General Football & Sports / Re: FA Cup
« on: Yesterday at 05:01:48 PM »
ALL FA cup replays will be scrapped from the start of next season.

Lower league clubs are the ones to suffer, they go to the big boys, get a draw and the money a replay brings in keeps them going but now that stops and the big boys who have the larger squads and play reserve sides anyhow get their own way.

If it's a football thing then it has got worse I have been on this site since 2016 and without a doubt considering we have the best manager in a long time and look to be making the playoffs the level of moaning imo is ridiculous under the likes of Bruce understandable this season inexcusable.

It has got worse, its always been there though. More and more people using social media, more avenues to moan.

Also, with the site not being as busy as it was back in the day posts are more noticeable these days whereas before many slipped through unnoticed

It used to be a villa and wolves thing and we held ourselves to a better standard. Not any more, sadly.

No, its a football thing, always has been, always will be. Some Man Utd fans used to criticise Fergie for example.

At one time it was reserved for the pubs and letters to the Sports Argus type papers, now with social media its more noticeable.

We have always had sections who have grumbles about things.

I wonder if Leeds, Leicester and Ipswich  are  mullering their manager's for losing these past few weeks  they have been so bad it looks like they don't want promotion.
This is a tough league how dare CC lose  a game after 10 undefeated having 10 men is no excuse.

Leicester fans have been slating Maresca all season even when they were running away with it so all those slating Albion fans saying no other clubs fans slate managers etc etc etc, they do. Its not an Albion thing, its a football fan thing.

No we're not. Five wins, five draws, and no defeats in the last 10 matches suggests the opposite does it not? Admittedly we haven't always sparkled in a few of these matches but we have got the job done. I haven't actually checked but I suspect there are very few teams in the division who have a better record over the last 10 games.

Last 10 games we're 4th behind Ipswich, Leeds and Norwich.

Last 6 3rd behind Norwich and Bristol City

Last 5 joint 5th behind Ipswich, Preston, Bristol City, Norwich with Middlesbrough

Purely down to the drawn games

Working with an experienced striker in the mould of Kevin Phillips/ Bob Taylor for example would do wonders for him.

For the price paid he's done a cracking job.

Agree. I would compare this signing with the likes of Yassine El Ghannasy who also didn't play for us. He was a speculative kid who for whatever reason failed with us. Context is key here. Not every loan signing will succeed or fail. It doesn't mean our scouting department are terrible or incredible either.

El Ghannasy had played almost 100 senior games when he came here and twice for his country.

Theres no hate or aggression towards Marshall certainly not from me, its a signing I couldn't understand at the time and still don't. I hope he does go on to have a great career but feel a league one side next season would be the option not a Championship club looking for promotion.

I think the point is we entered January without a budget and cut our cloth accordingly. We’ve done incredibly well overall with recruitment in that window.

It was a signing we didn't need and hopefully cost us very little

I hope Marshall doesn’t turn out to be another Gnabry who hardly had a kick with us but who is now starring for Bayern Munich

He made a handful of appearances for Arsenal who were more than happy to let him go. The problem with Gnabry was Gnabry not Pulis or Wenger. Once he got shown the door by them something seemed to click in his head and he started knuckling down.

Theres a topic in the general sports forum that is already discussing other Championship games, can you use that one please to avoid duplicate posts.

Same recruitment department that signed Mickey Johnston, the stand out signing made by any championship club in January. Both freebies, one has turned out to be sensational business.

One with international appearances, over 50 games for Celtic inc a couple in the Champions League not to mention a loan in Portugal and one with no more than 10 minutes in the 1st team.

You cannot compare the two, one has the experience to come straight in, the other is a level above where he needs to be for his progression.

Clubs do not send out their contracted players to randomly train with other teams. Not sure that would even be allowed given players have to be registered. Sometimes moves just do not work out. No big deal for me, as it was a wildcard from the start.

I know they don't, you mentioned him not being upto it in training, proper scouting would have seen that so if he can't train with us then did we actually watch him at all?

You say no big deal, it is as its been a waste of time for both player and both clubs.

Prior to joining us he had 10 minutes as a sub in the FA Cup against Bristol City, thats the extent of his first team involvement at West Ham other than 3/4 unused sub appearances.

It was a strange signing from the perspective of both clubs so no surprise it hasn't worked.

I am wondering how the scouting and recruitment teams at both clubs decided it was a good idea for him to jump from reserve football to Championship football. A move to League One would have been a better option.

If it was to be looked at in training then surely a week training with us before any commitment would be a better idea.

Any news about how long we will have to do without him? Sorely missed him yesterday I feel.

Saw a story on the Birmingham Mail site he's hopefully in contention for Saturday
