West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: Ok lets get it out the way.

Dont want to see it and I'm not sure we have the strikers to play that way.  We dont hold possession up front enough which means it comes right back at us which is what happened first half against Wolves.

IMO you can still keep your shape and be disciplined and play out of defence with the ball if a midfielder shows for it.

I have no problem with pressurised defenders 'getting rid' in fact I welcome it but what I dont want to see is our two centre backs or full backs hoofing almost aimless balls upfield especially against teams who will dominate in the air.   Too many hoof balls were up to Fortune and Berra and Stearman were happy as larry heading them away.

Albion throughout history have prided themselves on playing 'the right way'  its part of who we are as a team.   I dont want to go back to the Gould and Megson eras.

Anyone else need a skin graft to the shins?

I normally do after every home game but this one I hardly celebrated.  I just looked to the stars and thanked the Lord.

Its pathetic.  I'd understand if they were getting 35k etc but it seems they have to beat us with whatever they can.

Said 3 home games ago that we need maximum points from Wigan, West Ham and Wolves or an absolute minimum of 7 points.  We got 3 points out of a possible 9.

Not good enough and I believe we are going down.  The fixtures have not been kind but they werent kind at the start and we did ok so who knows.

He is playing poorly at the moment and has been for some time.  Seems to do better when hes up front on his own.  Thats where I'd like to see him for the rest of the season.

You say that but what did they create with that possession? They didn't carve a single chance out. We did to them what teams do to us. They scored a very good goal which makes it look bad on us, but had we kept a clean sheet out of it no one would have complained.

Aside from the goal the only chance they had was Jarvis due to Tamas being rubbish. I could understand if they were carving us open but defensively we played fine that way.

11 shots to their 2 on target. Why are people complaining about the possession exactly? If you try and get up in peoples faces its generally far easier to cut through teams. A lot of today was tactical discipline and for the first time in a long while we looked ok in defence.

Because we were the home side, in a derby against bottom of the table.

We have dominated them in every single game we've played them recently, as in the past 5 years.  We have the better players and were at home and should have imposed ourselves on the game far more than we did.

I thought he was the only one today who showed some fight.  Granted he made some poor decisions when he had the ball, missed that sitter and is genuinely frustrating but at least he puts himself about.

Did more than Odemwingie today who has been generally poor now for weeks.

Never have I seen a Wolves team come the the Hawthorns and get given as much possession and respect.  Bang out of order IMO.

He gives us energy and drive and competativeness in midfield.  Without him we are incredibly lightweight.

Today I feel that we had to be competative in midfield but I'm not sure a 4-4-2 is the answer without Mulumbu.

Awful performance today.  Wolves bossed the midfield 1st half and pretty much allowed us into the game 2nd half but I really didnt think we were good enough open them up.  When the equaliser came it was ultimate relief rather than ecstacy.

They did their homework and stopped Thomas playing by doubling up on him with Zubar and Foley.  We were so poor going forward we resorted to hoofing it and Berra and Stearman gobbled everything up.

I thought Wolves wanted it more than we did and we showed none.  That was the most gutless derby day performance against them that I can recall.

Very little to be happy about tonight for me apart from the fact we didnt lose.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: Was RDM sacked to early?
« on: February 18, 2011, 05:25:30 PM »
Not a minute too early for me.   He was clueless to stop our slide.  Some of his decisions were baffling.

Under RDM we were definitely going down IMO but appointing Roy makes me feel we have a slight chance of staying up.

No unfortunately I dont think we have already done enough.  Those dropped points against West Ham and Wigan will prove crucial.

I look at our fixture list and after this weekend I cant see where the next win is coming from.

Elokobi is a left back so more than likely see Brunt or possibly Tchoyi on him.

Thomas will be up against Zubar.  I fancy JTs chances.

Elokobi while pretty rubbish defensively will be a handfull at set pieces.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: Hodgson Focusing on Defence...

Music to my ears that article is.  Its absolutely critical we sort this defence out.  Our midfield, with the right balance, is good enough and I feel we have enough goals in us to stay up.

Sort the defence out and we'll stay up.  Has he got enough time to do it? Time will tell.

At least he has identified the problem and is willing to work at it which is something that couldnt be said for RDM.

Yeah I'll be watching Orange Crush Saturday night to get in the mood, not that I'll need it mind.

I'm planning a full English in the morning and get to the put around 9.30 for a few beers.

Since the Megson years I have always been confident of getting a win against them as mostly we've had a) better players or b) the type of players to rise to the derby day occasion.

This time I believe we have better technical players than them still but we've got no heart, passion or fight in this team.  They will hurt us at set pieces and its a matter of can we expose their defence as its almost as bad as ours.

I just hope Roy has drilled the players this week to within an inch of their lives on team shape and defensive organisation.  Get that right and we'll win the game.

Spot on decision for me.  RDM had lost his way and we had to act and to bring in the current LMA Manager of the year is a cracking appointment.

He'll bring with him plenty of experience, knows how to organise a team and judging by his time at Fulham knows how to get the very best out of average players.

He's got a job on his hands though to sort out our defence judging by last weeks collapse.
