West Bromwich Albion FC / Jefferson Montero (on loan from Swansea)
« on: January 31, 2019, 11:34:48 PM »
Confirmed by Albion.

Montero arrives at The Hawthorns

"Jefferson Montero has today joined Albion on loan from Swansea City for the remainder of the season, subject to international clearance.

The 29-year-old winger has made 12 appearances for the Jacks this term, impressing from the bench on Tuesday in a hard-fought 3-3 draw with Birmingham City.

He is eligible to play in Saturday’s Sky Bet Championship clash with Middlesbrough at The Hawthorns.

Montero has 64 international caps and 10 goals for Ecuador with whom he played at the 2014 World Cup.

He has not played in the Emirates FA Cup for Swansea this season and is available to play in Wednesday’s fourth-round replay against Brighton at The Hawthorns.

Head Coach Darren Moore welcomed Jefferson to the Club, saying: “Jeff will bring an ability to isolate opponents in one-v-one attacking positions and is one of the few wide players I’ve seen who will still go past people. He will give us options and add dimensions for us."

Confirmed by Fulham, and eventually us.

"Johansen's West Brom Loan

The Club can confirm that Stefan Johansen has joined West Bromwich Albion on loan for the remainder of the season.

Johansen – who brought up a century of Fulham appearances earlier in the campaign – joins a Baggies side currently sitting fourth in the Championship table.

Everyone at Fulham would like to wish Stefan the very best of luck for the remainder of the season, as he targets a second successive promotion to the Premier League."

Baggies recruit Johansen
"Stefan Johansen has this evening joined Albion from Fulham for the remainder of the campaign.

The Norway international midfielder, 28, has 46 caps and five goals for his country and has made 12 Premier League appearances for the Lilywhites this term.

He played a prominent role in Fulham’s return to the Premier League last season, making 48 Sky Bet Championship appearances, including all three play-off fixtures.

Johansen has not played in this season’s Emirates FA Cup and is eligible to play for the Baggies.

“I’m delighted we have been able to bring Stefan into the group,” said Head Coach Darren Moore.

“He has got fantastic experience and as a player, a wonderful range of passing, good leadership qualities and a good scoring record. He will add to our goal capabilities and will be a quality addition to our squad.”

Now that there's at least a small bit of genuine hope around these parts it's time to crush it with statistics and graphical analysis!

So, how does this work again? No Premier League team has ever been relegated with more than 42 points, so this graph measures current tally against needed point totals. Also, for comparitive measure, it shows all of our other modern Premier League seasons.

On this occasion, looking at how teams at the bottom of the table are doing, I feel that the bar has been lowered slightly to at the very least 36 points, so that is where the big black bold line of hope leads.

I've waited until around midway through the season as it seems rather useless updating this while no clear overview can be made of the seasons so far. SO! Viola:

West Bromwich Albion FC / The Survival-O-Meter 2: ¡Supervivencia!
« on: January 16, 2014, 05:18:59 PM »
Due to popular demand (i.e.; one person) the giant of a football-related graph is back!

¡Mirad! La Supervivencia - ó - Metro:

This graph is based on the idea that the most any team in the modern format Premier League has ever been relegated with was 42 points (West Ham, 2003). The bold black line indicates a constant progression to 36 points, which I feel at this stage is a minimum target for survival.

Follow the progress through the season!

Right then folks, feet on the floor, get of the tables, it's time to get back to business. What are we doing to do this season, Brain? Oh, the same thing we try to do every season, Pinky - try to take over the world! stay in the Premier League! get into a European competition!

So, how does this work again? No Premier League team has ever been relegated with more than 42 points, so this graph measures current tally against needed point totals. Also, for comparitive measure, it shows all of our other modern Premier League seasons.

What - on - earth:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2156046/Roy-White-Cliffs-100ft-statue-England-manager-visible-France-erected-white-cliffs-Dover.html

"A 100 feet statue featuring the face of England football manager Roy Hodgson has been unveiled on the white cliffs of Dover today.

