When looking at young players that have moved to Premier League teams out of the Championship for big fees and 3 that readily spring to mind are Olise, Eze and Wharton when I watched them play in the Championship my reaction was "You are too good for this division son" I don't quite get that with Fellows (and maybe because I have seen a lot more of Fellows)

There are areas of his game that need work and I can see he is working on them, but at the moment that hasn't yet materialised on the pitch. That doesn't matter too much at the moment a buyer is still buying upside potential i.e. good at the moment but will get better and the ceiling has yet to be defined.

However it is a dynamic situation and even if his contract wasn't ticking down his value will diminish if the potential isn't fully realised. For arguments sake say he had 5 years on his contract but in two years time he hasn't smoothed out some of the kinks in his game then he is being sold purely as a good Championship player and that's not a market where £10m will change hands too often.

My view is that where we are as a club and where he is at as a player is this summer will be the best time to sell. I suspect we might be disappointed with the fee we get but I would be happier with £12m which was cash rather than £15m which was £10m cash plus a lot of addons.

I think the figures around £20m might have been realistic had he made step change in his performances but in truth that hasn't happened.

The problem is, if we lose Fellows, we lose up to half our creativity. Does Diangana or Wallace replace that? We have creativity from Johnston, and Price is showing signs of picking out through passes, but that's about it. Mowatt can pick a good pass but he generally plays much deeper, and Molumby has near to zero creativity. So if we lose Fellows, we have to somehow compensate, and I can't see how we would do that sufficiently. That would translate into less goal chances.

From a playing perspective I would quite happily keep Tom Fellows to the end of his contract and ideally beyond. If we are promoted to the Premier League the financial landscape changes and all bets are off, however as a Championship club we are facing some tough decisions and they are likely to be driven by money rather than by what we would ideally like to happen with regard to squad building.

Last season we posted one of the biggest one season losses ever recorded by a Championship club we are either just inside or just outside the P&S guiderails depending on how this season has gone financially. Unfortunately player sales are part and parcel of the position we are in.

Next summer will be another big summer and yes we have to fill in the gaps and between sales and contracts expiring there will be plenty of gaps which need filling

That's all fair comment Stan. I'm just highlighting that we would have to adapt to losing a lot of creativity and goal chances, and of the likely replacements currently at the club,
I can't see who would compensate.

It’s not really a point of concern - several of those players you worry about as replacements will also be leaving in the summer.

Squads evolve, our will continue that process in the summer.

Nixon story is Everton still keen on Fellows. Not an incoming one.

Hopefully they are still prepared to pay a decent price. Unfortunately, I believe his value is dropping and couldn’t see any club paying anything like the £15 million that was suggested last year.

My guess is he will leave for circa £7 million simply based on potential.
It is not the taking part, but the winning that counts.

we've already rejected £11 million in January from Ipswich, the floor has been effectively set higher than that for this transfer and I doubt 4 months will alter it much.

I don't think you can take much notice of a January bid from a club in a relegation dogfight desperate to sign an attacking
option.
I hope you are right but I reckon he will go for between £7m-10m..nearer the lower end.

Unstoppable today, should of had 4 assists. This was Fellows at his best, strong, direct and clinical(crossing wise)

Then you would be wrong. Just as we were wrong to let Dara go for £7M , and Palmer for £2M (and don't anyone tell me about add-ons , because let me tell you there are none)

I genuinely think the only reason he gets dropped is because he’s a nice person/personality and it becomes easier for the manager rather than someone like Grant who we know can throw his toys ..
He should be on the starting eleven every week barring injury .
Between 2 managers this season him and others have been messed around/misused to a silly degree.
If youre going to get told off, get told off for doing something not for doing nothing..

Back to his best yesterday and very pleasing to see.

Fingers crossed this continues until the end of the season.

I think it was telling that Watford didn't double up on him or Johnston. They came to have a go at us, and left gaps they could exploit. It made all the difference.

Coventry will double up on him Friday, especially after that.

You're spot on. Hopefully we have other options in mind.

We also got the ball forward to him a lot quicker having Price in the centre of Midfield made a big improvement somebody who can pass the ball more than 10 yards.

If teams double up on him, in theory there should be more spaces/gaps in other areas of the pitch.

Of course if a team puts ten men behind the ball that changes things, but in general we're too slow at moving the ball across the pitch to expose those spaces.

opposition has been doubling up on Johnston all season, our issue is how slow we move the ball we don't take advantage of the extra space

We had people doubling up on MJ last season on loan and we could t solve the issue of how to exploit the space then and seem to be continuing that way now

The solution last season was for Mikey to bang it in from 25 yards but apparently that's not a long term plan for success
