Bet he regrets that score.

Didn't Barton get banned for less or am I confused?

Barton was referenced in a story I read this morning. He was banned for 18 months initially, but it was later reduced to 5, for involvement in around a thousand bets.

I suspect unless there's any suggestion of match fixing, Toney will end up getting around 3 months.

Thanks JC.  I always struggle to understand why they bet. Everyone and their dog knows they are not allowed too as professionals.

Naughty boy.

I find it hard to have sympathy for them at any level when they get caught

I am not overly familiar with the details of the Barton case however I am not sure that it is a wholly relevant precedent.

As other posters have noted if there is any hint of match fixing even at a very low level e.g., specific incidents also known as spot fixing it will be a very long ban as it will be if he has bet on any fixtures, he was directly involved in.

At this stage I would be surprised to see him play again this season.

Hopefully Toney gets a nice long ban. Probably on decent money but greedy for more.

Strong rumours that Dubai are going to join Abu Dhabi, Qatar and Saudi Arabia in investing in a top European side - Man Utd the current favourites. What a mess we have made of European Club football.

Four oil rich countries trying to buy a Premier League club? Are they trying to spread the risk? Or am I missing something.

Maybe I've worded it poorly. Man City, PSG and Newcastle are already owned by the latter 3, Dubai's investment fund are rumoured to be "joining the party" so to speak.

The middle east already runs the AFC, has nearly enough taken over FIFA and are slowly taking over the top European club sides. Not great.

I predict in a generation there will be two different brands of football, similar to the rugby league and union split. The billionaires will want their own brand, rules, governing bodies etc. it’s already happening today with VAR for top leagues and internationals.

Rule changes for the super wealthy clubs will be next along with super leagues (yep they will happen, inevitable).
