Awful. We've gone from having one of the best defences in the league to that.
When Mowbray took over I did say that I hoped he'd learned to organise a defence in the last 16 years but it appears not.

We are having plenty of the ball but creating next to no real chances.
Although both Fellows and Johnston were disappointing, I do think that they were taken off too early.
Putting Armstrong out wide left was just so poor.

We should be grateful its not like in German stadiums. There you've got a constant flow of people collecting snacks and drinks during the game, with the inevitable visits to the loo to follow. At least here the snack bars are shut during the game so you only have to get up from your seat at the start and tail end of the 2 halves.
Food and drink is available throughout the first half  it's only after half time that they shut.

So it'll be 12.30 on Sat 1st. Better than a rearranged midweek night fixture I guess.

Tickets should have been on sale today but obviously had to wait until the Cup result. Either later this week or maybe next Monday when Burnley tickets go on sale.

I'm detecting a sense of humour failure. Imagine my surprise  ;D .

Probably... been at work since 07.15 and need a 'pick me up' coffee.

Fair enough. Didn't and still haven't read your original post. Getting angry over an opposition player celebrating a win after the final whistle would suggest some behavioural issues or a lack of emotional intelligence on your behalf though, especially given opposition players celebrate winning every time they win. Have you tried leaving games early to save you the heartache of it all? You know, just in case like  ;D ?

I think most people would be angry if opposing players celebrated in front of them after the whistle. Nothing to do with a lack of emotional intelligence or behavioural issues.

So what were your thoughts when the Wednesday players were celebrating their very late equaliser towards our supporters in the east stand when they clearly thought they'd pulled a point out of the hat?

Their celebration of a stoppage time equaliser didn't bother me so much as the goal itself and made celebrating what  turned out to be the actual winner all the sweeter. Pretty much instant karma.

Thought I'd covered that in my original post...as I said I'd be angry if opposition players did it right in front of me.
I sit in the East stand but near to the halfway line so it looked to me like their players were celebrating with their fans as my view was quite obscured by a lot of our fans standing up at the time.

I did also say that my issue was celebrating in front of their fans after the whistle not just celebrating the goal.

Yes the winner did make it feel sweeter.

Thought Mulumbys actions were fully justified and totally reasonable given the circumstances, shame Bartley got involved, but it is what it is. I too do not want to see Football robotomised or snowflaked to any extent.
Nothing justifiable about celebrating in front of opposition fans after the final whistle.

My only real issue with Molumby was after the final whistle when he was celebrating in front of their fans.
I know I'd be angry if an opposition player did that having scored an injury time winner. Ill judged.

Don't they have goalline technology in the 3rd division? ;D
Pretty sure there's no goalline technology along with VAR until 5th round.

People near me always leave on 85 mins. Saw a few people leave when Wednesday equalised too.
It's up to them, they have their reasons.

This melee was all after the whistle, minutes had passed since his goal. I'm not talking about his in-game celebration.

I agree Gaz I think his celebrations at the end were misguided. Bartley idiotic though.

As for the game,  we deserved to win. Thought we played well nice and aggressive winning 2nd balls and pressing quickly. Price was good first half but less so in second half.
We didn't create much first half for all our possession but started the second with proper intent.
Glad Armstrong scored as he played well.
It's definitely more exciting with Mowbray.

Pretty sure I saw Steve Winwood this morning near the ground too.

I don’t get it either. The guy has only been in charge for two games, for crying out loud. Whoever he selects, he has my full support. Does anyone honestly think he would choose a team he doesn’t believe is the best option to win? And before anyone says we have the right to criticize the manager, sure, we do—but that doesn’t make it fair or supportive, especially after just two games. I don’t care if he picks Cole, as long as we win. I definitely won’t complain before the team’s even been announced. How can anyone assume he has favorites already? That’s just nitpicking for no reason.
More nitpicking. Boro,  Portsmouth and Plymouth...3 games not 2.
I do expect Mowbray to play at least 1 of Diangana,  Wallace or Swift from the start today. I just hope he starts Armstrong.

BBC’s piece on the Odemwingie deadline day drama.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/videos/cgrn5qdypl5o

My understanding of it was that we had allowed him to drive down at least. Seems that actually wasn’t the case.

I do remember at the time someone on here questioning how Redknapp had been able to comment on Odemwingie being a “lovely lad” as he shouldn’t have been able to speak to him!

I'm sure I remember something to do with Junior Hoylett being part of the deal and him not wanting to come so it got called off as Odemwingie was travelling down.
To be honest I doubt we'll ever get to know the truth of what actually happened.
I'm not sure I'd trust Rednapp's version of events though.

