To stay up.
« on: February 03, 2018, 06:39:51 PM »
Despite not rating Pardew more than a lot of you don't rate Pulis. I still think we can stay up. However it's entirely conditional on getting this team out for the last 10 or 11 games of the season.

Foster

Dawson/Nyom
Hegazi
Evans
Gibbs

Brunt
Krychowiak
Barry/Morrison
Chadli

Sturridge
Rondon

If this is not possible particularly Chadli I only see relegation.

I agree quite a lot with that team, Chadli does look the least likely so probably Phillips in for him but he is very up and down at the moment. I'd say there's an argument for Rodriguez if he can carry him for of the last 4 or 5 games.

McClean, Livermore and McAuley (legs gone) all need to be nowhere near the 11, preferably 18.

A team with Foster, Evans, Gibbs, Barry, Brunt, Sturridge and Chadli if fit should be able to stay up.

Today however, the starting 11 cost us and that is Pardew's fault.

For a start the central midfield is key. We can't have Yacob AND Barry in there. No legs at all. Krychowiak is critical alongside Barry.

Nyom isn't good enough we need Gibbs back.

Dawson, Hegazi, Evans, Gibbs is fine.

The trouble is the first eleven is OK but if we are without one or two players it kills us.

The likes of McClean, Robson - Kanu cannot be seen again.

The FA to dock a lot of points from the teams above us...

I think with that team we have a chance, albeit with very little margin for error. Sturridge showed real flashes of quality today and with Rondon (or Jrod - might work the space better) beside him and Chadli behind he will get us goals.

Forget the line up, we need 7/8 wins out of 12 with the way sides around us are picking up points. We look like we can’t buy a win and we need champions form - just c any see it happening

Actually think a lot has conspired against us recently. Our first choice team playing together and fit under Pardew is good enough to stay up and hold its own in this league. Injuries and fixtures have made it very tough. I'm not too hopefully of staying up but won't rule it out until a mathematical certainty. What a difference a week makes - who knows how we will feel in a week or two but that's football!

Totally agree with the injuries. They have killed us. With a full fit 11 out I'd fancy us but as its been said we've now left with too much to do

Swansea has two deserved coupon busting wins against top sides, we’ve just made a side who haven’t won in 12 games look like Brazil. They went out with the right mentality- we played Man City and treated likethat that fixture was already lost (even more infuriating after taking the game to Liverpool the week before)

In our position no game is a write off but it’s even harder when you do write those games off then don’t turn up against the sides around you

It's the premier league, anything's possible and for people to claim we are already down at this point of the season is just ridiculous.

The odds are against I completely agree and we have gave big games away we should be winning, but anything is possible and we could all be suprised  ;D

We are only 2 wins from safety, it's very possible to stay up still.

I’m all for staying positive but you’re wrong - we’re  only two wins from safety if the 3 above us don’t win. People seem to be missing the key factor in this equation - survival is not in our own hands.

Pardew  had impact on improving style of olay but done nothing else  poor choice looks like Hammond got a job for his buddy. Cannot see how we can get enough wins to stay up we are doomed

Good line up but 5 of those would be better off at Holby City with the injuries they have.

This is the problem for me - I reckon me, you or anyone on this forum could have improved our’ style of play’ - the majority were just so happy to get rid of Pulis they couldnt (or wouldn’t) see the negative side to pardews appointment.

I look at Southampton today and was envious of how they played, yes we were bad but they played it well - I personally feel pardews just added 3 passes at the back before the ball is sent direct.

Not quite, essentially we need to win two more games than three of the teams around us.
Not impossible, but I'm not sure I'd bet on it at the moment.

Without doubt, the amount of injuries is causing us major problems, but it's likely to be the end of this month before most can return to the team. Based on today's evidence, it might be too late by then.

Got to say, at the moment, I'm not very confident we can stay up.
If it was easy, it wouldn't be Albion

We've definitely got the games to do it, after Chelsea we've got Huddersfield (h), Watford (a), Leicester (h), Bournemouth (a), Burnley (h), Swansea (h). And Newcastle and Palace away after those.

It is going to be a huge ask and we're going to need the type of form that gets you into Europe - 18/19 points from 12 games. 3 wins in 32 would suggest it's unlikely but as you say, the injuries we've had have been dreadful. We haven't had an attacking central player fit all season.

God knows why but I'm still optimistic and think we can do it once we get Evans, Gibbs and Greg back. Momentum can shift quickly and there's often a team who goes on a run. It's been us in the past, Portsmouth, Leicester. Here's hoping.

The problem is by the time the Chelsea game comes round we could be 7 points adrift with Swansea, Stoke and Huddersfield all at home on the Saturday

We need to stop saying things like 'after Chelsea'. We need to attempt to emulate Bournemouth. Burnley showed today how bad the management was on Wednesday.

I don't agree with that. Burnley didn't have to play relegation rivals three days after. I think Pardew did the right thing on Wednesday.

I do agree with you though on the "after Chelsea" thing. We need to be competing properly in every game from now until the end of the season.

You simple can't prioritise games, it never works. Ask Mark Hughes. At 7pm on Wednesday night Brunt Phillips Barry and Krychowiak (Our best midfield) were all fit. At 2pm today they weren't. It was the wrong call.
