Steven Reid - Pepe Mel
« on: March 08, 2014, 06:54:59 PM »
Did anyone else notice that Reid made every effort to refuse to shake Mel's hand when he went off, he swerved him first and then also blanked him twice.

Another who is too big for his boots appears on twitter saying this and that but then spends half the season on the treatment table.

We're doomed.  The players have no respect for the manager and the manager is unable to buy in the players he wants / needs.

As a club we've been too complacent in hanging onto players past their sell-by-date in the belief they were actually good enough.

What a joke of a season.

If that's the case he's an absolute disgrace.

If that's true then I'll be happy to see Reid go in the summer.

This is the man who talks the talk, but generally can't walk the walk as he's more often than not on the treatment table.

Too much of his part to play at the club is being a 'senior figure' in the dressing room. Give me a player who's willing to fight for their manager over that any day.

Someone of his age and injury track record shouldn't have been given a contract this season. He will definitely be gone end of season.

It was really disappointing to read that as I never would ever think that Steven Reid is that type of player. He is past his best now anyway I think, I personally felt he should have gone in the summer, hopefully he will be gone this summer.

I saw what you are talking about and I thought it was very strange. I've set it up to record when it is repeated tonight to have another look before I say what I think as I'm not sure.

I'll lose a lot of respect for him if he did, in-fact, such action would be a disgrace, especially when he was hauled off due to injury, but the thing is he shouldn't even be at the club anyway. He should have been told to find a new club in the summer and we therefore should have signed a new right back.

I really hope, however, this wasn't the case.

Seems a very odd thing to do given that he was pulled off because he was injured. If he did blank the Head Coach it is indicative of a poor attitude among the players and there is nothing anyone can do they will get us relegated they will be shipped out and we will start again in the Championship without them.

That was one contract extension which at the time got me concerned about any real ambition to move the club further on. He'll definitely be gone in the summer though.

I've just watched it again and there is definitely something in it. He clearly walks past Mel who has his arm outstreched, ignores him a second time and then Mel taps him to insist on a handshake and when Reid isn't going to reciprocate Mel says something to him and he acknowledges and seems to walk off showing little respect. Disgraceful.

I'm off Twitter for lent, but I hope the fans are all over this - everybody should be asking him why he refused to shake the coach's hand.

Eto was man enough to shake Jose's hand yesterday despite their recent spat.

Always thought he was a pro - obviously not.

The Club has subsidised this prat for tens of thousands of pounds for much of the past seasons when he has been supposedly injured and this is the way he repays that. Total tosser. The sooner he departs the better.

Ive messaged Reid. Not abusing him, simply asking why he blanked Mel's handshake when he was coming off. I've also recorded the incident on my phone and will upload on here later.

Look forward to seeing that.

One reason I have read why Reid was retained was he is good to have around in the dressing room. Perhaps he has had too much influence and one of those that have contributed to the mess we are in and ill-discipline within the team.

IF theres any truth in this I think it tells a story , Steven Reid is one of the most the respected and respectful players in the modern game. Always two sides to a story.
