If Corberan is going to choose one between Ashworth or Reach for the replay, I hope he will give Ashworth a second chance rather than Reach.

I would like to think he doesn't have to choose between either. Both equally terrible today.

Got away with it. Dominated the second half once we made the changes but didn't create that much. At least second half we visibly competed and worked harder. The first half lack of desire was unacceptable.

I fully expect us to win the replay but we might have to play a stronger team to do it. We have 14 / 15 players good enough for the first team squad. The rest, sadly, are not.

Corberan shouldve learned about some of these players today.

The reserves will get lambasted with stock phrases like "we have no strength in depth" and "this is why they don't play  first team", but across a decade of naming reserve sides in the 2 Cup competitions, I can count on one hand the amount of times I've seen a cohesive performance. The analysis might still have some truth - Reach and Livermore and tired players, Ashworth might not eventually make it at this level, but in reality you are setting the players up to fail because they don't have a developed understanding with each other, while atleast 3 players were being played out of position (TGH, Diangana, Reach). Throw them in vs a set of professional footballers who are full of confidence, on a winning run and properly balanced and it is no surprise we struggled.

It isn't Corberan's fault as such - every manager has to do it - but I just don't think you can make a meaningful analysis of that performance.

Get players like Livermore, Reach, Grant and Diangana into a 5th tier side week in week out and they would run away with the league. They just can't function in a disjointed line up.

I’m not a fan of a lot of our squad and think both its quality and depth are overrated by some, but it’s a big exaggeration in the opposite direction to say some of them are non league standard.

It was obviously a poor display and not many suggested they would strengthen our first team, but it did feel a bit thrown-together and it’s not surprising they were a bit of a mess and there was no cohesion.

We have some mediocre/poor players - some of them are playing in our first team - and some decent ones who have in recent weeks managed to carry some of the weaker brethren. But drawing the conclusion that some of those squad players are non league standard on the basis of this particular game is several steps too far.

I’m also glad we have a replay and haven’t ended up being humiliated, even if it is an extra game to play.

A Replay isn't an embarrassment hopefully on TV if I can't make it if it is on Tuesday, a Wednesday I could possibly go hopefully decent attendance and a mix of strong spine and some fringe. Then Second half bring on more of the First Team to see game out. We are for now still in the draw

Promotion is still the absolute priority. I think its important that our best players get a rest in our hectic fixture schedule as we can't afford any unnecessary injuries, burn out etc.  We also need our fringe players get match practice, because they will be needed at some stage of the League campaign. Does though highlight where we are at our weakest.

I agree with this analysis, there are very, very few teams capable of making 11 changes & maintaining the performance levels of a settled first team.
I actually think it short changes the fans when we do this, as we are almost always bobbins in the cups.

Really alarming & disappointing performance from the 2nd string that, they got completely outworked, outfought & outplayed. None of the starting 11 made any sort of case that they should be starting in the league which is very concerning you’d have thought the Grant, Grady, Kelly, TGH, Rogic would have really bust a gut to show Carlos they deserve to be starting in the league instead they looked completely disinterested & put a real half hearted shift in, they needed to match Chesterfield’s intensity & our quality would have shown through instead they mailed it in.

Very lucky to be in the hat for the 4th round, Carlos will have learned a lot from the mentality of that starting 11 today he strikes me as the type of coach who won’t accept been outworked & outfought. God help us if Palmer, the 2 full backs, Yokuslu or Wallace miss any extended game time we’l be stuffed.

With two incredibly hard away fixtures coming up, a replay in the cup is definitely not ideal, however that's the situation we are now in.

Chesterfield are flying in the national League and their home form is brilliant (only dropped 6 points at home) so I think people are doing them a disservice today thinking we should have won easily. Wrexham beat Coventry today, there is quality in that league. I'd be very concerned if it wasn't for the fact we changed our entire first XI, but we did and it acted as a leveller. Saying that we have some absolute dross in our squad, can't help but feel Ashworth ended his career with us today after that performance, he was so out of his depth, I felt sorry for him.

Just got back and saw score. Had to leave around the time they brought Dike on, Kelly off but it doesnt sound like much changed.


The players most of us have been begging for the club to get rid of stink out the place as per.  Some of them are happy to retire here if we let them. Some happy to just get paid. 

Grady was poor, Rogic was poor, even Ashworth was poor and he's normally solid. He did have Reach and Grant around him so i'd want him to start again in the replay. Virtually everyone was poor.

I wasn't expecting a vintage performance, most of these guys have no minutes in the starting XI so they are going to be rusty and suck but to not even try for some of them is unacceptable.

Even CC got it wrong today.  TGH is never a RB, we know this. Adam Reach is never a CM or whatever it was he was playing, we also know this.

A really poor performance but as I said in the pre match chat...make too many changes and the team lacked cohesion.

Chesterfield played well and were very unlucky but boy am I glad we equalised.

We could have done without the replay being as it's only 3 days before the Burnley game.

Button is still poo, reach isn't much better and poor old Jake laboured but can now be seen for how limited he is when compared to what we have seen in recent weeks from OK. Great scores by Brandon TA and to be fair to him Grant. Very lucky to have the replay to look forward to and it will be interesting to see if he still picks Button for it

As for today. A lot of the "Shadow" Squad let themselves down. Livermore was off the pace, Kelly isn't fit. Ashworth looked a bit overawed but no protection in front. Old Grady isn't up to it either. Chesterfield did their homework and worked for everything and we got sloppy and its a reminder we will be in massive trouble

Im glad we got a draw, Can't believe some Albion fans were saying they prefer to go out (On other forums mostly) a joke no wonder people think we are a joke club

I’m trying to reserve my season ticket seat in the SME for the replay but can’t figure out how to do it?

I’m very good on computers but our ticketing site always makes me want to smash my screen up!

I’ve logged into my account but don’t see an option anywhere to buy for the replay.

Tried going to order history as it said that in the ticketing article but still don’t see an option.

I know I can call the ticket office on Monday but want to get it out the way.

Tickets are now on sale for Albion’s FA Cup Third-Round Replay against Chesterfield.

The tie will be played at The Hawthorns on Tuesday, January 17 (ko 8pm), and seats are priced £10 Adults* and £5 Under-20s.

Tickets can be purchased online, in-person from the East Stand Ticket Office or by calling 0121 227 2227.

Season Ticket seats will be reserved until 5pm on Friday, January 13. All other seats are currently available on a general sale basis.

Smethwick End season ticket holders can still purchase their usual seat.

Supporters are encouraged to renew their seats online, by going into their ‘account’ section and clicking ‘order history’.