Created in the style of the world famous Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, it has been named 'Roy the Redeemer' to bring hope to England supporters ahead of Euro 2012.

Bookmakers Paddy Power, who are behind the stunt, said it will encourage England fans who think their team needs divine intervention.

'We're hoping some of that success can rub off on England in time for their Euro 2012 opener against France on Monday.

'Anyway, at the end of the day this is definitely the closest Roy will get to Rio this month!'

Paddy Power claim new manager Hodgson could be England's saviour and are urging fearful fans to keep the faith as the Three Lions head to Poland and Ukraine for the tournament.

Statistics show that a vast majority of England supporters believe the team do not have a prayer at Euro 2012 with just four per cent expecting a win.

However the eight ton sculpture is said to be visible from France so fans hope it will strike the fear of God into England's first opponents, 'Les Bleus', ahead of Monday's opening group game.
The structure, which took a team of engineers two months to create and one week to install, is visible from France

The statue has an arm span of 96 feet and stands on an eight feet tall rostrum with two forty ton cranes positioned behind to hold it in place.

It took a team of engineers two months to create the sculpture and one week to install it on the white cliffs near Dover's St Margaret's Bay.
The England manager pictures gesticulating at the Norway versus England game in Oslo on May 26 this year

Paddy Power claims the statue is a 'potent symbol of hope' for England fans at a time when expectations for a tournament triumph are at an all-time low.

Spokesman Ken Robertson said: 'Since Christ the Redeemer was constructed in Rio de Janeiro in 1931, Brazil has gone on to become the world's leading footballing nation.

'We're hoping some of that success can rub off on England in time for their Euro 2012 opener against France on Monday.

'Anyway, at the end of the day this is definitely the closest Roy will get to Rio this month!'

Most England supporters think the team will need all the help it can get after losing key players like Frank Lampard, Gareth Barry and Gary Cahill to injuries in recent weeks.

The stunt is part of Paddy Power's 'We Hear You' advertising campaign.

The bookies have also pledged to refund losing bets on England's Euro 2012 opener against France if England win."

Group D consists of:

Ukraine - Co-Hosts of the competition, they make their debut in the European Championships, having never qualified as an independant nation. They have also only once qualified for the World Cup in 2006, getting to the quarter finals. They are ranked 50th in the world, the second lowest in the competition. Specially placed in group D, all of their group matches will be played at home.

England - They qualified as winners of qualification group G, and had the highest average attendence in qualification of any country. Ranked 7th in the world, they are one-time World Cup winners yet have never won the Euros. The highest they have finished is third-place on two occasions, however, England did not qualify for the last European Championships.

Sweden - Sweden qualified as highest second placed team in any group. Ranked 17th in the world, they have never won the World Cup or Euros. Last time in 2008 they were knocked out at the group stage.

France - After the 'heroic' meltdown, boycott, and suspension of players during and after the last World Cup, France are looking to redeem recent demons and put a good showing coming into this competition. They are two time euro champions and one time world cup winners, and are currently ranked 16th in the world.

The Netherlands - The 4th highest FIFA ranked side in the world, they were runners-up to Spain in the 2010 World Cup. They are one time champions of Europe back in 1988 and last time they were knocked out in the quarter-finals by Russia.

Denmark - Denmark won their qualification group H, ahead of Portugal. One-time Euro winners in 1992, they did not qualify for the 2008 competition, and have not had a good record in the world cup, reaching the Round of 16 only twice, failing to get past either time. They are ranked 10th in the world.

Germany - They are the 2nd highest ranked according to FIFA. Having three wins each in the World Cup and Euros, and came runners up in the 2008 competition, they are strong contenders. They qualified through group A with a perfect record of winning all of their 10 games.

Portugal - Portugal qualified through the play-offs by beating Bosnia and Herzegovina, after finishing second in their group behind Denmark. Their best Euros performance was in 2004 when they finished as runners-up to Greece. They got to the Quarter-finals last time out.

