Comparison to last season. Corresponding matches.
« on: August 31, 2014, 07:00:32 PM »
I do think this is valid despite what others have said.

Graph is self explanatory.

As you can see we got 6 points last season from our last 15 games this season.

Edit. we are now 5 points worse off after just 4 league matches.

I think it would be better with the corresponding fixtures ie

13/14

WBA 3-0 Sunderland
Saints 1-0 WBA
Swans 1-2 WBA
WBA 1-1 Everton

= 7 points

14/15

WBA 2-2 Sunderland
Saints 0-0 WBA
Swans 3-0 WBA
WBA 0-2 Everton

= 2 Points

We are only shy by 5 points after 4 games and we only just scraped through!  Doesnt look good does it?

Comparing results with corresponding fixtures last season is purposeless. We'll gain points where we didn't last season and we'll fail to collect some where we did last season.

There are a myriad of statistical tools you could employ to determine our performance levels or (lack of)success but this simply isn't a very applicable one.

We'll probably get one point against Villa this season but that doesn't mean I'll be considering it a success. Also there are three teams here that weren't here last season.

Which have been replaced by the 3 promoted teams in the order they came up. It's as valid as any other method.

Point is we were drawing home games if we weren't winning them and we were picking up the odd away win against teams around us.

I'd snap off your hand for 2 draws against Vile this season.

Where's the Survival-O-Meter? We need that back.

Also a line graph is the wrong graph if you're doing comparisons between fixtures. Better would be a bar chart, with each fixture having a bar for last year, and a bar for this year.

It's exactly the same bar or line... The straight line is 40 points so a nod to the survival ometer

Cheeky. At least make it a clear image with properly labeled axis ;)
Mind you, comparing the previous season is a decent idea. Don't know which of the three relegated clubs should be replaced by the promoted ones, though. And obviously this comparison would grow much less useful over more seasons.

Viola!
