West Bromwich Albion FC / The Towel….
« on: August 28, 2021, 10:32:33 PM »
My god why is there such a thing about this!? To be fair tonight Furlong could have been booked for time wasting the amount of time it took to get a hoody and take a throw but there is actually no law against any of what happened.

We didn’t even cause any issues from throws tonight.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Anyone worried yet?
« on: June 26, 2020, 09:30:19 PM »
4 games without scoring (hard to bring previous form into it)....

Other than Zohores shot we haven’t come close to scoring since returning....

Brentford are are clearly a better team than us after this extended break, beat Fulham then us without conceding....

Playoffs here we come on a poor run of form?

I’m so confident we won’t score I posted this even before Brentford game has finished

West Bromwich Albion FC / Foster on Pulis...
« on: May 01, 2020, 10:03:31 PM »
Pulis not fond of 'that Barca' football

Foster had a year at Birmingham, where he won the League Cup, before spending seven seasons at West Brom and playing under Tony Pulis. He recalls one particular ending to the 2016-17 campaign.

"It was the last game of the season. We were playing away at Swansea when they were in the Premier League and winning 1-0. They were a good team, slick. It was baking hot and we were not playing Tony Pulis football, it was lovely football.

"We get in half-time and he goes 'what are you doing?! What is that?' He holds up a picture of a pitch and draws a line from one 18-yard line all the way across to the other and scribbles out the middle of the pitch.

"He said 'forget that Barca stuff, get it in there and get round it'. Then we went and lost the game 2-1. It was incredible."

West Bromwich Albion FC / Birthday Phone Calls
« on: April 22, 2020, 09:49:25 AM »
Saw the players making phone calls/facetime and wishing people happy birthday on Facebook. Charlie Austin in his cowboy hat was a particular highlight.

Genuinely makes me proud to support a "family" club, honestly I wouldn't ever want us to be a Man Utd or Liverpool where you've gotten so big it doesn't feel like your team anymore, more of a global business. May sound mad but some things are more important than trophies in life. Saying that I would take 1 PL win or an FA cup in the next 30 years.

Opinion?

West Bromwich Albion FC / Team mentality / Defensive issues
« on: February 15, 2020, 02:41:58 PM »
In my opinion we are just too soft. Think back to recent times of GMac, Evan's, Jonas these lads (sometimes wrongly) would kick a few lumps here and there.

I think we're sort of back to the Mowbray times where we like nice footballers without the balance?

Sawyers in midfield will not close the ball down and doesnt bust a gut to win it back like Livermore does.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Final League Position?
« on: January 23, 2020, 10:09:06 AM »
Aware this could change vastly depending on a good performance or not but if you had to give 1 prediction on final league position what would you say?

After our abysmal run topped by Stoke I did a little lay on Betfair saying we wont finish top 6. £20 gets me £300 back. But surely that wont happen!?

Going for 5th.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Speed
« on: April 25, 2016, 08:44:25 PM »
This side has NO pace what so ever. Speed kills! Pretty much every semi successful side will prove this.

Surely someone who has some say in our players can see this?

West Bromwich Albion FC / 20th "best fans" in the country
« on: March 10, 2016, 10:05:32 AM »
There you go. "Best fans" table. I'd say ground capacity average table but each to their own.

We are 20th out of 92 English teams.

Remember him? For his good 2010 WC and 1 season at Sunderland.

About to become one of the top paid footballers in the world on 227k a week in China....

West Bromwich Albion FC / Worst team ever to stay up?
« on: May 07, 2014, 09:18:25 PM »
This squad we have surely has to be up there as one of the worst ever to stay up? 7 wins and literally a squad full of championship players and in Claudio Yacob and recently James Morrison's case even worse than championship quality!!

I don't take football anywhere near as seriously as I used to and literally laugh at how rubbish we are so I don't want a thread where people come in and start having a go at each other. We all support Albion, all want them to do as well as possible and everyone has different opinions which is good :).

So we're safe somehow?! Anyone got any theories how this side managed to not get relegated? It honestly looks like a lot of them put big money at start of season on us going down when we were big odds and have been trying desperately to lose lol.

Just while I'm ranting how on earth does Steven Reid get wages he's almost as bad as Abou Diaby (who stopped taking wages at Arsenal though).

Claudio Yacob lol he's so so so terrible at football it's hilarious watching him even attempting to do anything!

As the saying goes can't get any worse.... or can it haha! Another fun season ahead, always fun with the Albion! Who wants safe sensible Roy and mid table mediocrity anyway :P

West Bromwich Albion FC / Being an Albion fan is so frustrating....
« on: January 31, 2013, 09:50:50 AM »
Doesn't it just annoy you that teams like f'ing QPR sign Samba for £100k p/w + add ons yet we can't afford to do anything?! I'm not having a go at anyone in our club due to not wanting us to go bust etc but it's just so so annoying. We want to do well but we literally have a glass ceiling that we are never going to get past (and that is mid table Prem at best).

Mind you I suppose that is still better than scrapping around in the lower leagues. Surely we must be able to find some pennies down the sofa with the new TV money from next season?

