West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: Steve Clarke Sacked by Albion
« on: November 06, 2012, 06:10:54 PM »
Steve Clarke is managing Longs Hamstring problems. Hence the substitutions and his current no involvement with Ireland.

Great manager so far. Has inherited a solid foundation from which to work with though.

For liverpool today 16 year old striker ... stolen from our academy? Not sure how the system works but surely we would have players tied down to contracts of some sort?

Utterly astounded. Steve clark factor. Literally unreal signing.

Get a replacement and i agree his value can only go down from here on in due to his age and his attitude as been bad since the beginning of last season.
When you play as selfish as he did last year your doing yourself no favours.

This is key. We could have scored maybe 3-5 goals more if he hadnt been so blindingly selfish in games last year.

Don't know about anyone else but I got sick and tired of this last summer when we had the same palava about him going here, there and everywhere.

If the money's right, get rid.

I agree with this. Personally think at 31 we have seen his best years. Cash in reduce the wages and sign someone else.
Also hodgson came out and moaned about odemwingie last year with his numerous 'injuries' so he is a bit of a whiner by the sounds of it.
Dont get me wrong he is a good player but for me high maintenance and at the only realistic age we could get a decent fee for him.

Are we still in the dark over all of this? Probably the most exciting aspect of the clubs development. I hope this does not get shelved for extra transfer money. Wasn't construction supposed to have started by now or have I got this wrong?

Great statement of intent. Hold my hands up i thought we would lose him! Sets a great tone for the rest of the summer!

What frustrated me was that all day yesterday in the build up to the game you could here on the radio or read in the papers ex players/pundits saying the dangerman was Pirlo and how we needed to stop him.

Hodgson, the tactical genius, obviously didnt think so.

Except he had Rooney man mark him? (you could hear Joe hart telling him exactly where Pirlo was if he lost him) Most of the game he was kept quiet. Italy did not score a single goal so I don't see how you could say the tactics were wrong..?

Pirlo in essence did nothing, they didn't score and you can hardly say he contributed to their defense. We cant exactly man mark him from a penalty.

Why waste the extra money with no other interested parties. That 1.25 million could be used to bump up olssons contract...

Have some faith/ Don't start a career in poker.

I like many others used to think JP was holding us back. Now he has won me over and i actually think he is the best chairman we have ever had.Would anyone else care to name a better Albion chairman who has achieved so much in so short a time?
We have gone from being the joke of The Wolf radio station,to the Midlands No1 club, with a healthy bank account,a good playing squad, managers of the calibre of RDM,Hodgson and Clarke,a good scouting system and blossoming academy which is paying dividends already.

Perhaps if we had thrown money at it like Jack hawyward did down the road we would be better off?  ;)

The time for us to worry,is not if certain players or coaches leave,we can and have replaced them all,but when we get an owner like the Glazers,Lerner,Madaric or some anonymous Chines businessmen.

Count your blessings this club is being run by an Albion fan.

Even if he does get my back up every now and then.  :D

I'd have to say best in the league, no other club is run so well with such little capital to start with. Can anybody name a club that has no debt (or is not being bankrolled by a rich chairman) that is better off in terms of league standing, facilities and playing squad.

It can be annoying that we don't go and splash the cash as fans, over the years I have never really seen the benefit until last season. It was pretty hard to ignore the dingles bleeting on about the £7 million pound signing of roger johnson, and us signing Gareth Mcauley on a free... but look how that turned out.

This year will be the same, we wont sign Foster, people will kick off and moan (including me) and we'll probably go and find a keeper on the cheap from somewhere who does the job almost as well. Meanwhile having money to spend on other areas of the squad or stadium expansion.

Foster is out of our price range. Otherwise we would have bought him or agreed a fee last year. We simply saw the opportunity to get a class keeper for a year for free and took it. I really wouldn't get any hopes up of signing him... I hope i am proved wrong though.

