I was cheering after 9 mins this morning with our opening goal against France. But for the rest of the match I was very quiet indeed!

There will be a lot of ex-pats in there Saudi / Dubai / Bahrain / Kuwait / Qatar .....  then there are the nutters who drove  :o (about 5 of them).

You are right though out of the reach of "normal" folks. However, I struggle understand why there is such an outcry about no Budweiser, absolutely nothing beer that is !

I think the outcry has been towards the contract they hold with FIFA.

There is plenty of beer in Qatar though - some chaps I know have gone over and they're having a bloomin' good time.

Having lived in Saudi Arabia and parts of the Middle East I know alcohol is available and lots of it, they just don’t like it flaunted about especially in front of children. I also have to say that some of the press about Qatar has been xenophobic to say the least. I certainly don’t agree with how Qatar was chosen but pleased a middle eastern country has the opportunity. I was welcomed everywhere I worked and travelled there and my kids treated with so much kindness and respect.

Japan on fire. Came back from losing 1-0 against Germany to going 2-1 up with 7 mins to go.

Go on Japan!

They were losing 1-0 in the 74th minute so must have been 20-1 at the very least.

I really do think football just isn’t as good as was 15-20 years ago.

Look at the squads from this World Cup compared to 2006 World Cup and I’d be fairly certain most countries were a load better in 2006 & I think that’s why we are seeing these upsets. Really because teams just aren’t that good.

Only got to look at England, I do believe now that we have a chance of winning it but there is only 1 or 2 at most who would get in an England team 15-20 years ago and they couldn’t get past a quarter final

Really enjoyable game to watch. A lot of exciting talent in the Spanish line up, defence looks vulnerable on paper though.

Spain won't have an easier game than that. Costa Rica could not be arsed. Nowhere near them most the game.

You expect the poor teams to be physical but nothing.

The Canadians and Americans are getting better and better. They both have some really talented individuals now, far better than the days of your Brian McBrides and Landon Donovan’s. Surprised to see Canada are as low as 41st in the rankings.

With the way both nations treat sport, I think we could see both in the top 15 in the next 10 years or so, and possibly one of them going deep in a World Cup at some point.

There s a huge gap in the Canadian sports market/psyche for a sport to come along and take over. A wealthy nation of 40 million people could very easily be the first from outside Europe/South America to win a world cup one day.

Going a birth further back, Spain bringing through their next generation in Pedri and Gavi again. Are they back? They are due a major tournament win aren't they, this isbwhat we have to strive to be, producing world class teenagers in multiples rather than singles.

Have lived here in Canada for 30 years, and while the built-in multiculturalism of the country has always made it a great place to watch world cups it was bloomin brilliant today to actually sit in a Canadian bar full of Canadians watching Canada play. Still not as much pure passion as those of us who were watching England-Iran in the same bar and enjoying a beer at 6am on Monday mind, but the Canucks will come along - especially as it is here in 2026. Was great to see the 18-20 yr olds watching too.

Team did the country proud - absolutely battered the Belgians, but just no finish. Was somehow reminiscent of watching the Baggies...

People with chesty sounding coughs.
It doesn't matter how many resources you have.
If you don't know how to use them, they will never be enough.
Oh, and always remember to defecate on those Vile chaps in claret and spew.
