West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: The demise of West Bromwich Albion fc
« on: September 01, 2023, 04:43:54 PM »
Apologies for my share in the gloomy outlook.

We've not had much joy in the last seven years though have we?

That said.... so far this season Carlos Corberan's Blue and White Army have done pretty well in ridiculous circumstances. I guess we should all be concentrating on that.

Yes so far so good so here comes the 0-1 defeat to Huddersfield and meltdown after a shocking transfer window

Think he deserves credit for correctly identifying Livermore, Grant, Button, Rogic and Zohore as players who were not going to be of much use in the future.
And there will be another half a dozen in CCs list he just hopes will be moved on by the deadline  - he must be concerned with what might come in though, if anything at all

And didn’t peace put the club in safe hands and recommend we appoint Williams?

Lots of defeatist posts tonight?
Can’t we be positive about our team and cheer them on to hopefully a great performance and a win?
Silly Billy thinks we’re going to get hammered. It’s not as though we were going to play Man City or Arsenal for goodness sake.
Silly billy? They not doing anything to make me sound silly so far. Back 🙄5 worst for years.

Watford v West Bromwich Albion

Monday 20th February 2023 20.00pm

Please use this board for all your Pre Match Chat. Opposition fans are reminded to abide by the site rules
Our defence won’t cope tonight - far too weak.

Saturday we play another team with very good attacking players and I think , like tonight, we will be soundly beaten.

CC will hopefully start from the back in the summer.

Throwing points away because we haven't got a decent keeper.
Said it time and again our defence is just not good enough - better teams will punish us.
Palmer loss and will keep us out of the top six.
Compared to this time last year though I think we are looking up rather than down - CC needs to clear out and start to rebuild in the summer, next season we need the target the play offs minimum.

Oh dear , I really do fear the worst tonight with Button in goal . Guess we will probably need to score a minimum of 3 goals to get a result .
Our back 4 is not good enough / a decent keeper behind them bred confidence - it could go the other way. With a clown in goals I fear we will see furlong oshea and Townsend of early season
Oh my days I’m so gutted

Second goal and still no challenge on the player... Unmarked again.
With that back 4 we will always struggle and always concede

I’m seeing players on the whole who can’t adapt to CC’s tactics or application.

It’s funny as it does look like a side just doing what they want, VERY Bruce like.
Funny CC and big San dropped one particular player when more discipline was needed - that player starts today and …….

Getting a bit ahead of myself, but if anyone underestimated how tough the top 6 is.....

If we win on Saturday, it is still quite likely we will be 12 points from the play offs. So three wins in a row will have seen us cut the gap from 14 to 12 points (although we will have a game in hand on most since most clubs play the fixtures cancelled around the queens death this week - the reason we don't is because Cov have other games to make up).

If we lose, the gap may well have increased to 15 points (but with a game in hand).

I think the difference between entering the WC break with a win vs a loss massive. Lose and the play offs is definitely over. Win and it is still extremely unlikely but there would be some hope. It is only 3 points, but momentum and confidence needs to be built.  We can't afford to stutter at this point.

One thing we should all know is it’s never over with this many points still to play for in this league.

If we were to start picking up 8-10 points out of 12 we will creep up and have a decent finish and most likely be knocking on the door, get some momentum and who knows (ie 3 or 4 wins in a row)
Bham are 10th, 8 pts in front and we have 2 games in hand.I think we target 10th place by then end of Jan, work hard to consolidate and push for a strong finish.

We are not out of anything by a long stretch.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: Kyle Bartley
« on: November 11, 2022, 07:01:37 AM »
I think Mr Brown needs some glasses. Bartley hardly put a foot wrong in the game. The only mistake I can recall was when Bartley played a ball out to Furlong who was caught out of position and not facing the ball which gave QPR a chance at goal (definitely more Furlong's fault that Bartley's).
I wasn't at the game but have watched the whole game replay on the O/S.

All the player ratings I've seen have Bartley as the highest rated of our players.

Agree with you that Bartley should go once his contract is up.

Kyle has done a decent job last couple of games - but he is paid decently to do it and the position we are in we should expect it of him. Just shows, as with Allardyce, managers who coach him and play to his strengths will get better from him than those who can’t / won’t coach.

He will, no doubt, cost us again soon 1 that we can guarantee.

He should go once his contract is up, we should expect good performances and him to help drive our team on.

We then say thank you and move on.

Hopefully the idiots that currently run our club do this and not offer an extension as they have done on players in the past, who boost performance levels during the last months of their contracts in the hope of an extension - knowing the clowns fall for it every time.

He isn’t good enough.

Fair play to him, he’s responded well. Keep it up Kyle!
Yes keep it up - calamity Kyle isn’t far away so let’s enjoy these performances before he costs us points again
He owes us big time
Good riddance in the summer

I agree he needs time but I would also say that the set-up and team selection today was the worst this season, as was the performance. Worse than anything Bruce delivered and worse than the caretaking staff.
He has seen what he has to deal with - he had to start with something.

Let’s judge him at Christmas when he has had a mini pre season - some of these players are poison and Mick McCarthy commented that some have been here too long.

