Peltier signed up for the season.

Thought he would be. If we thought we needed him as cover in January, given we are a very similar squad now then it stands to reason you'd still think you need some cover. Incumbent is likely cheap, so if hes happy and settled in the group why wouldn't they keep him on board.

Peltier signed up for the season.

Low cost, 3rd choice RB cover with a bit of Pl experience. Could be worse.

Peltier signed up for the season.

Makes total sense, didn’t play in the championship so keep him on for the prem....What a ridiculous decision. What’s the point?

I watched the PSG match last night against Lens. They lost one nil and had about 8 first teamers out with the ‘virus’, a large squad is going to be required so a signing like peltier could end up being a shrewd move as he can cover to a certain level several positions.

Predicted it. A typical signing. Waste of money.

Stacked 3 deep in defence but not a PL striker to be found.

Can he play left back?

As Boinging along reported in the general rumours thread we have resigned him on a 1 year deal.

I would imagine he has been signed as cover for the full back positions.

As it stands Gibbs will be playing this season for us, if he gets injured  then we only have Townsend at left back, i imagine O'Shea or Furlong will then move over to left back for certain games and Peltier then covers the right back slot behind O'Shea or Furlong (whichever isnt over at left back)

It does seem we are being creative and maybe funds that were going to be used for a left back will now go for other positions, if Gibbs does get sold then we use those funds for another left back.

I can see the sense in signing Peltier based on our present financial circumstances and position priorities, however i doubt he will play that often but probably low (ish) wages and can do a job.

Same reason i would imagine for the Ivanovic signing, free transfer, he is probably better than Bartley and Hegazi and on lower wages too (certainly lower than Hegazi) and we may get some sort of fee for them which again then gets used on other areas of the pitch.

Its not perfect but its where we are at, its been reported we are going to be creative and looks that way, if we add another couple of midfielders (examples - Krov and / or Gallagher or 1 x other) and an attacker (Grant) then hopefully be an exciting season.

It looks like with the left back position and also another striker (as well as Grant) will depend on us shifting big earners such as Gibbs, Austin / HRK first which is fair enough.

TBF mate we ain't going to get much for Gibbs, 31 in 2 weeks with less than 1 year left. Who they have lined up to replace him if that happens god knows with a million or so quid to spend.

Just need to pray Gibbs stays fit most the season.

I think its more the wages with Gibbs the reason they want to shift him on, thats probably why there is no rush to sign him, sure i read he is our highest paid player.

Another pathetic signing no matter how you dress it up. Does the player himself have any real desire to play or just happy to take the wage?

Odd question to pose on here.   It's not like he's had a glorious career and this is a step down or one last pay day. This is his last opportunity to play at the top level and he's managed to get earn himself a PL contract, so you would expect that he has got himself into pretty good shape over lock down and into pre-season.   It's likely that he will end up the same as Mears (who didn't really let the team down when he was called on) but he may also end up playing more than we think and taking on the holding full back role allowing Gibbs to get forward.  A lot depends on the role that Billic see's for O'Shea and how well he adapts to the top division.

If we were in and ideal world and in an ideal situation, Peltier wouldn't be ideal, but we aren't

The reality is we arent going to get premier league players in their prime as a newly promoted club, we have a lot of younger players who have been good at a lower level who now have the chance to step up and prove over the next few years they can be established premier league players (johnstone, furlong, o’Shea, kipre, ajayi, pereira, diangana, edwards, possibly gallagher, grant and krov if we get them)

The reality is some of those just wont be good enough, some will, by getting some premier league know how in to help then it gives them a better chance, ideally they step up and in couple of seasons they have become our established premier league players who are coming into their prime, we let the older heads go, introduce younger players who then play with our then established players such as the crop mentioned above.

3rd choice rb, lb and 5th choice cb, the club clearly don't think we have a youngster they'd trust to fill that role so Peltier being about the place for that is fine. Likely to never play a part in PL, doesn't particularly bother me.

The forgotten man surely this means that Bartley or Hegazi are on their way out  especially if Ivanovic arrives?

Unless he's turned into Roberto Carlos over the pre season then I can't see him playing. He couldn't get near our bench last season. He's 33 and only played 1 season in the Prem. My point was money aside why would anyone be happy to play a handful of games at most as opposed to regular starts elsewhere.

I'm not sure it's that they don't trust the youngsters more that Peltier has played in the Pl 22 times for a team that was at the bottom end, so has more experience of where we will spend a lot if not all of the coming season.

What is going on? Peltier comes in the category Mears. I trust we're not talking big bucks
for extending his contract, but we're not rolling in money. Every little bit helps, to coin a phrase.

This is crazy...
- no ambition by the player
- no ambition from the club
- tieing up wages on a player than didn't get in the squad for us last year
