What makes him not a proper No.9?

I would say his general lack of any ability whatsoever  ;D

What makes him not a proper No.9?

Next time BTA starts, watch how often he actually holds the ball up.   It might be 1 or 2 times per match.  Doesn't win headers, and is usually in the wrong place at the wrong time.

What an unbelievable goal that is tonight, don’t know if we’ve got him on some good form but if he keeps this up he’s one of the best wingers in the championship & needs to be purchased next year. God knows how Celtic fans hammered him but thought Rogic was the saviour.

Fantastic goal tonight.

Celtic fans must be living in some backwards football rating system

Threat on both wings with Fellow’s and Johnston and encouraged to see him take on fullback down the line on weaker left foot. Goal he scored was class looking like a good bit of business for club in January.

Only flaw is that he’d cost too much now to buy!

Tremendous goal. If he never kicks a ball for us again he has already been a successful loan signing. Big credit to much maligned scouting department.

Well Baggie82 so you’re giving credit to the scouting department regarding Mikey , who is an outstanding player ,perhaps the Marshall signing sees them in a different light given his contribution so far and reluctance from the last manager to use him .

I really like him. Was expecting him to be something between Montero and Sarmiento but from the moment he came on against Blues he's just been a threat.

The Celtic thing is overplayed. He's playing against a low block every game up there with no space to run into. Championship suits him because most teams will attack for at least periods of the game. I'm sure he'd rip the likes of Ross County and Livingston to shreds if they decided to play on the front foot.

I just find this level of expectation bizarre, do you expect every freebie loan signing to rip up the division? To have one big success from two loan signings of Johnston & Marshall is success.

Obviously he's been incredible. However, I still feel that the Celtic fans opinion hasn't come from thin air either. No offense to the SPL but it's hardly the Premier league in terms of quality.

At this point my one reservation is that Johnstone is a bit of a one-trick pony who cuts in and shoots but can't really cross. Aside from Arjen Robben who was a master at this, it's not really a viable strategy for a winger as it's too predictable/easy to defend if it's your only asset.

As said, I'm really happy with him so far and he's been a big upgrade on Sarmiento. But this is my only worry. I guess time will tell by the end of the season and hopefully it's not the case.

It's a similar thing to Fellows in that his main trick is left foot stepover, drive to the right, whip a ball in.

For both of them it seems predictable but they do both just about do the opposite enough to fool defenders at championship level.

If either can replicate what they're doing right now in the premier league then they'll be serious players

Was it Rodgers who recalled Barnes whilst at Leicester? I hope he doesn't with Johnstone, we'd be outside of the play-offs without his goals!

No it was the French bloke.

Good! Sadly I reckon Celtic may be tempted after tonight. They've struggled to kill games lately and he could be the answer.

Checked on some of their fan forums at half time and they are happy he's scoring for us purely so they can get a fee for him as they still say he will flatter.to.deceive

Another great goal. He has Moments of brillance but seems to fade dramatically as games go on.

His goals might tempt a prem club, but he won’t play at that level.   Almost certain he will be sold this summer though, probably in to the championship but the price rises with every goal