Didn’t expect any thing different today. I thought we might get a little lift with the players out to impress the new boss but perhaps they are either so used to giving up or just not up to it. We all see what a massive job he has to turn this. I think we would have to accept survival by the skin of our teeth and then start again. It’s just such a big job for CC. I would hope he knows that though.
Not totally suprised with this bunch. 1990/91 season all over again, no leaders and the worst set of defenders i have seen for a long time.
I think as some of them have played in the Prem they actually believe they are premier league players; Relegation staring us in the face; these lot must think they will be ok and pull clear.

Not exactly an inspiring selection I wonder how much influence the 'old hands' have had?
He’s having to start with something - hopefully won’t take him long to see the rotten eggs and banish them
4-0 Albion 👊🏼

I worry about his liking to play it out from the back and insist they stick to it.  We simply don't have the defenders\keeper to do that.  Our defence make passing the football look like the world's most difficult thing.  A lot of the time we put ourselves under pressure at the back because we fail to hit a simple square ball with the right pace, let alone doing it under an actual press.
Hopefully he has seen our defenders and the lack of ability both on the ball and trying to defend it.
If he can somehow instill some basic defending and positional
Play and get them to make it hard for teams it might improve us /

But playing out from the back? God help us

« on: October 24, 2022, 09:09:14 AM »
Take Furlong out of that and it was a pretty point-blank situation where Palmer just spread himself as best he could... including covering the low shot between the legs. Sorry, we get plenty of material to criticise our players on but criticising a keeper when it takes that big a deflection at that close range is just not fair criticism.
Taking furlong out is what is best full stop ; add calamity Kyle and we may have a chance
The worst group of defenders (inc gks) I have seen since out last relegation to league 1 (div 3)

Get us to mid table this season, grim typing that. Sort the back room and board out and develop a proper scouting system ready for the summer.
First sentance possible.
Rest no hope at all.

He seemed to be great when we won at Reading.

It was a new dawn and the shackles were off because it was Bruce all along dragging us down.

Take a look at the post match thread for Reading.

Two games later….

Yes and some said govt him the job  ;)
I said then when we lose to Bristol city it would change and boy it has

I seen enough of the last team that went down and remember listening to our new signing Winston White telling us on Radio WM that in no shadow of a doubt would we go down. We did. And we were poor.

I tell you now this side is much worse than that one

We will be cut adrift by the World Cup

There won’t be a way back either as league 1 will eat us up for dinner

Totally lost direction with this owner / the ceo is a total disgrace

I'm happy with the team he has picked, the back four with Townsend out and Bartley back with Pieters are left back is much stronger IMV. Also good to see he is sticking with TGH in central midfield and is playing our other best central midfielder alongside him. Okay has struggled but is obviously a better footballer than Molumby or Livermore. Reach starts presumably left midfield - I would imagine the plan is to replace him with Grady at some point as neither of them could go 90 minutes, Reach not been playing and Grady tired legs from midweek. Big game for Swift and Grant - both struggled, opportunity for them.
I’d guess 3-5-2
Back three is league 1 level, our wing backs are league 1 as well
Good prep next season I guess

West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: Squad or manager? Or both?
« on: October 19, 2022, 05:41:45 PM »
There are problems with both and there is absolutely loads of issues, most of which have existed in the last two seasons at least.

- Furlong and Townsend are terrible.
- No proper centre forward
- Too much emphasis down the wings (baffling consider the above points)
- Often using tactics that bypass midfield, which is actually ok talent wise in my opinion
- Extending contracts of players like Phillips and Bartley
- Allowing Kipre out on loan (I think Taylor was the right decision)
- Persisting with Button
- The defense hasnt got a clue.

There are more but its a mixture of player and tactical issues.

Yes Ipswich town or Charlton is what we will be - few seasons of league 1 - never seen the ground empty so much before the end as last night / strangely there was no anger - I sensed a realism of a fact that we are in big trouble and this is only the start.
Incompetent recruitment not only with players - this owner has ruined our club and we are destined for league 1

Are we in any danger of points deductions if we do go down given the wages and contracts given?

I am trying to think going down would be a total reset and we go again - but that’s not the case as this has been coming for 3 or 4 years and the downward spiral will continue with who is running this club

West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: Martin Kelly
« on: October 17, 2022, 06:27:44 PM »
My only doubt is that I'm not sure if he can pick a pass. Seemed content to push it sideways to Pieters or Townsend every time.
Bartley can’t do either so I’m pleased Kelly can get us back to basics and stop us conceding and become more organized at the back - our defence, prior to Kelly and pieters was the worst we have had for over 20 years - more clean sheets would be a great starting point

Leave Beale in charge and see how he gets on for a while.
Yes then we lose 2-1 to Bristol City and he won’t be the answer

Leave him inc whilst they choose the right man.

God knows who that will be with this clown In charge

Beale says grady and BTA are fit after their "knocks".  Furlong is also fit, just has not been selected for last few squads.
Furlong being fit will be a great boost to Reading.

Think we’ll be in big trouble if we’re in the Championship with those on the wage bill. Swift/Wallace/Yokuslu will be on 20k+ and parachute payments ending means we won’t cover all of those. Dike under contract, Phillips, Bartley, Grant.

We pay v well for a club at this level but no way we can afford it after this season outside of the PL.
Very much doubt the clowns have ever considered we might end up in League 1 when giving these contracts out.
Imagine a points deduction to start league 1 with - I can 100% see that coming at some point given the way the club is being run.