Yes, I agree, which is why we loaned himBetter teams have better ways of stopping all-out attacking and exploiting weaknesses in defences. It is not just me who thinks our chances are about one in 10 - Betfair are offering 10/1 against us being promoted.
I might be pessimistic and grumpy, but I am a lot more realistic than most.
Surely those odds are as things stand?  If we get into the play offs then it'll be interesting to see what the odds are.
The signing of Armstrong has improved our chances of being in the play offs.

He has to start on Saturday..... doesn't he??? A good all round footballer, not just a goal scorer but that certainly helps!!

Yes I think/hope so, Mowbray knows him and how to use him.
It'll be Armstrong's 28th birthday on Monday as well...what better way to earn that slice of birthday cake than scoring a few goals and winning the game!

Question, have any of the top 4 had their seasons blip yet?
it would have to be one hell of a blip as we are currently 14 points behind Sunderland in 4th and 17 points off Sheff Utd and Burnley.
I could see 1 or possibly 2 of the top 4 having a dip in form but not all 4....or even 3 which would be needed for us to get into the top 2.

Really hope Armstrong starts on Saturday and we can start this last 3rd of the season with a win.

I certainly wouldn't be adverse to giving it a go at some stage but I feel, for now, there are other combinations I would prefer to see now we have an out and out goalscorer up there.

I would expect that Mowbray will still use either Wallace, Swift or Diangana.. for the time being along with Armstrong.

As long as we win then we can't really complain (too much!).

If anyone thinks we can make 4th spot then realistically we could still get 2nd as there are only 3 points difference as it stands.

Personally I think 4th place is beyond us but there are still enough points left for automatics (just that the current top 4 teams would each have to have a catastrophic run of form and we'd have win virtually all our games).

Because without Maja he looks painfully ineffective. That Stoke game was just an awful watch with him and Mowbray would have formed an instant judgement. When he shot from 30 yards instead of sliding Wallace clean through...

You could say the same for Fellows who looks nowhere near the same without that brilliant front man linking the play and getting into positions for him to find him.

Grant has added industry to his game and it has been nice to see, but it says it all that the only clubs in for him in January were relegation threatened sides. That is about his level I'm afraid. He is much improved from the previous version of Grant that was here, but he still isn't great.

Cheers for that. I sort of agree although I'd like to see Grant playing behind/alongside Armstrong.

No chance of TM starting Grant (and rightly so) I'm afraid.

Why rightly so?

More and more I think the squad is lending itself to a 352 system. It would mean some pretty unfavourable decisions regarding who gets left out but hey ho e.g I don’t see room for both Fellow and Johnston in this system as it stands team would look something like
                                                   Griffiths
                          Holgate.              Bartley.            Heggem
Furlong.           Molumby             Price.            Mowatt.             Styles
                                    Lankshear.              Armstrong

Can't see Mowbray playing 3-5-2. There doesn't look like much creativity in that side either.

Generally Mowbray seems to prefer 4-2-3-1 but he did play 3-4-3 on occasion at Sunderland. If he went 3-4-3 he could go with:

                                               Griffiths

                             Holgate    Bartley     Heggem

             Furlong             Molumby    Price                 Styles

                          Fellows     Armstrong      Johnston

Ok, so I haven't read all the posts in this thread, but am I the only person on the forum who is not enthused by this signing?

His strike rate is asbout one goal in three games, we have 16 games left, which means we can expect 5 goals, maybe 6.  However  Lanksheer or Zimmerframe he replaces would probably have chipped in a couple of goals, maybe 3.  So we are 3 goals to the good.

An extra goal per game would have netted us an extra 33 points (28 for the 14 draws and 5 for the games we lost by one goal), so that is near enough one point per extra goal.

The 3 extra goals from Armstrong could then give us another 3 points.  Maybe enough to keep us into the top six - but no way enough for automatic promotion - unless 3 of the top teams all have a total meltdown.

So we are in the playoffs.  One chance in four of promotion?  Not really, such is the superiority of the teams ifinishing 3rd and 4th it is more like one chance in ten.

So what is the point of an expensive loan, suppressing the development of our younger players for the possible financial reward of half a million from our home first-leg playoff tie?

Hope I'm wrong but sorry, not convinced.

1 in 3 is the average. You can't take an average as literal.

Should we make the play offs we are in a pot with 4 other teams so we have a 1 in 4 chance. Sometimes the side finishing 5th or 6th gets promoted. Since we got promoted in 2010/11 5th or 6 place teams have got promoted 4 out of 11 times or 1/3 of the time.

At least he's more experienced than when he had to stand in for Palmer towards the end of the 22/23 season.
