away ground
« on: August 04, 2011, 10:22:10 AM »
As a traveling Albion Fan which is the worst ground you have been to in regards to away facilities?

I went to Bristol City the other week and thought that was pretty shocking!
Although Portsmouth the last time i went had no roof and about 4 toilets which is shocking for any proffesional standard so im going to say there?

thoughts?

Places that spring to mind for me are from pre-season or cup games like Bury and Hereford.

Plainmoor when Rotherham used to be there was a dump!

I also travel away alot, going on last season i thought the catering at Blackburn and Fulham was shocking!!! However i hate going to Stoke, so that is my 'worst' away ground. Although Wigan is never a place i enjoy going too, half empty stadium with fans who use a drum to create an atmosphere.

Many fall into this category. The Vetchfield was awful, Plainmoor, Layer Road, Gay Meadow, Ninian Park, the list is endless!

I think you'd have to go someway to beat the National Hockey Stadium, Wimbledon, too!

Burnley always jumps into my head. Wooden seats and half of their fans automatically want your blood for just going near their ground.
Who am I?
Im Bolty from Quinton.
I love away days and plenty of beer.
Bring back the terraces!

Colchester for facilites, i remember they had like 2 toilets per half a stand and people were just wetting anywhere they could in the turnstiles and everything, and one side was far to full

the two worst I have been to are Burnley, wooden seats, dodgy substance on the stadium roof :D

and QPR- shocking concourse where you couldn't fit two people side by side, single file only, the toilets were very small, the stadium is not great for a view and all this for the cheap price of £50-£80 next season

Wolves, putting us underneath the inbreds so they can spit, urine and throw what they like on you is just ridiculous.

Watford too, what a sh!thole!

Glad I missed out on Colchester now, Burnley, Watford and QPR are decent calls for decent sized clubs.

The worst by far was Wigans old ground - a crumbling open terrace with a dirt bank at the top so when it rained there was a mud slide. It was the absoloute pits.

The away terrace is behind the right hand goal.....

I only go for the beer.

Goodison Park is a cracking ground. Good atmosphere, decent set of home fans, bags of character. Give me a Goodison Park over a Ricoh Arena or a Walkers Stadium any day.

Luton, now that was a dire, dire place.

Always used to hate The Baseball Ground, stuck in a corner with restricted views, the terracing hardly banked at all so those at the back couldn't see much at all (and we almost invariably got beat).

It is but its one of my favourite away days for some reason. Maybe be partly down to the fact that it was my first ever away trip my dad took me on but i think it being old and shabby is great.

I have to say i love the old crappy grounds, they usually have character. The few grounds that for some reason stick out as the ones i hate going to are plymouth and reading
I hate stoke, i hate newcastle more than i hate stoke, i hate andy carrol more than i hate newcastle, i hate v*lla more than i hate andy carrol but i hate the dingles most of all. Albion till i die

I agree with Luton, have to walk through what seemed like people's back gardens just to get to the ground.
