Happy with that draw and it was one of the ones I said I wanted. I think that if Oxford get through, it will be a harder game than if Newcastle get through.

Hopefully it won't be picked for tv coverage.

We have Swansea away on the 7th (unless it gets moved) so I imagine that we will put out a similar side to the one that played at West Ham, which should be good enough to beat Newcastle or Oxford.

Match will be on the 4th/5th march. Inbetween wigan and swansea so will be a tough week. Use the squad again.

Would prefer to play Newcastle if I'm honest. Oxford has the ability to be a banana skin game.

First game I saw us lose was home to Newcastle in 5th round in 1974, 0-3. I was aged 7 and was devastated, and cried my eyes out, I didn’t realise that Albion could lose games, how wrong I was! 46000 there I think with about 20000 geordies at the game.

Bloody Malcolm MacDonald and John Tudor ripped us apart - dreadful game!

I remember that game very well. We were in the Second Division and going nowhere under Don Howe; they had Malcolm MacDonald scoring for fun.

It was on Match of the Day and they tore us to shreds, but didn’t turn up when they eventually lost to Liverpool in the Final.

You can see the highlights on YouTube https://youtu.be/rzwTC00ByAI If we think some of our defending is bad now, take a look at what we did that day! Wile and Robertson at the back too.
Just watched it on YouTube and you realise they had a pretty decent side - several players who went on to greater things.

Could have done with more of the big boys drawing each other. The potential Chelsea/Liverpool tie aside, they all avoided each other disappointingly.

Just hoping that as it's midweek the Geordies don't want the whole of the Smethwick. Fat chance  :( .

Midweek or weekend, the Geordies are probably the best supported team. They will have the whole Smethwick.

Anyone thought of the prospect of Dwight playing against us?😳

The irony of it all with him coming off the bench to score the winner in the 89th minute

Several running battles outside the Brummie/Woodman Corner in the 30 minutes after that game....I was 14 and petrified!! Never liked Newcastle since.

There was fighting all round the ground as I recall. Nonetheless, neanderthals aside, if Old Firm matches are excluded, it's arguably the best away support I've ever seen, up there with us at Oldham and Pompey and Liverpool at Wolves in 76.

Those were the first words I said to my son when the draw was made.
Only solace we have is that they have to beat Oxford first

Ha ha, no chance fella  ;D . A very good mate of mine from Smethwick actually called me that a couple of months ago on account of me living in Erdington for more years than I care to remember now. Not sure what the look on my face was like but he didn't say it again  :D .

Does anyone know if a definite date has been agreed for the tie and, if so, will it mean that our game with Swansea will switch to the Sunday?

The game will be confirmed Thursday or Friday.

Yes, those are the two conference dates for the game. I am more interested in knowing if the Swansea game will now be on Sunday.

When is the date confirmation for the game? Are they waiting for the outcome of the replays to see what games to televise?

I would think so.

We might be on if Oxford beat Newcastle.
Man Utd will definitely be on they always are. Liverpool/Shrewsbury v Chelsea will be on. Man City as cup holders will be on. I'm not sure how many other ties will be televised.

I think the opposite. If it's the geordies I reckon we'll be on, if it's Oxford then not. Oxford away we may have been on, but not at home.

more of a giant killing if we lost at home to Oxford than if we beat Newcastle.
