General Football & Sports / Re: Alan Irvine sacked by Albion
« on: November 29, 2014, 03:33:15 PM »
The result for me today has made me officially turn on him now.

Newcastle game was the same. Just waiting for the opposition to score and then do something about it.
Crystal Palace game, Was the same again just waiting for the opposition to score.

More importantly, when is he going to change the side. Every premier league game he has tried to put the same 11 players on the pitch when more than likely, Teams have sussed us out, Theres no expansion or trickery in our play its just so one dimensional and boring to watch. What has Ideye, Blanco and most importantly Varela got to do to get a game, Varelas been fit for 2 weeks apparently. Hes created one goal even when he was carrying an injury. So why not put him on?!

I honestly thought Irvine would do okay and maybe change the way he normally plays just a little bit. But no hes just another stubborn dinosaur who thinks his way is the right way and if he carries on with the way he is going then he isn't going to be here long and god help us.

Hodgson: 'Lambert is in the squad on merit. He impressed me somewhat last season, and moreso after his summer move to Liverpool. He was good during the world cup, and although he hasn't played as much so far this season, he's still been impressive. His place wasn't in doubt in my mind. I know there has been calls for Berahino to replace him, and he has been playing and scoring for my other old team West Brom. But people don't understand the gravitas of playing for Liverpool. Lambert playing infrequently for Liverpool is still a step up than playing and scoring for West Brom in my mind.'

Hope they pin that statement on the dressing room wall, that'll get Berahino fired up.

Hodgson has gone down in my estimation by saying this.

Hodgson: 'Lambert is in the squad on merit. He impressed me somewhat last season, and moreso after his summer move to Liverpool. He was good during the world cup, and although he hasn't played as much so far this season, he's still been impressive. His place wasn't in doubt in my mind. Thats going to do Berahinos confidence a whole load of good, says a lot about england selections in general

Nothing to do with hating anyone. I don't know Alan Irvine and have no reason to hate him at all. Even if he is a resounding success at this club (and even the most staunchest person against him would love that as it means we are going places) I will fail to understand how he actually got the job and how we approached him about it. I will never believe that he was the best man available for the job. If he was the best now why was he not the best when Mel was appointed ?

After this international break he has (on paper) the best squad this club has had available for many many years if not ever and he has turn it around and prove himself to everyone watching.

For me I wouldn't be sorry to see him gone today but I am realistic and know that won't happen but if by the end of October we are in the mix at the bottom and are not winning games then Peace has some thinking to do and if he pulls thr trigger then it calls for a new backroom team to come in, no hanging on to the players mate,. Total clear out.
I agree with what you say there, i honestly think that we are paying the price for having the same stale squad for the last 3 or 4 years and we are only readressing it now. We have to be the most unique club in England structure wise because i haven't seen other clubs do the same as we have.

IMO Downing and Kiely being best mates with the players i don't have a problem with but in general No one really cares as long as we are going well whereas if results don't go our way its seen as poisonous and not helping the cause at all. But to be honest if the whole management ended up putting rockets up players butts and shouting at them, it won't do the morale of the players any good and they will resent them which will end up with them getting sacked anyway! The days of managers shouting and screaming at players whenever a result goes bad is over IMO.

I think some fans will just hate and never accept the manager no matter whos appointed.

I honestly think that us with Irvine is just like Pardew with Newcastle, Some Newcastle fans have never accepted Pardew because subsequently he failed with Southampton when they were in League One, even a 5th place finish and a european adventure never got their fans onside with the appointment.

I honestly think with some fans, even if Irvine completely turns it around and we have our best ever finish in the league, some people will never accept that he was the right appointment

i'm shocked as much as anyone about the Irvine appointment as it was right wing as it was ever going to get but after one bad performance at swansea  (Which we somehow always capitulate badly for some bizarre reason) i'm not going to be out sharpening the knives yet. IMO i still think he will be a big surprise and do really well but thats just a hunch and my opinion.

... and what has been the foundation of our recruitment process over the last few years... out of contract players.  Think you've answered your own question.

To be honest, if we learned anything from last season i would hope i don't think we'll be doing that again.

The only place we'll be FLOWING devon is into the championship if we dont hit the ground running in terms of new players actually forming a TEAM, rather than 5 or 6 from last year and 4 or 5 complete strangers. That , my friend, is a recipe for disaster.
The sooner we can get any new signings integrated into the TEAM, and the structure of the team, the better.

JP at the moment looks like Nero fiddling while Rome burns  >:(

I understand what your'e saying mate, but we don't know what'll happen when the new head coach is appointed, for all we know they could have one massive burst of activity and get everything done within two weeks, like many people say i don't want us to to go down but i think theres not much point worrying about something which we can't control.

Why are people getting so worked up over not signing any players?  ??? We can't buy any players until July 1st anyway, plus will there really be any transfer activity from any clubs whilst the world cup is on? The only signings teams are making are out of contract players. People need to relax a little and just go with the flow, we have a couple of months until the season starts anyway.

