Jesse Lingard has signed for Forest.200k pw apparently.  10.4m in wages and a signing on fee no doubt. 1 year deal.
Forest buying almost an entire team and still getting linked with more players. Has someone there won the lottery? Doesn't necessarily mean they will build a strong team spirit.

Sky reporting it’s nowhere near 200k. Just the modest £115k plus incentives.

If they get the West Ham lingard, that’s probably not a bad deal.

Man City are stacked in every area to be fair. Probably similar to Chelsea in squad size.

Southampton have submitted an official bid this week around £16m to sign Liam Delap on permanent deal. Manchester City have turned down the proposal. 🚨⚪️🔴 #SaintsFC

Delap, top target for Southampton but there's still no agreement in place."

Yeesh 16m turned down. Not like Man City need the money though they can let his future pan out naturally.

Liverpool got £24m for Brewster after 6 months in the championship so £16m was never going to be enough, even if City want to sell.

Southampton were tipped as a preferred club to get him on loan, but if I were Man City there’s no way I let him go there now.

24m for Brewster was nuts though. More fool United for payng it. Liverpool must have been laughing as hard as Cardiff when we signed Zohore.

It was, but if Delap came down on loan and banged around 20 in the championship first time of asking, someone would pay £30m if Man City were willling to sell next summer.

More fool them for paying that as well! A top EFL striker is 15-20m for me.

I agree (although Watkins went for £28m I think?)  it’s just that if Delap comes and does it, he won’t just be any normal Championship striker.

He’ll be a 19/20 year old English striker on the books of Man City. There’s no guarantees though.

Balogun was highly rated and didn’t set the division on fire. Although 3 goals and 3 assists in 900 minutes isn’t that bad at all, it does mean nobody is going to pay £40,000 a week to loan him again, like it was rumoured Boro did. Arsenal will need to let him out for much less if they want him to get games.

Totally forgot about that Balogun deal. Waste fo money that was indeed!

Southampton seem to have a very expensive habit in wasting cash on young City players. They paid about £14m for an unproven Angus Gunn, who couldn't stop the shots and just last month they paid a similar amount on another young city gk. If Delap sale goes through that would be nearly £50m on potential from a club like Southampton.

We really can't compete with that.

Newcastle are keen on Leicester winger Harvey Barnes but the Foxes want £50m for the 24-year-old Englishman.

£50 million is probably a fair price in this market for both parties. Wouldn't sell him for much less than that.

Let’s talk about Forest. There is a lot to unwrap here.

Broadly there are two approaches that promoted can adopt, bolt on 4 or 5 new players onto the promoted squad or go for a whole new team. On balance the former seems to be more successful and Forest are going for a whole team approach.

To date they have signed

Taiwo Awoniyi   (£18.45m) from 1.FC Union Berlin
Neco Williams   (£18.00m)  from Liverpool
Moussa Niakhaté (£9.0M) from FSV Mainz 05
Giulian Biancone (£9.0m) from Troyes
Omar Richards (£7.65m) from Bayern Munich
Lewis O'Brien   (£5.3m) from Huddersfield Town
Harry Toffolo (£5.0m)  from Huddersfield Town
Brandon Aguilera (0.8m) from LD Alajuelense
Jesse Lingard    (free) from Manchester United
Wayne Hennessey (free) from Burnley
Dean Henderson (loan) from Manchester United

None of it is horrible with the exception of Lingard who has in effect loaned himself to Forest for the season. The wages are north of £100k a week with a signing-on fee taking it closer to the earlier reported £200k a week. The assumption that Lingard is somehow going to be the difference between relegation and survival is laughable. This is a player who has had a 3 month purple patch in 3 years and that was in a West Ham team that was a lot better than the current Forest squad.

To be fair to the club they pretty much had to do a complete rebuild on the back of a number of players leaving and two of the last years key performers Davis and Garner being loanees. But where they have fallen down is making two key mistakes.

1 Buying two players of similar quality for both full backs positions.

I genuinely don't know which of the full back signings are first choice particularly at left back one will get the bulk of the minutes and the other will be an expensive and difficult to move flop.

2  Buying an ex-Liverpool youngster for too much money e.g. Nico Williams
It's a Liverpool thing sprinkle some star dust on average players and charge a premium to a mid to lower level Premier League team. Very few of these deals go well for the buying club.

They probably haven’t finished integrating the new players will be difficult.  I have a great deal of respect for Steve Cooper but this is a mammoth challenge.

Nottingham Forest have spent, so far, in excess of £70m I believe and they aren’t finished yet according to some sports journalists.

It’s a huge risk and gamble, but is it worth it? Time will tell
