people were frustrated years ago because we didn’t push the boat out and show “ambition” then we got an owner that did that, blew all the money up against the wall (which is what others said would happen) and here we are with people still crying about a lack of “ambyshun”. Frankly it’s not worth griping about anymore as we have being hoisted by our own moronic petard. They got what they wanted in the PL and now we have to deal with the consequences.

The money was wasted but, as you point out, there was no quality control on anything since the day Lai arrived.

People are fed up as we have known we are running out of money for a few years now and yet the blokes in the positions of power still insist on using what we have on players at the ends of their careers.

I don't think the people who demanded we spend money in the PL meant it to be with no thought though, that's just Lai's ownership

You have to go back to Pulis to find the root of the decline

I fully agree. It was under Lai that first let him do what he really wanted though

You have to go back to Pulis to find the root of the decline

Its easy to put blame on Pulis and yes he has a decent part to play in our decline but we were handing out contracts to aging players before he came and thats where the downfall started, rewarding players with higher wages and better deals rather than moving them on and looking to invest in young players to come into the team. We were too busy filling the bench with benchwarmers and waiting for players like Craig Gardner to sign on a free after chasing him for 2 years

We have just fallen behind the times in terms of analytics and recruitment practises.  It is now standard practise to augment traditional scouting with an initial hunt using data analytics.

We have seemed to rely on the manager's personal contacts and the recruitment team's card indexes.

This was posted over an hour ago and not a single person has suggested 'we should have been all over this one' (with an offer of magic beans and morning mist presumably). This place isn't what it used to be. Disappointed beyond belief.

I was going to suggest it before we signed Weimann so I CBA this time now someone else has gone in for him

I think we've got a good idea how and why we got Weimann. What were we going to sign Obafemi with? Magic beans? Morning mist? Combination of the two? Throw in a pre licked Green Shield Stamp perhaps?

I knew you meant before we signed Weimann. We have a rough idea how we afforded Weimann. How were we going to afford Obafemi who is a lot younger and would presumably have attracted a higher loan fee than Weimann?

I remove my original not thought out reply. I think he would have been a better loan.

We are looking to sign one more now JM out so the money was there

I'm going out on a limb here to suggest you've got no better idea than I have as to how much the Obafemi package is costing Millwall and likewise you've no better idea than I have as to how much money the club has at it's disposal.

The Athletic:

Emmanuel Dennis is returning to his former club Watford on loan from Nottingham Forest.

The deal does not have an option for a permanent move, and the 26-year-old’s medical is scheduled for the next 24 hours.

Rob Dorsett

@RobDorsettSky

Big-spending #hullcity close to agreeing a loan deal for left-sided #luton player Ryan Giles. Discussions ongoing about whether option to buy at £5m, or obligation to do so, if he plays a certain number of matches. Ambitions of new Hull owners v clear.

Blackburn reject 18.5m!!!! bid for Wharton from Palace according to BBC.

He's seemed a tidy player but 18.5m seems excessive to me based on the (limited) Blackburn games i've seen.

It’s crazy what the necessity  of playing these kids can lead to. Our own Caleb Taylor is basically losing a year of football, after impressing by all accounts in league one, because he might cost us a couple of point in a season where we have a very slight chance of promotion. With a bit of bravery to play him and let him develop, who knows what we could be looking at.

It would be a superb signing for the Saints. Brooks was man of the match in the last Bournemouth match that I watched

And yet if we'd signed him he'd have been 'injury prone'.

Fair play to the lad since coming back from Hodgkin lymphoma too.
