Birmingham Mail reporting we have signed a young Portuguese lad. Development squad or straight into first team?

WBA website "The 19-year-old Portuguese youngster, who turns 20 in August, is an energetic and powerful central midfielder.
Welcome to the Albion, Quevin."

Excited that we have signed a young player on a two year contract. It hopefully shows the way forward by the club rather than signing players of Austin's age.

underbelly was a term coined at the time by Tony Mowbray. Roughly translated as not good enough but can play a cup game or two.

Thanks I had no idea? Lets hope he's a bit more than that, especially if you let someone as good as Edwards go then sign someone on a 2 year contract. You would hope he is potentially better than what you let go.

For what it is worth if we are changing tack on our approach to youth development then do not surprised to see him as 1st rotation option in Central Midfield this season. Right now in the absence of anyone else he is by default.

Is this somehow a tactic to get around the restrictions on bringing in foreign players? If not, how does this lad qualify today?

He was on trial at Chelsea. His last club was Varim, an outfit in the Portuguese second tier.

Very doubtful he will be part of the first team squad initially. But he's young and we get a couple of years to work with him.

Sensible again from Albion.

Transfermarkt had him listed as a chelsea u23 player signed on a free from Varim.

Have they been sensible before in recent times?

Must have missed that one.

Seems a strange signing if he is not going to be in and around the first team squad, it's not like he is 14.

I believe this is a bit of a statement to prove that we can take young talent from other clubs, probably in advance of another one of ours going.

I'm pretty sure he was a free agent having impressed playing non league.
He went for trials at arsenal and Chelsea prior to us.

Noticed Matheus liked it on Twitter. Good luck to the lad, not expecting much though could be like another Diaby signing -

Not sure what this lad's like but the club may see him as a direct replacement for young Timothy perhaps........?

I would imagine having Diangana, Grant, Robinson, Phillips and Snodgrass ahead of him made the decision to let Edwards go a little easier.

I don't think we had a choice. He refused to sign our offer.