Have you guys seen the mix lately?

'Need a central midfielder, different type of forward and a different manager.'

'I wouldn't write Corberan off quite yet but he's certainly failing to impress with his arrogance and inflexibility.'

'I had high hopes for Jackett but if he resigned tomorrow he wouldn't be missed.'

KJ needs to pull his finger out of his $$$$ and sort it.'

Beggars belief  ???
Although saying that, these are fans who they think they should be in the Premier League because they have 'awesome attendances'  >:(

http://www.oddschecker.com/football/english/league-1/relegation

they can't be right for a third time can they??  ;D

Legend. Thats all i can say about him, The greatest player i have ever seen play in a striking role since i have started watching the albion. If he dosen't come back for another season, He will be missed! Top attitude to boot as well.
If we got a player like him, i would be the happiest baggie in the UK.
When he becomes a top striker playing for a top club, i will be looking at his career with great fondness.  :)

If the wolves fans hound out Morgan, then they are in massive trouble. If they think they are going to get a new owner just because they might be the biggest club in league 1, they are sadly mistaken.

This will go down to goal difference, no doubt. We just need Sunderland and Wigan, hell even Stoke to pull their head out their backside and win their games, its crucial that Sunderland win against Newcastle tomorrow though as Sunderland have a VERY hard last 5 games. Villas goal difference is horrible so yeah get down to it you three!  ;D

Going off on my summer holidays will be very worring knowing the likes of Lukaku, Odemwingie, will
be gone and we`re left with Fortune, Long and Rosenberg, I say keep him for another year and then at
least we have 3 donkys to get us relegated next season.
i'm really just starting to think that you THAT pessimistic, or just a troll if i'm honest.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: Markus Rosenberg
« on: March 21, 2013, 10:07:42 AM »
There's an article on the official site with Clarke empathising with Markus just pointing out how Long and Luk have been hard to get past and because the team shaped up to 1 up front even harder. He also said he wants Markus to get a chance in the final 8 games.

I'd like to see him get a chance and start a few up top now is a good time to give people chances.

I believe judging him as fans with the minutes we've seen of him is harsh and unfair but as a person I'm more about giving people chances and having patience it's not really our job to pick and choose who goes and stays we should support the players at least he hasn't taken to twitter he's just got his head down and trained well and applied himself I'd say we should concentrate more on supporting players with his attitude that slating players with petes attitude

I do think the criticsm of Rosenberg is harsh, in fact really harsh from a couple of select people, but 2 points to remember:

1. he has not a full pre season with us, he literally just came in a couple of days before the season started.

2. He has barely had enough time in his favoured position (which is up top in a 4-4-2)

Look at Elmander in his first couple of seasons at Bolton, He did bugger all in his first two seasons at the club, something like 8 goals in 55 appearances. However when Coyle came into the club he flourished in the next season scoring 12 goals in that season. All i'm saying is i think really we can only truly judge him in next season WHEN Lukaku and Odemwingie are gone.

if Villa don't go down i want Sunderland to go. Bunch of smug t**ts who think they are better than they are. They are like the North Easts version of Coventry!  ;D

Love it if it went to the final day against Wigan and the went down to an own goal on 93 minutes  :P

That, my friend would be better than the wolves own goal against Brizzle.  ;D

Who cares if we didn't play well! its a lot better than playing like swansea and keep missing chances and ONCE AGAIN Stoke jams another sucker punch! i'd of taken a point at the Britannia anyday, People underestimate how strong Stoke are at home. Lets face it if we wern't playing Stoke  we probably would have played a hell of a lot better.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: European Adventure
« on: March 10, 2013, 07:41:58 PM »
To be honest, the only way that we could get a european adventure ( and this is the easiest way possible if i'm honest) is if we get to the final of a major cup with one of the teams already in a european place or winning the cup. It will be VERY hard to get to 5th this year, but come on guys we've had a good year despite the setback. If we finish 6th this year, it will be monstrous acheivement for a club especially of our size.  :D

Lets face it  if we finish above Everton and Swansea this year (who basically have been the media darlings all season) we will all be smirking and giving  a big f*** you at the Landannn media.

Reading were pathetic. It wasn't even close.
I'm still flabbergasted to how we lost there!  :o

What. A. Player

I honestly was always wondering why my dad was always saying to me he was the greatest player to have ever put on the albion shirt. I honestly thought he was overexaggerating on it. But wow, the skills he had with the ball and the way he just glided past players at will. I only wish i could have seen him play in the 70s and 80s  :(

Honestly, People will be surprised how many teams in the premier league would want a player like Shane Long, maybe not the top 7 but teams below that would give an arm and a leg for someone like him. Just think he gets far too much stick on here, hell a year ago people were saying after his performance against wolves he was the "complete striker" How times change   ::)
