I dont think there can be any negativity over a signing such as Lescott.. He will improve us vastly and still has many years left in him

Fingers crossed

As I've mentioned elsewhere - classless of WBA to leak this on morning of Irvine presser. Trying to deflect away from disastrous appt.

Laughing! Looks like JP may have something up his sleeve don't you think?

Quick find some tenuous links to anyone good that Irvine might have met once in a corridor! Lukaku last season?!

Actually didn't Lescott leave in 2009, when the hell would he have met Irvine?

Really solid signing if it were to come off. Yes perhaps not at his absolute peak but then we'd have no chance if he was. I think he'd be the pick of our centre backs.

I must be honest, I don't really care whether he met him or not, the fact that we're apparently in the driving seat for him has made me laugh.

He is a genuine quality player to me, with an excellent pedigree and a few years in him yet.

Brilliant if it happens.

Lescott has never actually worked with Irvine. Good to see the Express & Star have done their homework!

Not sure if I think it would be good or bad!

Im leaning towards bad...is he injury prone! Have another player on high wages not playing!

I have no doubt this is a PR stunt from the club, and he'll run out alongside Curtis Davies at the KC next year.

It's the Express and Star, I'm not sure why they'd add that positive lie and not go for the title 'Sandwell Town set to be snubbed by die hard Wolves super
Legend.'

And for those claiming this is a bad signing pray tell who you would buy instead.

I think Lescott may have worked with Irvine around 2006/07 at Everton, forgot Irvine was there previous to his managerial role at Preston.

Can't help but think of Peace and Burton as Mr. Burns and Smithers right now:

Mr. Burns (sorry, Peace) lifting blinds to window.....

"Mmmmm it's getting ugly out there. Quick Smithers, throw them a tasty morsel!!! That should keep them at bay...."

He must have been so bad at Everton they brought him back - to abuse him?

Seems the 'Alan Irvine' connection has legs. And my god if we hijack a deal that'll be a first.

If we signed Lescott I will be literally over the moon. He's better than any defender we have at the moment by a country mile. Anyone finding a negative with the prospect of a signing of this calibre of player can seriously do one.

Lescott is a player I’ve admired from afar for a long time.  I remember a game at the Hawthorns against Everton when he was absolutely superb, one of the best displays by a centre half I have seen, and I have always made a conscious effort to keep my eye out on his performances since.  Would be a great addition, I follow a couple Manchester City bloggers on twitter and for much of last season they were calling for him to get more starts, he really is highly regarded by the City faithful.  Hope it comes off.

Wasn't Irvine at Everton from 2002 until he went to Preston in 2007? Meaning he worked with Lescott 2006-2007?

Quality signing but the big question  is who does he replace? And surely this means the end for Dawson!

I would say he is a replacement for Lugano.

Would be a really great start to the transfer window if we pulled this off. We desperately need some quality in the back 4, this guy was bought for over £20 million for City.

Wonder if this would mean Olsson leaving? Both of them are left sided centre backs. He can also play LB but i'd hope us signing him doesn't mean we will only be in the market for one LB.