Theres only one big dave! Great signing the guy is not only a great example to our youngsters as a footballer, but also as a human being. Chuffed for him.

Foster will keep us up on is own he's that good , sign him up ASAP !!

Couldn't do it at the blues... I really want us to sign foster but at the end of the day you know we wont be signing him. Too expensive. We'll go for a decent free replacement like green or gordan or pig ect.
Just the way the albion work and i guess if you accept that its not as dissapointing. We all know olsson is going as well. You have to look forward to the next Mcauley.
We are a superbly run club and have the ability to sign some real gems.

It could turn out to be a great signing. BUT the simple fact is that it is probably the most risky.

Yes he worked at Chelsea under Jose... just like the new liverpool manager.

Yes he is highly rated as a coach.

But has there every been any manager appointed to a top ten premier league club as their first post that has succeeded?

I really do hope it is not Clarke, but if it is then I will back him to the hilt like any other manager. It still does not stop the (hopefully) short term disappointment.

Joke of a signing IF TRUE. I am still holding out for us actually appointing a manager. I still hope and believe it will be Ralf.

I can fully understand people wanting there season ticket money back, I simply cannot see our players staying and us signing Foster under Clarke.

HOWEVER - You have to look at the track record of our signings, the board always seem to make the right decision with the manager, they know more than us as fans about the footballing profession.

Isn't RR seen as a top notch coach? Wouldn't need Clarke as part of the set up.

What i meant is that if we are considering him it will surely be for a lesser role than manager.

After just establishing ourselves in the premier league finishing tenth there is absolutly no way the jeremy peace we know would throw away (at best make a massive gamble) all that hard work by appointing a guy who has never managed, let alone managed in a top league. Will be ralfs number two if anything.

Hi there folks! First post for me on here! I just wanted to say that if and when Steve Clarke is appointed then I think we should assume that he is hungry for the job and has interviewed well. He has worked with some top players so it shouldn't be assumed that he'll put off potential big signings. He will need our full support.

This is surely a wind up? I trust peace, but i think this would be pushing it a little too far.

Top of the range Mercedes with number plate RR1 spotted at the Hawthorns. Suitcases scattered across the back seat. Birmingham mail opened to the property section in the passenger seat.

 :P

funny you should say that...  :o

I think the panic  is worse than usual because the club have finally made some progress in the PL and this appointment is key to both our progress and keeping our best players at the club. In addition to trying to sign Foster.

By the application of common sense.  More to the point why do you think he has accepted?

Because the only reports confirming our new manager have been from Germany and regarding Ralf.

Because the club are always shockingly late when announcing done deals, probably to avoid any last minute poaching (in other words they will wait before all the paperwork is done unlike Villa with Lambert.)

Because I really want it to happen, ;) and have had my hopes raised and refuse out of stubborn-ness to accept any other candidate who would be a massive let down to have our job, until I hear that Ralf has officially REFUSED the job.  ;D

I would have been happy with Hughton before but now i have got excited about Rangnick.

My only concern about Rangnick would be is that if he takes this long to decide, taking it for granted it's his decision we are waiting on,it might not be,then how long would he be likely to stay as our manager.

We have to think about long term not someone for a season.

I agree with this, except part of me thinks well even if it is for a season if we kick on and progress as well as this season then we are in a stronger position to recruit a better manager for the long term. If hodgson has not come in for the one season (ok and a half) then I doubt we would be talking about Rangnick now as a possibility.

If Ralf comes in and takes us a stage further then who knows who we may attract next season or the season after especially with the stadium expansion completion. This really is a massive chance for the club to move up to the next level. Leave behind the clubs similar to us like and make our way towards the likes of Villa, Everton, Sunderland ect.

Out of interest who would you have in an ideal world? AVB or Rangnick?

Now i'd rather have Ralf by a million miles, if RDM can manage a club better than him then what good will he do here??

The club is open for business over the bank holidays... so I would hope we see a decision officially ASAP! I will be absolutely over the moon if its Ralf.
