Possible he's a bad trainer but still. In games hes generally been ok. Deserves a chance ahead of Mowatt Swift etc as you say
Even if he just didn’t turn up for training he would still be worth a go ahead of the fantastic gang of midfielders we keep reverting to despite them suffering from lazyitis

Whilst he looks very gangly everything he does just seems so natural. There was a period in the second half where they had pressed us and he just calmly retained possession, moved into space and played the ball wide. It just oozed composure in a period of the game where everybody else lacked it.

Did anyone catch Bartley screaming at him again at one point for not showing for the ball?

That's generally Bartleys way of acknowledging he's having a bad game himself I yhink

He wants to start screaming at himself for a change. Fed up of his attitude. And we’ve got another year of him.

His attitude has always been bad but seems particularly bad right now.

I hope Diakite is here beyond Bartley and gets to express himself rather than being hounded out by a ****

I've yet to be convinced that Diakite is the answer to a defensive midfielder.  He sometimes takes a number of touches to get the ball under control.  I've seen him trap the ball poorly, lose it and then often gain it back in a tangle.  He does fight for possession which is definitely and improvement on some of the squad but whether he's the answer.
However Mowbray has been brought in to improve players, no?

Hope to see a midfield of him and Price tomorrow. Would love to see Styles in there too but that may be a bridge too far, and also to enable that Heggem would have to be shifted LB and Holgate start.

I do think a midfield 3 of Diakite, Styles and Price would be so energetic and it would be very different to what we’ve so far seen.

With apologies to Albion 79 this is the pertinent part of the thread

also worth noting the Diakite situation, Corberan didnt rate him, his training sessions were very intense and Diakite struggled, he had a very bad injury a few years ago and keeps having little setbacks and so he never really got upto speed with Corberan and had he stayed, Diakite would of been gone this summer. Mowbray is bit more relaxed but again because they have to manage his training load he doesnt take part in a lot of team training sessions, he has to do individual work, rightly or wrongly the club rely on data a lot and Diakite is reguarly at the level of suffering injury.

Lankshear was the same when he came in, Albion were appalled at his fitness levels (not because of him but Spurs training is very different) but they have put him on a special program and he is getting near where they think he should be for a championship team, thats apparently what Mowbray was referring to when he commented on him the other week.

Diakite's fitness is very important, if it is as per Albion 79's post unreliable and not really on an improving trend then there has to be a question mark about keeping the player for next season. On the face of it he offers the prospect of being an alternative to the declining Mowatt in the 6 role which admittedly requires Mowbray to have a tactical rethink but I think some of the summer departures will prompt that in any event.

If he is unable to cope with the physical demands of being a regular starter in the Championship then it is best for all concerned for him to move on to a less demanding league. I say that with no sense of "good riddance" as I might with some of the other players that leave this summer it is just unfortunate.

Start him in the next few games then and see how it goes in that case.

Diakite with one leg in a cast and the other tied up behind his back still offers more energy than Mowatt.
If he really is “injured” then why is he constantly named in the bench ?

Probably to come on for the last 10 minutes  similar to other on the bench.  You know when Swift and Mowatt have done enough running.

I’d be really interested to see a midfield of Styles, Price and Diakite. More legs than a spiders nest.
