West Bromwich Albion FC / Why did we play in yellow and green yesterday?

Our colours are navy blue and white stripes, no other club plays in those colours.
What is this obsession with yellow and green?
I was following  home andaway when we adopted the yellow and green,(and i fort it looked vewwy pwetty), but we are West Bromwich Albion, not Norwich City.
It's got to the point now that our fans are more interested at the start of the season if we will play in yellow and green, rather than who we will sign.

For god's sake, pull yourselves together you lot.

 I reckon the best signing we made in the 70's was Johnny Giles, without him there would have been no resurrection, no Cunningham, Regis or great 70's side.
Giles was not only a superb footballer but a winner and a leader.
At Wolves the best signing they made was Emlyn Hughes, another winner and leader.
He joined a poor team and won the league cup and secured a top six finish.
So is a great captain better than a coach?

Gordon Nisbet, i saw him play in goal for us at Coventry when i was 14. Later he was converted into right back. He played over 600 games for different clubs before joining the Police.
Does anyone know if a goalkeeper has been converted into an outfield player before or since and played in both positions in the top flight?

I am in my 63rd year and been a lifelong Baggie. I never used to miss a home game and went to most aways.
I have seen a lot of lows and highs, more lows though than highs, but i still got the buzz every new season, and before every game.
I lost the buzz years ago, and gave up my season ticket three years ago, despite renewing it for a few seasons previously through sheer loyalty.
In all that time we have never been a consistent club except in just one field. We are consistently the biggest misers in the league, always putting profit before ambition.
In 78-79 we went close to sweeping the board but ended up with nothing. That team we had assembled was one of the best we have had, but it cost very little.
It was made up of home grown players and snips for the likes of the three degrees.
We needed just a couple of class players added that would have seen us be a force for the next decade.A top class keeper should have been bought as Godden was a liability.
Instead we sold Cunningham, Cantello, Robson and Moses.
We went into a decline that we have never really recovered from, consistently making the ground smaller and having a small club attitude.
Be grateful for a few seasons with the big boys we are told, we shouldn't really be there.
What a shyte way to run a football club.
Against all odds we performed the great escape, all to no avail, we failed to strengthen and sold our only two strikers the following January.
Players like Phillips, Kamara, Odemwingie and Berahino left because we wouldn't give them the terms they wanted.
Instead we faff about with the likes of HRK and Rondon, who will never be strikers as long as they have holes up their bums.
Our owners don't believe we belong in the Premier league, but are happy to pocket the premier league money.
We will never win another trophy in our existence, unless it's a lower league bit of rubbish.
We finished being a football club years ago, we are just run as a money making business.
It would have been better to have had a do or die attitude and folded than carry on this coma like existence.
Actually clubs who do go bump usually end up being better off as our ambitious neighbours will no doubt show us.
When you love someone or something for so long, but are continually let down by them putting themselves first, then you begin to really dislike them.

I know this has been covered before and if appropriate this can be added to a relevant thread.
There was talk years ago of moving to a new stadium, possibly near Wednesbury. But in those days it was a pipe dream, we hadn't got a training ground.
Now we have a billionaire owner, how would fan's feel about moving away from the Hawthorns?
Personally i have alway's been against it, so many memories with relatives and friends here, but we have to look for the future of West Bromwich Albion, and we need to progress off the field as much as on it.
I don't think much can be done with The Hawthorns to be honest, it has gone from a ground which once had 64,000 on to a small ground that holds 26,000.
This is totally at odds with the Premiership. The West Stand is better suited to Stourbridge and it would cost far too much money to redevelop the ground.
I know we aren't getting the gates to justify this at the moment, but we are neither fish nor fowl, neither entirely in The Black Country nor a Birmingham club.
A new ground of say 30,000 capacity with room for more expansion as required, built well within the Black Country boundary would be appealing i reckon.
For a start the media wouldn't keep referring to us as a Birmingham club, it would be easier for most people to get to and away from, and anything new would attract new,players, fans,investors etc.

Do you think it's worth the money it takes to run it?

