Well if this comes off its another free so club isn't breaking bank for player with Championship experience, that's my take from this. Believe he's been training with players for couple of weeks so Ishmael must have sanctioned deal? Maybe not his first choice but happy to have him on board.

I expect the deal is done, he will officially become an Albion player tomorrow but may not be announced until Monday for obvious reasons.

I know nothing about it.

However there’s now some suggestion he’s trained with us, it’s been reported for over a week now with some local journos saying it, season starts in a week and there’s also some weird rule where out of contract players get an extra months pay if they aren’t signed elsewhere. Even as an out of contract player, at this moment in time he may not be able to demand the salary he did when he was signed for £5m so might want his last cheque.

It’s the Last day of the month today. If I was pretending to be in the know it’s the sort of thing I’d now gamble on saying.

Not many got excited when GMac signed or Mulumbu and look what good signings they became. Trust

Macauley was Ipswich’s player of the season while Mulumbu was a relative unknown. Reach has been around for a while and we’ve seen him play.

While it's not a mindblowing transfer it does make sense for where we are, what we need and what we can afford so i can see it happening. Our only other rival is Blackburn as far as i can tell so i'd see us a favourites if not clear cut.

This would be a decent signing. Will he be a regular starter? Possibly not, but he will make the squad that bit stronger.

I am a bit concerned that they may be thinking of selling Grady

No chance 68, we wouldn’t get more than £6m for him at the moment. Guaranteed to be here this season and probably next.

No one will be in for Grady, from the PL at least. His values dropped big time. Luckily only 12 of the 18m was guaranteed i believe.

Mears and Hoolihan were over 35, as reach is 28 I don’t think he will end up in those category. I’ve also seen some Wednesday comments that because of Reach’s adaptability and their problems over the years he’s played out of position a lot. Some comments have suggested if you leave him out left he will be ‘ok’

Clearly that’s not perfect as I’d agree the full backs willl be essential but I don’t think it will be terrible. If you go purely on attacking productivity (goals and assists) over the years, he’s got a far better record than Townsend.
I get the impression that Reach has played a lot more as a winger than fullback and certainly played in more advanced positions whenever I've seen him so not surprising his goals and assists are better.

While we are at it Townsend cost us 750k, didn't let us down in the prem and deserves more respect than one or two comments on here (not from you I'll add).

Yeah I know we'll be playing wing backs but the comparison on Reach / Townsend stats that was made in this thread remains an uneven comparison due to their past playing positions.
I doubt you'll agree but if Ismael wants the ball played forward and into the box quickly I'm expecting Townsend to get more assists this year....he's got a good left foot delivery.

Not particularly impressed with Adam Reach as a signing. 28, best years past him and very slow and lightweight. Not the sort of player for a high press high intensity set-up.

I've read a few Sheff Wednesday forum posts of his time there and they were mixed. Clearly a talented footballer but as you say, meant to be lightweight. I like to read the posts before the player leaves, as they're usually more honest.

Having said all this, I still believe he's a better option than Gibbs over the course of a full season. That may not be saying much, mind but it's an improvement. Who knows though, sometimes a player just needs a certain club or fit and they come on leaps and bounds. I hope this is the case with Reach.

He has been signed clearly as a sub, if Townsend gets injured he would play LWB and if The LW gets injured he would play there, decent signing if you think it would save us signing another LWB and another LW. He wouldnt be on massive wages either.

I really don't understand the aversion to this signing.

On a positive note, I'm happy that we're signing a 28 year old potential substitute/squad player. Back in the day they used to be 32 plus with the likes of Chris Baird, Wes Hoolahan and Tyrone Mears to name a few.

Compared to Mears/Peltier etc this is extremely long term thinking.

For the league we are in, and on a free, this is a decent signing. Not a bad age, fit, low wages and knows the Champ inside out.
We will need depth to play VI's way so this is a very astute bit of business IMO.
