Downing, Kiely & Kelly Released/ New Coaches
« on: January 02, 2015, 08:59:46 AM »
So over the last few weeks most fans have been dissecting the clubs structure and one topic that keeps coming up is Downing & Kiely.

At the Stoke game Downing in particular came in for some stick and the general feeling was that these two were part of the problem and not part of the solution.

End of last season Downing & Kiely were credited with keeping us up as Pepe Mel was left out to dry by the club.

So where do these two sit? Were they/are they part of the problem?

Can we see them staying on under Pulis?

Personally I think a clean sweep is needed but not confident that will happen.

I think that Kiely and Downing along with the senior players hold the balance of power within the current structure and that is the problem.

Every Head Coach that comes in is taken under their wing and we cannot move away from that.

IMO when we appoint a new Head Coach they must be a strong character and come in with two other coaches. The Head Coach along with his henchmen will then hold the balance of power.

If they did keep us up last season like many reports suggest, then im extremely greatful.

I think its time they moved on and TP got the full backing and was allowed to bring his own team in, fresh start for everyone.

Thanks and goodbye.

Done their time, served the club well but time to go. Relationship between them and the players seems unhealthy for me, very friendly which is not good for new coaches coming in.

Can't see Downing staying now, so time for a fresh challenge where he's concerned. I think Kiely may be given until the summer to see if he's up to it in TPs eyes. Seperating KD & DK may have the desired effect with Kiely, who knows. Either way thanks KD but ta ra.

While i agree it's time for a change I'd like to thank Downing for his service at the Albion , he has worked hard over the years in a number of roles and when we needed him most he has been there . I wouldn't mind him going into the Academy if he was interested but i suspect he won't , I wish him well whatever he does. I've never agreed with the Dingle Downing line because most of the time nobody really knows what goes on in the club and he has worked for us for years now. Thanks and good luck Keith.
Really not sure what will happen with Kiely , i did feel Foster was a lot sharper yesterday with Pulis about!

Thanks for all of your well rewarded efforts gentlemen.
Sometimes people become too comfortable.
Clean sweep required.
All the very best.
Next.

:o What game were you watching?

His kicking again was dreadful, put it into touch a fair few times and everytime he got the ball he took an age to get rid of it. Granted the players infront of him don't help and we were slow getting out.  His catching was decent though

Same as you , if you know anything about Pulis you will know his Keepers never rush!
His catching as you say was much improved on recent games.

"Kelly, along with Keith Downing and goalkeeper Dean Kiely, took charge of the Baggies side for the trip down to the Boleyn Ground"

From the official site. Says it all really about the mess we've been in the last few years that when the head coach is sacked a "goalkeeper" is officially put in charge. Joke.

I was also disgusted by the Dingle Downing chanting at Stoke. He deserves much better than that by our moronic minority.

Has served the club well and is probably relishing the chance of stepping into management.

The problem I have is that both he and kiely have been here the same amount of time as some of our longer serving players so it's probably a bit too pally pally.  The club is a bit stale which is evident in some, if not most, of out performances.  Needs a clean slate now and Pulis should be allowed to bring in his own coaches.

As outsiders, it is hard to know whether back room staff are good at their jobs or not. That's why it disappoints me that they took stick at Stoke, we making a judgment when we just don't know. There could be an argument that you can directly tell the difference that a goalkeeping coach can make as they only influence one position only.

They haven't advanced with the game.
Our results and game plans prove this.
They have to go or we will still stagnate.

Kiely has acted as an assistant in these cases. He has numerous coaching badges, spent 8 years as Keeper and coach with Albion, with nearly 30 years of football experience, playing over 700 games.

Can you explain what the 'Joke' is?

His not knocking Dean Kiely.

The official website wrote 'Goalkeeper' and it should of said 'Goalkeeper coach'.

The joke is just that, we have had a goalkeeping coach in charge of first team affairs on numerous occasions.

Kiely is still a qualified coach, his job is goalkeeping coach doesn't make him any less qualified.

Plus he is part of 3 man team that took charge of the team so its not like all first team affairs were under his sole charge!! what is wrong with people at the minute..

Its a joke that people go by what the media say and can't think for themselves and see past the poor journalism

It's standard practice to put the assistants in charge when the Head Coach/Manager is sacked. Are you suggesting a goalkeeping coach knows nothing about the game apart from goalkeeping?
