Maja's goal yesterday was a thing of beauty. A genuinely Premier League class goal. The pass from Furlong, the perfect pull back from Fellows and a top class controlled finish from Maja.

It won't win a goal of the season award, these types of goals rarely do, but it was stunning all the same.

Totally agree. Had it repeat to see how good it was. Furlong’s ball was sublime. Fellows looks up - no hit and hope - and plays a lovely ball that Maja never has to change stride and finishes it beautifully. A goal of beauty

Bring back BTA  ;D

It’s like a breath of fresh air having him up front this season. Just makes you wonder what could have happened last had he been fit all season but such is life.

Said the same on the match thread, it was a premier league quality goal.

Some more great play from him today.  The difference in having a forward who can hold the ball up, offer a goal threat, and play in team mates is massive.  And really, do we think he puts any less effort in than BTA?  Effort is the minimum we should expect from players - it's how they do the rest of the job that marks out the good ones.

He is streets ahead of BTA. Does seem to tire a little as games enter their final minutes but that may be due to the heavy workload that his role brings.Just wish we had a like for like replacement for him when this happens.

No, I think he puts in just as much effort. The difference is that it is intelligent effort, as opposed to headless chicken effort. Personally I think we did well to offload BTA for the money we got. If he can avoid being brutally assaulted again, Josh will be a big asset this season.

Without a doubt had we had him all last season our results would  have improved still that's in the past hopefully he can avoid getting assaulted this season.

That was a FANTASTIC goal yesterday did you see his body language when it went in he was as happy as if he had scored it himself. I was disappointed Jason didn't go straight to him rather than showboating.  Im really warming to Maja

As for BTA, don't get the hate posted on here at all...wish him well, sorry to see little game time during their tepid start

Very good all round performance but for me Grant should have had at least one assist. Also for all the genuine good that he did we were perhaps fortunate one laid off back pass in particular didn't cost us. Just glad he's available and clearly enjoying his football. Excellent in the build up to his assist for Molumby to go with his goals so far. Good stuff  8) .

I know his goal input has been great but the way he drops a bit deeper to link up play makes us so much more dangerous going forward. I feel like any success we have this year could hinge on keeping him fit all season.

He had some lovely lay offs and give and gos and that one ball to set Fellows through was top drawer.

I know we only saw him in spells last season but looks a completely different player now, you back him to put away a chance when he gets it.

I was pleased when we signed him but after a year of injuries and not really showing much in glimpses we did see i was concerned, CC had doubts too.

I just hoped a run of games and he would get his confidence and sharpness back and its fair to say he has! Not just his goals but his use of the ball has been brilliant and he seems to be getting more and more confident, still a good age and the chance to keep on improving.

When King Carlos basically called him out end at the end of last season, and his injuries, I never expected this start to the season.

I think everyone is surprised by his form and KG's and that is why they brought in Cole.

Hopefully, both of them keep up the great start and the big worry I had about goals is really sorted out long term.

Is it too much to hope DD, who has had his knockers, comes in offers them support up front.

Really pleased with Maja so far - I didn’t expect to see much of him this season as I was never too sure that Carlos liked him but he has gone a long way to proving those doubters wrong. His link up play is excellent which adds a new dimension to our attacking play.

If anybody listens to the Not The Top 20 podcast, they did a stats section focussing on Maja's start to the season. It isn't just his goals - his 'expected assists' and crossing numbers are very positive, which shows he is doing more than just hitting the back of the net. Colby Bishop, the injured Pompey striker, commented on his great link up play y'day, too.

Up The Major!

I hope he gets a promotion to lieutenant colonel, after his astonishing shooting skills.

On a negative note though, Cole started last season brilliantly for Barnsley, before losing his shooting boots.

Fingers crossed and touch wood that fate doesn't befall JMaj.

I can forsee a scenario where Dike is up top with Maja playing as a advanced 10, would be a real handful for a defensive unit, add in Fellows and Johnstone and it could be terrifyingly effective.

I definitely posted when we signed him that he was a very good footballer and started to look the part at Sunderland before choosing to sign for Bordeaux…

This year he looks in even better shape after the layoffs due to the two assaults ,his ability and form means that there is absolutely no need to rush Dike back and whilst all strikers want to play…Maja playing 60 mins most weeks with Cole and or Dike coming on for the later part of matches could work out to be exactly what we need ..

Injury free he finishes top scorer in the league this season

noticed during the game vs Plymouth he is very clever in his movement off the ball, not just with the runs he makes for chances but in that he doesn't go wider than the 6 yard box anywhere on the pitch majority of the time.

compared to BTA who was everywhere but down the middle of the pitch Maja is not wasteful in his movement and energy and also helps him to be in the right place at the right time as all of his goals have showed so far this season.

That is kind of what Rooney said after the game, that Maja was 'interesting' and very difficult to mark due to his movement.
