Peter Beardsley charged with racist language
« on: March 22, 2019, 12:52:40 PM »
Charged with saying something that someone took offense to, now we all know the banter flys thick and fast amongst footballers or a group of men in general I wonder if this is just another over-reaction that is now commonplace in today's world.....thoughts?

Not sure it can be called an over-reaction at present when we have no idea what was said...

I think to be using any racism related jokes or under tones in today's world is silliness on the individuals part

I'm just amazed anybody could work out what the naughty word he was saying to be honest  ;D .
It doesn't matter how many resources you have.
If you don't know how to use them, they will never be enough.
Oh, and always remember to defecate on those Vile chaps in claret and spew.

In this day and age if it was "bad" and considered a hate crime the police would be involved.

I'm not offended by what you've said here, but it makes the point quite well that what one person says in jest, someone else may find offensive. For me, too many people take things seriously and they need to lighten up.

There's always that ginger kid in class or in the team who gets stick for having ginger hair. Nothing ever gets done about that. I called a ginger lad "copper top" the once because he called me "Crouchy" because I'm tall. He went absolutely spare. It's like don't insult me if you can't take it lol.

I have no idea what Peter said. If it was said as a joke I think people should lighten up. But If he was using someone's race to be purposely nasty or as a slur, then he should be dealt with accordingly.

Not sure about anyone else, but I've been going up the Albion for 25 years and not heard anything racist. I've also worked at a few different grass roots clubs and not heard anything. We seem to hear about incidents and it's made to sound like it happens all the time at every club. Racism is nothing like it used to be from what I hear and read. But I do think the media is making things worse and trying to stir up trouble.
