Totally unpredictable, 3 - 0 down, hopeless performance, pull back to draw, the ups and downs of supporting the Baggies

That's why we love them, that's why it's in the blood

We don't attract glory hunters, just solid, intelligent supporters, Black Country through and through

it's clear for all to see, we need an additional CD and a RB, a further defensive midfielder, a replacement for Thomas and a couple of strikers. whilst I do not wish ill to Wigan, I would rather they get relegated as they have a couple of players who would be OK for us. MacManaman and Kone anyone :D

My Dad has always said Regis vs Man City in 1978. Has anyone seen any video footage of this goal on youtube? Would love to see it.

At Man City - I agree with your dad, I have never seen a recording of this goal, I hope someone, somewhere has a recording to post :)

No matter how woeful he's been today, he's being played completely out of position. Says more about our strength in the DM role we have.

We need a natural backup defensive mid for next season.

It dow matter what position you play in mate, giving the ball away carelessly has nothing to do with position ;D

Seems to be the same over the last 3 years, I spend half the season complaining about his inconsistency, lack of defensive capabilities, quarter of the season seeing improvement and usually the last quarter saying that he is a good player well worth keeping

It's easy to see why he divides opinions

Just why can't he play more consistently throughout the season - coaching, attitude, why?

I was quite impressed with our performance if I'm honest, I thought we defended very well both before and after the red card and certainly in the first half created the better chances, it was just unfortunate that the first touches of Lukaku and Shane Long were very poor which killed any momentum. The midfield linked very well with Chris Brunt and Graham Dorrans being the pick of the bunch for me, both had their best performances in a long while.

The second half was always going to be difficult after the red card. Spurs are a good team and in honesty, the way they moved the ball, we just couldn't get near them. That isn't due to a lack of effort, that's because Spurs are a very good side and exploited the advantage of the extra man. Goran Popov went insane if I'm honest to actually spit in the direction of Kyle Walker. It is a disgusting act and one which hopefully sees him punished internally. As I mentioned in his thread in the match-day section, had he not faffed about with the ball in the corner and cleared it when he had the chance then he wouldn't have got himself into that position.

It was a promising step in the right direction, but our chances became minimal when Popov got himself sent off. Still, I was proud of the way the lads stucked to their guns and remained disciplined as I was half expecting Spurs to go in for the kill and score 2 or 3.

I don't post very often but in this case I agree with everything you said. In particular I have been critical of Dorrans and Brunt, on today's showing they deserve my praise and if they continue to play like that , a place in the team.
Popov showed his background of the Balkans rather that what we expect in the UK. Perhaps some cultural training would be helpful :D
Downside for me was that Morrison faded badly in the 2nd half more so than most of the other team member, but perhaps to be expected by the way the team worked so hard to salvage a point, they all looked disappointed and shattered at the end of the game.
Things are looking up ;)

Cant see the problem. See games in deeper snow than this 50 - 80 years ago going ahead no problem with 50k+ crowds. Everyone who wants to be there will be there in my opinion.

80 years ago, blimey you must be a silver surfer and a true Baggies fan ;)

West Bromwich Albion FC / Did we make a mistake with Wood?

He seems to score for fun, still young and learning, should we have given him a better chance or at least got more money for a player we have developed over 4 years

My first game at the Hawthorns was in 1958 against Man City. In those days youngsters would queue to buy a little blue plastic star with a picture of a player on it. 'The Tank' was the first one my granddad bought for me. He was my first hero, and the sight of him powering past defenders before unleashing a thunderous shot will live with me forever.
We've had some cracking forwards over the years, but in his own way, 'The Tank' was as effective as any of them. When you look at his scoring record for West Brom and England, he would be worth a fortune nowadays.
RIP Big Derek....thanks for the memories

Still got my stars in an old toffee tin - didn't the tank scvore 6 gainst Man City.

Great player , worked hard always was a winner

RIP

Poor first half, no passion, no bite, no idea, 2nd half played well created enough chances to have easily won this game. Soft goal poor defending, not just Foster

I'll say it again untill we get acceptance - Brunt does not deserve his starting place, we need a right back who can both defend and support, we need better cover in defensive midfield and at CH

We wanted this at the beginning of the season and it grows more apparent game by game

We still need another 7 points

I think Craig Dawson still needs time to be looked at as 22 is young for a centre half but Chris Wood is a bit different. Although part of me feels he is still worth looking at, I know what I have seen and what the Blues and Bristol City fans said about him having little else to his game than goals. Now I know you get people saying "what do you expect from a striker" but you have to have more to your game than goals else Lukaku would start ahead of Shane Long.

I do think if we can get 1.5 million for him I wouldnt blame the club for cashing in.

There are many strikers who don't have an all round game, but they score goals and goals win matches. A consistent goal scorer even in the Champoinship would cost upwards of £3 million, he is still quite young ans scores all sorts of goals, left foot, right foot, headers, shots outside the box, tap-ins, poachers goals.
International goals
he is worth keeping and not being sold on the cheap

Think his days here are numbered (as I think are Brunt's). The squad has moved on.

Amen to that

and a Merry Christmas to all

At last someof you recognise that jones is not good enough and brunt only turns up half way through the season
We really so need a better RB cover in CD and another midfielder
Who can play wide

Eveh though Jara can be a liability I'd take money that they wouldn't have scored two of their goals

With the number of clear cut chances we had in the first half we should have been out of sight with no need for nervousness in the second half - both teams scored some great goals but the right result in the end

They already do, I've been getting news letters for years!

So have I, but coming back to making it easy, in the dim and distant past, it would get to round about lunchtime on a Saturday, my dad would get home from work and on impulse say "Lets go to the Baggies" and we did. Walked from QB (if not booked on Homers Coaches) down to Cradley Station, got on the train to the Hawthorns, walked to the ground went through the turnstiles paid our money watched the game, standing, cheered our team, queued for Bovril and pint whatever, left the game happy or disappointed ,got the train back walked home. No difference in start times, no different ticket prices, watched the game - easy

I think if the stand were to be built right now it would be a mistake because even though we seem to be offering some of the best ticket prices in the league we are still really struggling to sell out.

I think the economic climate is a large factor but from a marketing point of view the club are joke! We just don't do enough off the pitch in compassion to other clubs. Use the newspapers, use SMS, use the email mailing lists, call fans up with memberships reminding them, advertise, get the schools involved, generate more ticket offers, help out supporters clubs more. There's just so much more we should do to attract a higher fanbase but don't.

IF we were to get it right we would see higher gates, and when the economic climate improves even higher gates. That when we can justify extra capacity. Not when were struggling to hit 24,000 charging £25 a ticket in the PL.

Rant over (poster from marketing background  ;D )

Experienced marketeer with a different view

Make it easy for the customer to buy your products - today it is very difficult to just buy on impulse at the Baggies, style cards, registration, other red tape etc. just makes it too hard just to roll up and watch a game. Different days, ticket prices differ from game to game, start times differ, not value for money.
The market size is there, just not exploited properly. Stop being an accountant and be a proper marketeer ;)
