West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: The Booing's got to stop
« on: August 28, 2014, 03:23:48 PM »
Poor little dears, they get paid a pittance of £20k/£30k/£40k+ a week and yet everyone has to act like they're treading on eggshells around them for fear of their fragile temperaments being adversely affected.....

Should someone's boss be able to refer to them by derogatory names as long as they consider that they are paying said employee a fair wage?

Let's say £40k a year allows him to use the term "dickhead" whenever he refers to the employee and work down from there...  ::)

I think Berahino needs a big guy playing just behind him to act as a distraction for the opposition and to knock some balls onto him. From the little I have seen, he plays off the shoulder of a defender well and I reckon that would benefit him.

Samaras or Ideye would be ideal...even Anichebe if I'm up for a debate.  ::)

I start from point of view that I want my team to do well. Does booing them during a game and generally getting on players back help? No probably not. There's your answer.

In broader terms fans in general today seem to want perfection and they want it now. Frankly some of the utter drivel that is spouted on social networks is just plain embarrassing and this mentality is starting to be reflected in the grounds. People seem to be a lot less patient and generally keener to jump on player's backs. I think this is regrettable.

Top notch post; one of many in this thread.

Completely agree. Today's society is obsessed with instant gratification. No one seemingly possesses the stamina or patience to see something through.

Absolutely stonking goal.

The wife always used to speak highly of him.

Wish I'd been a fan when he was here!

Paddy Power tweeted: Villa were forced to pick a weakened team though because of the cup rule that only allows you to pick players from your own squad.

Legendary.

Not if you a few more beers mate ;)

I don't mind a nice real ale - hell, I love a nice real ale.

Combine West Brom with real ale and I'm all for that!

West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: Lack of leadership
« on: August 27, 2014, 05:07:40 PM »
I don't think we have afforded this bunch of players enough time to gel and to get used to the traits, abilities and attributes of one another. As has been said, leaders emerge, enforcers emerge, playmakers emerge. These will all come in time and we just need  to try and be patient...

It's not going to be easy for a few weeks, but I think the end product could be phenomenal if we are prepared to see it through.

I'm the type of fan who isn't going to be deterred by struggle and misfortune. I have a passion for this team and for the West Brom area. I haven't had a 'team' in recent years and this is the first time that I have really felt part of a community and a true culture.

I am not ignorant to the challenges that we face or so in denial that I would celebrate our every game. But I can't understand why people would be willing to show their dissent in such a vocal manner. Obviously, that's the prerogative of a fan and people should have the opportunity to show their frustration - but there is surely a more constructive way to do this? I would also consider that a better way to help a player address his poor form would be to rally him and let him know that a stadium packed full of 'his people' are right behind him...

Just an opinion.

Definitely Gamboa for me. He's our guy (whereas Wisdom is a loanee) and I think he has some cracking potential. His pace is excellent and, from a little bit of research, he's a very useful defender going forward with the ball and creating opportunities for his team.

Just what we need.

like i've said elsewhere every great  team that 's been at the top of english football ,liverpool in the seventies and eighties arsenal, spurs ,leeds and even further back the invincibles of preston have all had they're time of dominating  . but then they're runs come to an end . that's just what's happening at man utd not the managers or the players. does anybody really think that they're going to go on winning the league forever. what happened at liverpool in 1990 is now happening to man utd ,liverpool won the league nearlly every year and won european cups  but how many championships have they won since . it's just someone elses time to be the top team in england.

Yes...yes, it is...  ;)

Here we come!

After the mass love in with Pepe (don't mind admitting I was swept up in that) and all the words about what brilliant supporters Albion fans are. After the incredibly rousing Liquidator performances at the end of last season. After cheering a corner against West Ham as if we'd won the Cup. After all the ridiculous back slapping of ourselves for not being fickle like the Villa. After being so self congratulatory because we'd never abuse our players like the Wolves have with O'Hara et al. After being so pious because we're not plastic supporters like those at the so called big clubs. After all of that.

After all of that our fans boo our own players, boo at half time, boo at full time, boo at the end of extra time, boo at our players about to take penalties...pathetic. Pathetic excuses for supporters.

"I pay me money so I do as I please" you say. Well, I reserve the right then to jeer at you too if you're one of those who boos players of the club I love.

You have a completely different, perverted idea of being a supporter to me.

Remember what others have said, no player performs badly on purpose, none of them set out to fail, and certainly none of them hear you booing and think "blimey, that's good, maybe I should try harder".

It achieves nothing except to drive people into their shells. If you boo, and the team fails, you have been instrumental in that failure. Well done. You must be proud.

Pretty much my take on things and I fully support you.

There are some serious goals in our strikeforce, but they need to be played in the appropriate formation that  allows them to fully realise their skills and affords them the opportunity to complement one another.

Our best 11 still haven't played together in my opinion.

18
Zaha
Varela
Fellaini
Mata

Herrera
Shaw
Rojo
Di Maria

If those other four signings flop, that's a lot of wasted investment...

19
After the £59.7m signing of Angel di Maria, Manchester United have now spent £213.7m on eight transfers since the start of last year. So far none of the players has greatly excelled - four are yet to make their debut for the club - having combined to make only 35 starts in all competitions and score only seven goals in that time.

Really quite a negative approach, looking at the comments...

This should have been an advert for attacking football.

Maybe it's just time ticking by for the team to gel. I can be patient.
