Excellent positioning and touch for his goal. Proper striker's finish which is why he's here.

That finish from Armstrong was ridiculous. It doesn’t look glamorous but it’s a hell of a touch

My biggest compliment about that goal is that if he hadn’t scored it, I wouldn’t have even described it as a chance.  It arrived on him quickly, at an awkward height, on his wrong foot.

Hell of a finish and he was unlucky with his effort first half. Purring at the idea we could have him and Maja as a partnership

Not his sharp usual self of late, as demonstrated again yesterday with that chance.

Hopefully, he can start firing again soon.

His all round play is non existant which is fine if he's scoring his chances, a striker like him should have scored that one on one.

Not impressed so far but we haven't really given him the service.

He's not looked too much like the guy who scored 28 and 24 goals in his last two seasons at this level. You'd be expecting with his reputation at this level he'll come up with at least 6 or 7 more goals by the end of the season, which would hopefully take us into the play offs.

To be fair to him, at Southampton and Blackburn he largely played off the wing and most his goals were cutting in from the left. Hopefully when Maja is back we can see the best of him.

According to Transfermarkt:
At Blackburn and Soton in the Championship he played at centre forward a combined total of 84 games  scoring 47 goals and 16 assists. He has played 38 times at right wing scoring 11 goals and 4 assists and 45 times at Left wing scoring 9 goals and 7 assists.
The majority of his goals and assists have come as a centre forward or right winger.

Where ever he has played in the past , he did a compete air shot with the open goal chance he had against Oxford.  It was like the "new centre forward" clip in the Ladbrokes advert.  If Devante Cole had missed that one, there would have been wailings and rending of replica shirts.

Jury's out.

He's hardly had a chance of note in the games he's played so far. All strikers miss chances.
I'm more concerned with the lack of quality chances we create.

Exactly right. He is a quality player, I have no doubt about that. Our challenge is to get him more involved in the area that matters most!

For this you could read Tom Fellows. Getting more out of one might get more out of the other.

I know he scored the penalty, but he really doesn't do anything if he isn't scoring, and again didn't look likely today.

Hopefully, today will give him some confidence to push on.

Agreed. Be tempted to start with lankshear at turf Moore and see if he can hold it up.hes not a loan striker he's like Grant he's a secondary forward. Maja different level all together

As Andy Johnson said in commentary, Maja would be linking the play much better, but Armstrong is a different type of striker. He is more the 'goal thief' who has a good positional sense and can find those pockets of space. When Maja is fit, it will be a brain teaser for Mowbray to decide who to deploy or both of them.

Thought he pressed well yesterday. Good movement and lively. I'd like to see Maja linking the play in the ten role supporting Armstrong's pressing and movement with Fellows and Johnston wide.

We'd be able to move teams around in patterns of play without going gung ho, exploit the spaces created and have two instinctive finishers in areas where we can hurt the opposition.

As things stand I'll just have to dream as Maja isn't available. Despite lacking Maja's physical presence Bany however looks a useful alternative in the meantime.

Thing to remember though is we have a squad and options. Starters and finishers etc, nothing need be written in stone. When we need a presence up front swap Armstrong for Dike or Lankshear.

I would like to see Dike and Armstrong as a pair, ie close together, Big man and a poacher scenario

Whilst I agree, Dike is still some way off being fit enough to start.
