[insert name here] is not very good because...

... we haven't had any offers for them.

I keep seeing this on here, most recently with Morrison and Brunt, why do people assume we have not received offers/enquiries for any of our players. The club simply do not release this sort of information to the public the majority of the time.

I doubt that they are rated enough for anyone to make a significant bid. Look at the silly money some of Southampton's players have gone for. Why aren't clubs beating our door down with £10m bids for Morrison and Brunt? Every player has a price and no doubt we'd sell at the right price.

Amazing. You are following the same false logic the original post is about. Morrison and Brunt just recent examples.

I think your point was missed Jacko.....

We're a Prem level club, 11th, 10th, 8th & 17th. Anynoe who's been here for 4 years is by definition a decent Prem player.

thus, Burnley would love them for example and if Brunt became free Leicester would snap him up easily, but they are only decent, not exceptional and any faxes of interest we get would be dismissed unless a good bid came in. But as you say Jacko we don't advertise, so the news never gets out.

People believe what they read despite reliable people telling them it's rubbish. People just don't give a great depth of thought to things sadly and thus there's no real logic to arguments.
Whenever things look bad, remember the Port Vale, Grimsby and Walsall days... not so bad now, eh?!

With slight alteration the statement becomes true "All our players are here because nobody that matters thinks they are good enough to play at Champions League level" it also applies to all but  half a dozen clubs in the league.

Morrision and Brunt have not been snapped up by other Premier League outfits in part is because the sort of clubs that they might improve. e.g. Newcastle West Ham and Villa are probably deterred by the fee we are likely demand and also there is not a lot of incentive for a player to swap one mid-table Premier League team for another. I would also add that neither have been in particularly outstanding form of late but that is almost incidental.

To date there has been no transfer this window between two mid-table clubs that has involved a fee. Put simply it is a transaction that does not make much sense to any of the parties involved so it tends not to happen.

In a different topic I questioned another posters use of the word loyalty regarding Morrison not because I  assume we haven't had any offers for Morrison more that I was questioning how a player (in that case Morrison) can be called loyal when we don't know if that supposed loyalty has ever been called into question.

Just because a player has been here for x number of years doesn't automatically mean they are loyal it might mean no one has ever put a bid in for them. It could mean that they like the area and if another team from the same area made a bid for them they would go.....we don't know if they are loyal or not.

The things that are likely to make a player stay at a club are things like the club being relatively successful and the player getting the rewards they think they should i.e. improved contracts etc.

I don't expect any player to be loyal to any team anyway.....it's a job at the end of the day.

Your question is valid but it shows also a lack of understanding of what is going on at the club. Have we received any offers for said players - no one outside the club will know.
Has the club and its structure witnessed the ability of said players - yes.
Therefore updated contracts are issued and signed by the said players - so yes loyalty does run both ways.
Morrison - if he runs his current contract will be entitled to a testimonial - not very many players get this now.

Totally agree about Mozza. He is a good player but not massively consistent but when he is on song Albion play well

The times of players getting testimonials are long gone so its quite refreshing too see a player get close to 10 years service

Southampton finished 8th and got absolutely ripped apart by the big clubs.

The season before we finished 8th and nothing much happened.

Why? What was the difference? The difference was that our season was a fluke, in many ways reflecting the mediocrity of the mid table and below teams. We even managed to finish 8th despite a truly dreadful second half of the season where we stank of the Championship (rather than the Champions League). Southampton in contrast had a lot of cultured (if possibly slightly overrated) players that still have a clear upside, in contrast to most of our players that are maxed out at the level they are playing.
