The demise of West Bromwich Albion fc
« on: September 01, 2023, 09:30:15 AM »
This great club a founder member of the League is on the brink I will remember the many great players who have worn the famous blue and white stripes but today I just don't recognize the club it's heart and soul are being ripped out.
I'm struggling to come to terms with the mess this club is in how can anyone in business make such a  shambles of everything?
If we lose some of our best players today we will do well to avoid relegation then we will have a repeat of this season.
Walsall will be our big derby game.

I was just thinking of starting a thread myself.

My concern is "bigger" than Walsall being our derby game. My concern is that the club may not exisit in a few years.

I am worried that the FA will want to make an example of someone, and lets be honest we're not a sexy club and I just have a nasty feeling we're going to be that club they make an example of. This is aside of the worries about our current owners.

We haven't even got anything to show for our troubles, no FA cup win, no European matches under the lights, no big exciting signings, no success.

Do my worries have any substance? Who knows, but it certainly feels like the begining of the end.

We will always exist. If we have to start again like Portsmouth then so be it. This club won't die.

I have heard this " the club may not or will not exist in a few years" from a few fans, but I disagree this club will continue even if it goes into administration. Like WBArgo says if we have to start again so be it, the Northern Soul motto says KEEP THE FAITH  and I think a few of supporters should learn to do that.

our football club will never die, were too famous. My only worry would be trying to protect our Hawthorns

Mine too. I don't want to lose our ground. My biggest fear by far. Equally (and it's unthinkable right now) I would hate to be a big club where we had to relocate to a bigger stadium. Like you I don't live anywhere near the ground but it's hallowed turf to me. Even my wife who isn't really a footie fan says going to the ground is a very special feeling.

The fans are the club, not the transient players / staff / boards, even the ground (hallowed though it is) could be sacrificed to keep the club going.

This is a blip in the history of the club . It is neither the end of the world, nor the end of this club.

Correct.  Total panic and over-reaction by some.  This season may possibly turn out to be one to forget but the club will survive under new ownership, which is inevitable.  We didn’t get promoted last season and we’re unlikely to get promoted this season.  At the end of October last year we were bottom of the Championship.  It’s possible but unlikely that we will go down this season.

We’ll no doubt reset and start again next season under a new owner.  The sun will continue to rise in the morning.

Don't get me wrong i'm not loosing any sleep over the clubs issues, just my feelings on it.

And as a side, my feeling is that any potential phoenix club is a totally different club and if that situation was to happen (for me at least) would be the end of the Albion, as I couldn't support any other club (even if they were to play in the same colours and the same ground).

Blimey. Right bundle of fun some of you lot are ain't ya?

I feel like downing a litre bottle of brandy mixed with every drug available then just for good measure jumping off a bridge onto a train track.

Depressing bunch on here sometimes.

Worry not lads and lasses. West Bromwich Albion is going through a tough and bleak time presently but at the end of a storm is a golden sky (though perhaps that should be a blue sky with white fluffy clouds).

Gloria Gaynor once repetitively, and irritatingly insisted on leaving none of us in any doubt that she would survive (I dislike that wretched song so much) and West Bromwich Albion will survive too.

When the Yorkshire Ripper was caught on 2nd January 1981, the following day was bright. It was as if nature was saying the doom and misery and the fear and evil was finally at an end. I suspect when Lai and his not so merry men finally sell OUR club us fans will have that sort of feeling akin to those that the women of Yorkshire must've felt all those decades ago.

Cheer up guys. Albion are going nowhere. One way or another, even if we had to start again from nothing, it'd happen.

We're Albion till we die and we're not dead yet!

Apologies for my share in the gloomy outlook.

We've not had much joy in the last seven years though have we?

That said.... so far this season Carlos Corberan's Blue and White Army have done pretty well in ridiculous circumstances. I guess we should all be concentrating on that.

Sorry for the doom and gloom but that's how I see it teams sniffing around our players who are inferior in my eyes it's so depressing.
On a brighter note Blues and Wolves have been in our position and worse and look at them now so there is always hope, small crumbs of comfort.

Oh yes there is. Honestly can't see me surviving the day with this Gloria Gaynor earworm gnawing away at me. There was NO need for that kind of malarkey fella m' lad  ;) .

Yes so far so good so here comes the 0-1 defeat to Huddersfield and meltdown after a shocking transfer window

If nothing happens today I think it's something like 12 players out and 3 in counting the kid from villa.

We are loaning out anyone who’s on a salary.

I’ve heard it on good authority that Gladys the tea lady is in talks about a season long loan to Wetherspoons…

I think the title of this thread is overly dramatic. Plenty of clubs of a similar size to Albion knocking around in the championship and league one who didn't get to enjoy our decade long run in the top flight. We were spoilt and became a bit detached IMV, got used to punching above our weight.

We should have found out over the past few seasons that not being in the premier league is not the end of football.  We enjoy more 3pm home games (now sky have finally got Leeds and Leicester to put on the TV instead) than in the greed league, seem to winning a fair few of them. The premiership is obviously the aim but getting hammered every week and sacking the coaching staff all the time for failing to run uphill with a second division squad in the top flight isn't much fun either.

Suppose the club went into administration and had to start again in the bottom tier? Well so what, we could fight our way back up the leagues and Lai would be gone. If anything that sort of reincarnation would be therapeutic. I am just about old enough to remember 92/93 and the last time we wrested with promotion from league one and then scrapped survival on the last day in 1994 at Pompey with 15,0000 away fans. That was just as enjoyable at 5-5 versus Man Utd 19 years later.

Great thing about football is that it never ends. Whilst there is life on earth there is always another season around the corner.

What’s actually going on? We were told that we need to make sales, even if they are unpopular, it was also mentioned in the accounts about it.

Now we’re saying there are no more outgoings looking likely and we could be signing a couple.

We have been fairly conservative with players we have brought in; and got a few of the bigger earnings off the wage bill. O'Shea transfer fee has helped tidy us over in the short term. Fair play to the board for not deciding to sell our better players on the cheap. Corberan at this mornings press conference was reported to be upbeat and appreciative of the support given the precarious financial position.
