They beat Accrington Stanley 6-1 to get through.
We only managed to get 3 past Accrington, when we played them last.
We are notorious about losing to lower teams.
About time we turned things around.

Its an entry to Europe cup competition thats why

They could scrap it and give the European slot to the side who finish 6th place in the league instead.

From what I can gather, the reason it doesn't get scrapped is that it is still a bit if a money spinner for league 1 and 2 clubs who can get bumper pay days from the progression bonuses and the chance of drawing a Man Utd or Chelsea.

Still, would have thought the Prem and Championship clubs might have pushed for it this season.

Orient/spurs v chelsea or Barnsley
Preston/brighton v luton or man united

Plenty of potential upsets in round 3 and 4the round plenty of all prem draws in a worst case.

Not that many years ago, the early league cup rounds would produce lots of low key upsets.

This year, Villa reserves have won 6-0, Wolves reserves won 4-0, Norwich reserves won 6-0, while Leeds and Brentford scored 3 each.

It feels like the gap has widened. Either that or nobody takes the league cup seriously anymore.

I suspect it's also because the lower league teams are increasingly inclined to play their Reserves too! They might as well rename it to the "Carabao Underbelly Cup"!

Lots of positives from an England perspective from the Man City league cup win.

Having watched the highlights, City's defence was entirely made up of English qualified defenders from their youth academy, which considering Taylor-Bellis is out on loan in Belgium is impressive and encouraging.

Phil Foden scored 1 and set up 2, seemingly being deployed in a deeper, more creative role than usual.

It was all topped off by teenager Cole Palmer scoring a great first goal for the club, running from the half way line unopposed and sweeping it into the bottom corner from 25 yards.