Just having one of those days!

West Bromwich Albion FC / Pace and our defence...
« on: January 19, 2013, 09:53:50 PM »
Any play with a trick or any pace absolutely skins every single one of our defenders every time... Jones, Ridgewell, McAuley and Olsson....

It doesn't matter who and it is genuinely needs to be addressed asap by more defensive positioning training and drills or re-enforcement's. It has definitely been costing us points this 2nd half of the season. (Obviously Yacob and Mulumbu are a massive miss)

Don't want to start an argument but just wondered who everyone thought was over-rated and under-rated (in their opinion) by our own fans? I give my 100% backing to any Albion player who pulls on a shirt on game day, just thought it would make interesting discussion.

Under-rated

Odemwingie - Weird one I know but I feel people just expect too much of him sometimes. I don't live in an Albion area so get a more neutral view on things and everyone I know (they all support Arsenal etc) thinks he's class. Admittedly he can sulk sometimes but he is one of our best players and we def miss him when he isn't there.

Long - Again I feel people expect too much of him sometimes. We aren't a top 6 side with a 20+ goal striker in our team and I feel people expect this of him. The lad works his butt off week in week out, has amazing speed and a great leap and with a proper season behind him (hopefully this one) will get 10+ PL goals for us.

Over-rated

Mulumbu - Runs around a lot and breaks up play, yes! No doubt gives 100% every week. Love the guy. But every week he gives away silly fouls right near the edge of the box which could obviously lead to a goal. Also very regularly gives the ball away when doing some sort of twisty motion surrounded by 3 of the opposition leading to a break/good chance for them.

That's just my general sort of feeling at the moment. Love Mulumbu would never slate him and he is by far good enough for us.

As I said football is all about opinions, and in your head your opinion is right so anyone else got any to add? As I say I live in a neutral area so my views/opinions may well be diff to those who are nearer the Albion etc...

West Bromwich Albion FC / Just thought I would remind you all....
« on: August 25, 2012, 10:12:33 AM »
We are the best club in the West Midlands.

Highest finish last year, we have the best squad (on paper) of any of the WM clubs and after 1 game we performed better than any other WM clubs.

Saturday morning positivity is all you need. Feel free to add any more reasons.

That is all ;D

General Football & Sports / If Hibbert scores we riot....

Anyone see the man himself score in his testimonial? The Everton fans sort of kept their promise (not sure pitch invasion counts as rioting lol). Good stuff!

West Bromwich Albion FC / Defensive Errors...
« on: March 20, 2012, 02:14:24 PM »
WBA & Swansea have a Premier League low of 5 "defensive errors" this season. Arsenal have the most with 22 and Stoke are 2nd on 15.

Source: Opta

Don't know what counts as a defensive error but just thought I'd share some more stats

West Bromwich Albion FC / Would you bring in a past manager?
« on: December 10, 2011, 05:10:21 PM »
Well I would!!! (feel free to shoot me down)

I've had a theory following on from my WBA + Defending thread that Swansea have kept 7 clean sheets mainly due to having the ball/possession so much the opposition don't!

The theory is with this group of players that are better than our previous relegation there is a certain Mr Mowbray who is building his reputation back up by doing well with Boro who I believe would fit in again here. This is all fantasy obviously but we didn't go down by much when he was here we still can't keep clean sheets and we have better passers/attackers now so why not?

West Bromwich Albion FC / West Bromwich Albion + Defending = ....
« on: December 10, 2011, 05:05:37 PM »
Answer that equation. Swansea a newly promoted team have kept 7 clean sheets already in the Premier League this season... We have managed 3/4?? since the beginning of last....

Are the players not good enough? (possibly) Do our coaches have any idea how to train/coach on how to defend? Answers on a post card please...

West Bromwich Albion FC / IF we stay up.....
« on: December 08, 2011, 01:51:09 PM »
Disclaimer: This is not a Jeremy Peace dislike/love in post

Just a question for you to think about/anyone who may even have slight knowledge but IF we manage to stay up whatever positon then this will be our 1st and Mr Peace's 1st 3 season stay in the big league. Now as we've never done it then I guess we won't know but surely that would give us some/quite abit/a lot? of cash to spend on new players? Or am I completely wrong here?

I was just daydreaming at work and wondered wouldn't it be amazing if it did allow us too

21
Taken from Football365 who do a weekly stat feature these were our 3 this week, make of it what you will....

Quote
West Brom
* West Brom have dropped eight points from winning positions this season.
 * Gareth McAuley has won more aerial duels per game (4.9) than any other PL player in this campaign.
 * Only Manchester City and Arsenal play fewer long balls per game than West Brom.

West Bromwich Albion FC / How many clean sheets this season?
« on: August 22, 2011, 11:18:26 AM »
Just wondered how many you all feel we will keep this season. In my opinion from the 1st 2 games we look a lot better defensively (Man Utd had 1 shot on target) and although there are still mistakes to cut out it's more positive.

I'm going for 5

West Bromwich Albion FC / Entertaining... or frustrating?

WBA - No score draw: 66

That's what we're at since our last 0-0.