West Bromwich Albion FC / African Cup of Nations
« on: October 09, 2011, 12:02:18 AM »
Nicely enough, Nigeria have not qualified for the African Cup of Nations so Odemwingie won't be having to take a spell away in January. Nigeria came 2nd in their group, but were not the best 2nd place finishers so did not qualify.

Let's hope he finds form regardless anyway... :P

http://www.wba.co.uk/page/News/0,,10366~2476374,00.html

"PETER Odemwingie will not be African Nations Cup bound in January after he today suffered last-gasp heartbreak with Nigeria in their final qualifying game with Guinea in Abuja.

The Syli Stars forced a last-minute equaliser in a 2-2 draw to snatch top spot in Group B and a place at the Gabon/Equatorial Guinea Finals away from the Super Eagles."

West Bromwich Albion FC / The Survival-O-Meter
« on: September 26, 2011, 02:50:15 PM »
Right then, I remember everyone (well alright then, 3 or 4 people) liking this last season - so here, with a renewed contract, is the magnificent graph that is the Survival-O-Meter.

Simply put, it is a measure of current amount of points amongst all our other Premier League seasons and the 'target', which is 42 points by the end of the season, or about 1.1 points every game.

As it stands, we have 47 points after playing 38 games, giving us around 1.24 points per game. We finished at the same level of points as we did last season, which is our joint highest. However, this time round it was enough for us to finish 10th, in the top half of the table.

General Football & Sports / Weekday Matches 23/24/25th August

Discuss other team's games here.

Right then, figured this may be something good to do.

I will organise a Prediction League for the site, involving soley WBA competative games for the coming season. Seeing as many like posting these in the match forums, it should prove quite popular.

How To Play
It's quite simple, really. All you need to do is post in the respective "Predictions" thread in the applicable match forum. Once you do this you will automatically be added to the league. Remember though, if you start late or miss a match, you score nothing.

You should post the score you think will happen, as well as which team will win. You should also post the first goalscorer of the match (this can be from either team, and can also be "no goalscorer". Own goals will count as the person who scores them).

For example:
Quote
3-1 WBA
Odemwingie

You can edit your prediction as many times as you'd like until the game begins, even after the squad list is published. Any edits after this or invalid posts will be disqualified.

Scoring
Points are as follows:

2 Points - Correct W/D/L
1 Point - Correct Goals For
1 Point - Correct Goals Against
1 Point - Completely Accurate Score (ie; all of above)
2 Points - Correct First Goalscorer
OR 1 Point - If he scores any other time in the match

So potentially, you could score a maximum of 7 points per match.

You only need to put 1 scorer, if this player scores the first goal you'll get 2 points, but if not and he scores a goal after the first goal, you'll get 1 point. The player can be from either team.

Prizes
Sorry to get your hopes up, but this is purely for fun. :P
For now, the winner will get a lot of pride (as well as a nice title under their name). ;)

West Bromwich Albion FC / Clean Sheets
« on: April 11, 2011, 06:20:46 PM »
Perhaps an unwanted record, our most consecutive games without a clean sheet at all. Still, never mind, we have the opportunity to set another by the end of this season!

No team, not even a relegated team (not even Derby) have finished a modern Premier League season with only one clean sheet. In fact, the last time anyone actually did in the top division was back in 1960/61 when Chelsea finished in 12th with 37 points (that season, we were two places higher than them). However they did let in a whole 100 goals during the time.

It's perhaps a long shot with 6 games still to go, but no one's ever survived in the modern league with 3 or less clean sheets.

Of course, it's all well and good setting a record, but it's something that has to change next season, if we stay up.

Right, thought I'd bring this back. For those who haven't seen this before, this is where I post a graph camparing this season to others, and then shout at people for not understanding it. So, here goes:

So far, we have 39 points with 32 games played and 6 games left. We would probably need at least 3 more points to have a really good shout for survival.

I'll post the new one after a match is played when I get it. If anyone notices any mistakes, it's nice to know them, but this isn't actually mine so I can't fix it. :P
