Violence at Football Matches
« on: September 22, 2022, 04:03:20 PM »
Reported incidents of disorder at matches across England and Wales were up by 60 per cent compared to the last full season before the Covid-19 pandemic.

https://www.expressandstar.com/sport/football/aston-villa/2022/09/22/violence-on-the-rise-at-west-midlands-football-matches/

“Albion saw one pitch incursion arrest, one pyrotechnic offence and nine public disorder arrests.”

Dramatic headline. Any idea how many of those arrests at West Midlands' matches were due to actual full on physical violence? My guess (and that's all it is) would be not as many as the Express and Star headline suggests. There are also many differing levels of public disorder.
It doesn't matter how many resources you have.

The rise of disorder at football: why is it happening and what can be done?

A bit more context in this Guardian article

The Melbourne Derby in Australia has been abandoned after a pitch invasion and the goalkeeper being hit with a steel bin. Background - goalkeeper threw a flare back into the crowd following a protest about the Aussie play off final being moved long term to Sydney

It seems it is on the rise again, the 2nd incident in Aus in recent months

If there is a rise in violence at football then it's just another sign of a rise in violence in general with a police force about as much use as a chocolate teapot is it any wonder?

Almost inevitable with how divided the country has become over the last five or six years . When people are in such a fractured state it takes very little to provide the spark to set things off !
