We no longer give out 4 year contracts willy nilly these days so the hierarchy must rate him very highly.

Why do people take so much notice of what rival fans think? A player who has been desperate to leave for years has detractors, well that's hardly surprising.

Versatile, young, he will be hungry and most importantly he plainly has talent. Now he has an amazing coach to develop him. All for a good price.

It does seem Corberan was keen and I'm glad we've got him a player he wanted. With 5 subs allowed and so many games in this division, you need a competitive squad. A very welcome addition in my eyes.

Despite being viewed as extremely fickle, the opinion of football supporters should be taken seriously given they watch the player in action every week. There is a general consensus on Styles performances so hopefully in newer surroundings, a better team, and an extremely good coach, he can prove those doubters wrong.

I personally have not seen him play so I will not pass judgement on his ability. I do have a concern that when a players versatility is lauded so loudly that he’s very much a master of none and merely becomes another number.

That would have been the Nations league not the Euros.
He only aged one game in the Euros; against Scotland.

Both points made here, aplified as loud as possible.

Football fans opinions arent the gospel, they lack nuance and suffer from biases, but you can get a lot from 3 different sets of fans saying similar things. You cant just discard it.

The second point is also spot on. Its why i hope Corberan does focus him in one role, rather than spreading him across all roles.

Let's give the guy a chance. If we were relying on fans opinions on how good a player is and if they should play, I wonder what Albion and Cardif fans would have been saying about Karlan Grant before the season started and what they are saying now. I trust CC to have a better measure of a player than I do. That includes Grant who I thought was finished at the Albion

As you say Phil, people doubted Grant’s ability to get back into this Albion side and will have discussed so on here, but that hasn’t meant fans are booing him at the ground, giving him a hard time etc and there has been no negative reaction from him following fans doubts in his first few performances this season.

The reality is that discussing the merits of the Styles signing isn’t “writing him off” as an so often see written here and fans expressing opinions on here isn’t going to be an issue for Styles when he steps on the pitch.

I suspect no Ipswich fan would've expected Gareth McAuley to excel for us in the Premier League. Celtic fans couldn't wait to see the back of Mikey Johnston. Tom Fellows when was on loan I saw described as pacy but nothing else.

Just three examples of players making good here after they'd been almost written off.

There are all sorts of reasons players differ in performances from one club to another. Fitness, the coaching, the standard of other players around them, trust / support within the group, change of position or role or maybe even just that they are happier.

It's best to judge on what you see a player do in an Albion shirt as long as you're fair and constructive.

I guess I'm just a glass half full kind of supporter, who until it becomes obvious such as a Kenneth Zohore, I trust especially, this manager to bring in good players. I think the last person I had an immediate negative reaction to coming into the Albion before a ball had been kicked under him was Alan Irvine and posted my feelings about him at the time.Maybe I'm just too trusting and enamored with CC at the moment. I just think he is the best manager we have had at the Albion for a very long time and I hope and pray he is stays with us for a very long time. To give Callum Styles a four year contract must say something about what our management think of him.

Without wanting to be too awkward, Macauley was loved by Ipswich fans. Reigning player of the season there when he joined us.

Johnston is the one to keep more in mind, althoigh from what Celtic fans said, Vitoria fans had the same feedback asus from his loan spell there.

Maybe it's to protect any and eventual potential sale value?

Im for the signing of Callum Styles with his, age, and potential but think I will join the bandwagon of doubters if we sign Will Keane.

Yes, your almost certainly right, but he caught the eye and I remember googling this English name player amongst all the Hungarians.

I do think we are signing players who are looking at a chance to enhance their reputation with half an eye on a chance to get a Premier League chance, either with us, or with another Premier league team, because that's where the big bucks are.
Nothing wrong with that, as long as it benefits the team and the club in the process.
Loyalty has very little place in the modern footballing world, but that's where the importance of attitude comes in, selfish players are detrimental to team ethos.

I've seen mixed reviews from Albion and Barnsley fans. Some Barnsley fans happy to get rid saying we signed a dud. Some are like. He didn't want to play for us he has potential he was injured at Millwall and Sunderland joined to late. Albion fans asying similar things with mentions that Carlos tends to transform players who look like they aren't pulling weight or possibly near the exit Grant, Mowatt.

I myself think that we can't judge him til we see him play in the Albion Colours and see how Carlos uses him, this make time if he is a Versatility man to find his feet with the demands of Carlos and where he feels comfortable in our system and also for Carlos to figure out where he sees him fitting in. He looks good for Hungary when I've seen him and he must have some talent to play for them either way Good luck Callum and welcome to the Albion.

Styles looked good last night and delivered a defence splitting pass that Maja shot wide, would like to see more of him but in no 10 role . Think he’d have bigger impact than Swift.

It was Johnston who delivered that pass.

About the only thing he did when he came on. Was really disappointed by MJ yesterday.

Styles looks a good option on the left hand side in my opinion.

Seemed ok at LB from the bits I saw but didn't seem like a natural LB either.

Frabotta clearly not in CC thoughts. Hopefully he can be moved on in Jan to free up a spot

Did ok, in a difficult game, in a much changed back 4.

Injuries kicking in elsewhere with wunderkind Rigg out for Sunderland yesterday and Sargent at Norwich, so hopefully, it evens itself out and we can start catching up a bit.

I've actually forgot what it feels like to win.

CC has publicly named Styles as a player who can do better than he has shown so far in todays E+S.

Hopefully the same public 'kick up the butt' is ready to launch for others, especially Wallace and Grady.
