They've also signed Josh Cullen from West Ham who played for them last season (23 yr old - plays mostly CM and DM) and Conor Gallagher from Chelsea (19 yr old - plays mostly CM and DM) on loan. Sam's got competition.
It doesn't matter how many resources you have.
If you don't know how to use them, they will never be enough.

A good move for him one that should have happened a year or two ago. Still not convinced he'll make it with us though.

I don't think it's make or break for his career, it's make or break for his career at West Brom.

...that's what I said.

Make or break for his career here  :-X

Hopefully, Bowyer will instill a little bit more physical and mental toughness to his game
I'm not so sure he's lacking in these anyway. Games is what he needs. He'll also be getting life experience moving away from home and into a club where he won't know anyone, except Leko.

Good luck to him - he needs a season away - this should have happened before now.

I don't think we will see him kick a ball for us again. Hopefully he goes and impresses on loan but don't see him fitting to a Bilic team.

I hope this makes him. He's been caught between a rock and a hard place the last couple of years; too good for the U23's, not quite ready for the first team, but successive managers have kept him on because they can see something in him.

Hopefully a few months of regular football is the making of him.

Interesting to see his progress now. My bet is he has a great season and proves quite a few managers (and fans) wrong.

He has the talent, he jist needs to learn his role in midfield. He really needs to add some defensive work to his overall game if he is going to be a deep lying midfielder though.

Absolutely correct, should have gone the season we got relegated after signing Barry and Krychowiak. Good luck to him, hope he is great.

I did see Field as the first alternate for the ball-winner in midfield, behind Livermore. Apart from Ajayi stepping in there, I see that as a hole in our squad unless Harper will be playing there. His talents seem to be further up the field however from what I have seen.

Its a good move for him, playing and learning under a player who knows the central midfield role through and through. He goes away, does well and comes back next Summer a better player ready to step in when Livermore moves on. Leaves us without anyone who can fill in for Livermore so I would expect Barry to be given a new deal anytime soon when he proves his fitness.

Not in the match day squad again yesterday and Charlton have since signed Kayal and Oztumer. He has to go somewhere to play but this does suggest that he might not be at our level currently or anytime in the near future.

Theres been more talk about this is in the On Loan Thread than in here for some reason. He's not being selected due to a lack of fitness and game time over pre-season. He was away with the England U21 for part of it and along with Kayal at Charlton who arrived about the same time has been building fitness.

This is what Lee Bowyer said before Charltons cup game in midweek

“I spoke to the fitness fella at West Brom and he was saying Sam hadn’t played many minutes in pre-season. So he’s a little bit behind. I don’t want to just chuck him in the deep end because you are always getting judged. I want to try and get him some minutes. He’s a quiet lad, so I need to break him in really with the group.

This came up in the Championship thread too, I gave my thoughts there, but maintain he won't get the game time we want at Charlton. There was a move to League 1 on the table and we should have sent him there imo.

Good to see both Field and Leko start. Likely going to have this game on as well as the Albion tonight so a chance to see them both.

Read online that he played well last night. I also saw a moving gif of him over stretching when going into a tackle late and high. From that I thought it should've been a red card and a penalty. Not given.

Very lucky not to be starting a 3 match ban and costing his team a point.

Don't agree. Clearly won the ball but unfortunately followed through into the player. Some may have called it a foul but he won the ball 100%.

Should've been sent off for the follow through to be fair. Other than that though he controlled the midfield first half according to Charlton fans, some calling him a "class act". Pleasing.

Could still be classed as wreckless even though he won the ball. Definite red in the modern game.
