No one will care about his investment more than he will. No matter what their job title or salary.

Doesn't guarantee success of course but should help eradicate the sloppy, carelessness that has been consistent through Ken and Li tenure here.

To be honest, I doubt it will make much difference, it's not as if they're coming in with a fresh look, they were both involved with the appointment of VI.
If it was easy, it wouldn't be Albion

Sounds familiar......

Yup, definite similarities between us and Reading.

Time will tell. Nothing changes when nothing changes.

What we had was not working, it was a disaster and i'm not talking only about VI.

"Steve Madeley
@SteveMadeley78
Also (and arguably just as significant) Ron Gourlay has been appointed Albion CEO & Guochuan Lai has assumed the role of chairman.
Xu Ke ('Ken') remains on board but effectively pushed aside. Hard to draw any conclusion other than he carries the can for Ismael appointment. #WBA"

So Ken is still there but with little say by sounds of it. Managed out.

Li Piyue gone completely.

"Joseph Masi
@JosephMasi_Star
Understand Xu Ke has been moved aside but remains at the club as a non-executive director. Li Piyue, who was chairman but has been replaced in that role by Lai, has left completely. Looks like those two men are carrying the can for Ismael and his four year deal... #wba"

So we appoint a guy who was here last year advising the club on footballing matters. Eg- appointing the manager and summer recruitment of players … that didn’t turn out well so what do we do … promote him. He should had gone along with Val … the club is rudderless

From his Reading days he seems universally hated - reportedly didn't communicate , upset most of his staff and mad a mess of the club - you can see why Lai thinks he'll fit in on the Albion board!!  :P

Will give Gourlay a chance, but disappointed there's nobody for this incredibly important post with more of an Albion pedigree. He sounds a bit like the equivalent of a journeyman CEO.  The most stable clubs tend to have football directors who have lived and breathed for the club over many years.

It wwould be a good thing to have someone with Baggie heritage on the board, it will be interesting to see who he appoints.

Hope he's in it for the club and not for his own CV. Having players jumping from club to club is one thing, but this post is strategic because you are planning for the long term. He needs to have the long term interests of the club at heart.

Joseph Masi Tweeted

Gourlay: I intend to appoint directors with a wealth of football and business experience, who will have the knowledge and commitment required to take the club forward. In my conversations with Guochuan Lai we agreed the club needs to make significant changes to succeed #wba

If he can appoint us a director of football and a manager to actually have some term of long term plan and stability then fantastic.

Did alright at chelsea and man utd. Awful at reading can it be worse than now...

Says he will listen and reconnect with fans … and then goes to appoint Steve Bruce … in less than a hour all what he said is rubbish

Can't wait to see the increase in director's wages in the accounts with his new appointees.

Every £1 million in directors wages would buy us a player on £20k a week.
