I am Welsh as are one or two others on here. I'll say nothing about the snigger talk/glad Iran won etc.

Wales have been a damp squib so far - not enough energy or positivity. Too much 'it's great to be at a world cup' type talk. Obviously Bale and Ramsey (and Allen) have been major figures for Wales in the past decade or so but none of them now play enough football or stay fit long enough to put in a 60 or 70 minute performance let alone a 90 minute one.

Maybe if it's 5-0 to England on Tuesday all the comments can go in the England thread so I don't have to bother looking  ;)

Wales definitely look like a squad at the end of their cycle. You also look like you are suffering from the same problem we have, coming in to the tournament just at the wrong time. It's not just Bale, Ramsey and Allen, it's players like Dan James, Tyler Roberts, Ben Woodburn and Rabbi Motondo not kicking on from their early promise.

Wales do have a good defence to build on going forward but apart from Brennan Johnson and Harry Wilson (who are both lower half prem at best at the moment), I'm not sure where Wales replacements are coming from. Maybe Lewis Koumas and Charlie Savage?

I'm thinking back to that World Cup when we went out against Iceland and the media were full of pictures of the Welsh Team cheering and sniggering in their dressing room.  Well I'm bigger than that ... no really!
I'm looking forward to us giving them the heave-ho when we line up against them

It was the Euros but I get what you mean.

By the time his career, if he can stay injury free  Mbappe is going to be up right up there with Klose (16) and Ronaldo (15).

7 World Cup goals already and every chance he has 5 games left to play before the end of his 2nd World Cup.

There will be compilation videos of most of the games this tournament to cure insomnia. So many borefests.

The standard so far has been really poor IMO. I know that international football is a step down from the Champions League and the Premier League but most of these teams would struggle in the Championship.

Where have all the strikers gone? There seem to be very few proper CF's around these days?

We should remember that group stages of major tournaments are very often a bit of a bore - it's nothing new. Teams playing safe, some players wary of picking up yellow cards etc.

I'm not sure I agree. Euro 2020 had plenty of entertaining matches in the group stage. WC 2018 only had one 0-0 throughout. We've already had 5 and we've not even finished the second round of games yet!

It's almost as if having it in the middle of the season doesn't help with the quality. Who knew?

I can’t imagine it will get any better in 2026 when there is 48 teams in the tournament.

Although it wouldnt benefit England as things are, but the first group decider should be head to head as well.

The format for 2026 is bizarre too. 16 groups of 3!

Spain (surely) will be too good for them. The Germans aren't what they were. Yet another team with no decent CF'S. As Bomber Brown says - you're only as good as your strikers and he's not far wrong. A front two of Haaland and Mbappe and that team wins any league in the world unless the other nine are not fit for purpose.

Bittersweet seeing how good Musiala is for Germany. Pleasing, because it shows what English football's youth pathways are increasingly capable of, depressing because his type of player doesn't come along very often. Losing both him and Greenwood in the space of 12 months is depressing .

Two games that not many would have been interested in! Watched the second half of the Ghana win, great stuff.

Now back to the borefest with Switzerland v Brazil.

Watching Brazil vs Switzerland and although they’ve just gone 1-0 down, I and can’t help think that this Swiss side has more chance of beating them than we would.

We would allow them the ball, allow them to play front of us and be unadventurous and inevitably get picked off. The Swiss side is showing they could be beat though if you take the game to them and have a bit of luck. They’ve got in plenty of good positions by being brave
