He hasn't hit last years levels yet but really should have had an assist first half, i also don't think he should have been the first one to be took off on Saturday. You watch him and he gets so frustrated because they're so slow to get the ball to him sometimes.

I thought he was ok first half, busier than Diangana often is and I felt more expectation he could do something than I often do with Grant.

Second half he faded badly though which was often the case last year too but he hasn't had much football yet.

I agree with this,he moves and makes the runs but most of the time on Saturday by the time he gets the ball everyone can see it’s coming to him .
Our general movement when we have the ball is poor …out of everyone on Saturday he and Maja looked more mobile and that really needs to improve .

Needs a run of games. He also needs Fellows playing because otherwise teams know he is our only outlet and stop him by doubling up on him

Both he and Fellows need to be on as much as possible but they need bodies up there with them.

Sorry that comment was a bit No **** Sherlock but we all know that's it in a  nutshell.

It's one thing that needs to change quickly, we can be so slow on the ball and its not even just passes to the wingers. I'd love to know how much time we spend with the ball at the feet of one of the centre halves or Mowatt. Everything just needs to be that bit quicker.

Thought he had one of his better games since returning, not a high bar granted but something to build on i hope.

I say stick him up front in 442 and tell him to do what he wants without worrying too much about defending.  They'd have to man mark him at least, so that would be his defensive duties covered

Green shoots of recovery in that performance for MJ.

Let's hope he gets better and better in the games to come.

I would persist with that team until the other amfs show any promise off the bench.

i agree.
i think in one of the pre match threads around 6 games ago i called to have that 3 behind maja being fellows grant and MJ in the number 10 role. he has that style of Koumas about him running at defenders which no one likes and creates space elsewhere rather than a static swift who doesn't really run either.

diangana or swift is not the answer in that 10 role. it has to be MJ.

I'd like to see MJ tried there and even Styles tried there when we have a left back. Styles seems more attacking than defensive and he's short which is great for turning and twisting players inside out with his low centre of gravity, plus his little legs give him the 'scamper factor' as i call it where he hits top speed a lot quicker than an average size guy and creates yards instantly.

I saw that he was still playing the other day.

How poor a summer of recruitment that one was for us.

I would need to be convinced that MJ has the range of passing that Swift has (on a good day).

MJ had a big part in both goals Sunday, sometimes that really is enough
He will come good, we have to remember he had quite a bad injury to his eye socket and missed a fair bit of pre season.

In terms of the 10… I am a fan of swift, when he’s on it he can be very good….alas , those days are pretty few (some of that may be attributed to tactics)
I can see why people would suggest MJ and styles and others…..but I really think Mowatt would be a good fit in there …..IF….we had energy (diakite/Molumby) behind him.

Can we stick to discussing Mikey Johnston in this thread please. John Swift has his own thread.
If you disagree with another posters opinion could you offer a reason rather than just criticising it.

A great assist tonight for ROI, it seems his confidence might be back.