Considering the amount of players that come through to be regular first team regulars i don't.
When we do get someone exceptional they are snapped up by Chelsea or the like in the case of Izzy.

I know Jeremy Peace himself has questioned the point of it.
Is it worth persevering with or should we call it quits?

My Grandad used to go in the twenties and thirties, and he always said WG Richardson was better than Astle and Allen, so i would have loved to have seen him play.

I did see Allen and Barlow play but was too young to remember.

every season we hear the same old tripe from the club.

First we are for sale, then we have two interested parties who are being show round....then silence.
Then rumours that a rich Chinaman is buyingnus then silence...then nothing..and the weeks drag on.

Then we are signing a starlet from Real Madrid...then we aren't.

FFS Albion stop torturing us with bloody daft talk.

We know what will happen, Peace will still be here in August and we will be scratting round on the last minute of the last day looking for a player with one leg on a free because no other effer wants him.

We are like the fat kid in the playground who nobody wants to play with.
Laughing stock.


Looks like Villa have a buyer.

or modern football fans in general, is they spend too much time down the concourse than giving support to the team.
There are some, and you all know this, that disappear 10 mins before halftime and eat and drink down the bar before returning to their seats 10 minutes into the second half. They then always seem to have a bus to catch 10 mins from the end of the game,even if it is a tight game.
You don't see this sort of thing at other grounds.

I'm not having a pop at all of our fans but just the ones i call tourists. They don't really come to give support, just "to be seen" eating and drinking and the on the bus,while the game is still underway.

No wonder half of them don't rate Brunt and other decent players, they miss a third of the game every week.

I have tried renewing online but they won't accept my e mail.
I have put in my e mail,name address and asked for a new password.
But no.My e mail isn't the one they have on record.

Strange that,as i don't recall dealing with them online before,the only bloody e mail i can give them is the one i have got. 

In my day when you were buying something two human beings met and money exchanged hands without all this bloody secret agent stuff.

Can i go to the club in person to renew or is that too bloody complicated for them?

I have booked next Tuesday off to go with my son.

Never seen us train before much less at the Hawthorns so it will be a first for me.

Will retire to the Vine afterwards for food and refreshments,and may take in the Oak Hous.

Anyone else taking in this offer?

There is more to life than work.

The difference in outlooks.

Both similar sized clubs and with good and bad periods of their history evident.

Apart from a very good period in the fifties wolves have been run of the mill.We have been more consistent as a top flight club with the 1990's being the only decade we didn't grace the top flight.

Yet the attitude of both sets of fans is startling.

Wolves fans don't take being in the prem as something to be grateful for,or harp back to how bad things were.They demand to be there by rights and talk about top half finishes.

Coming on sites like this our fans seem grateful to be given the chance to compete against big clubs like Wigan and start threads about how bad we were in the 1990's.

OK we all know that wolves fans are delusional,but their expectations put pressure on their board to push on and they get results from it.
Morgan is making Molineux a huge ground and so will expect not to be relegated.
their ambition grows season by season.

Our happy clappers by contrast put no pressure on our board.We accept the ground shrinking year after year,the inactivity of the transfer window,no parardes and being charged a tenner to see a trophy we hadn't won for 90 years.

We accept all of this because we are lucky to be here after the 1990's.

After all,we could have gone the way of Bradford,leeds,Forest.............and Wolves.

Another summer over,another window almost closed.Stoke and the vile are involved in deals like there is no tomorrow.

Us,we have sold another player to leave us even more threadbare in the LB position.

Everyone knows we need a defender of quality,but we have not signed one,just a 30 year old on a free,i bet you love that word eh mate?

Brum are selling Jerome and Dann for a combined total of £9m.Surely after all the seasons we have had in the prem and the parachute payments £9m would not have folded us.

Morrison has again come under fire from fans.Yesterday i thought he was OK,not brilliant but certainly not bad enough to deserve the flak he is getting.

Tamas i thought had a really good game,but where is the credit?People still pick their "ideal" Albion side and don't even mention him.

Has premiership football and the rise of the team made us hard hearted towards certain players?
