He’s a neat and tidy footballer with good technique but too similar to mowatt for me
He offers no athleticism or pace and not enough defensively or going forward and for such a big lad no presence
If we are going to see a front 4 of maja/grant/fellows and one other I’d like to see molumby and diakite given a chance for a few games once he is fit again

The biggest problem with this team is the central midfield. We knew it would be in the summer though. To use and old Tony Mowbrayism, we have too many soldiors and not enough artists.

The lack of ball playing midfielders mean that when we are in front, we are unable to control the midfield (and therefore the game) and when we are level, we dont have enough ways to break a team down. All of the burden is on the wide players.

It was obvious for all to see that we lacked a creative central player this summer but the club did nothing to remedy it. Corberan also seems happy to operate with wide players in the number 10 spot (Diangana, Johnston, Wallace), suggesting he doesnt put much weight in having a "foot on the ball" type player and instead being happy with what becomes a hybrid of 442 on the counter.

Corberan is the perfect manager to keep a side like us in the top flight, but without a good creative central midfielder, it feels unlikely that we will ever get there.
Whilst creativity from central midfield is important if we play what is in effect a front 4 the thing we lack most from any 2 of mowatt, molumby and Racic is athleticism and pace
I haven’t seen enough of diakite to see his strengths and weaknesses but he is hardly creative
The fact we don’t really have any box to box athletic midfielders means we get so slowly forward and no one is there to draw players away leaving our wide men with 2 to beat most of the time
Central midfield is the one area we should be strengthening but not with like for like we lack legs in there

Why doesn’t molumby slot it.
Mowatt off, how many poor games on the run does he need to have before he’s dropped?

Palmer beaten from distance not in the corner but a good strike
Criminal if we don’t win this game after dominating the first half
Similar to the Oxford game , hopefully we can regain some control

No changes from us , PNE  bring on another striker
Corner they nearly score there own player blocks it on the line
Then Holgate and palmer nearly gift them a goal
Games started boys wake up

Half time.
We should really be more in control of this game we are cutting through them when we attack
Fellows grant maja playing well
Dobbin doing ok
Racic looking better today
A couple of times we knock the ball away when better communication from palmer could see us retaining possession
Palmer also flapping at a couple of crosses and also playing mowatt into trouble, he looks the only weak link so far

Palmer is getting worse, again he gets nowhere near that cross

I’m not sure if Heggem misjudged it, no one tracked Bowler or just no communication but he was completely unmarked
I wish we go and dominate this game and score some goals instead of playing with the handbrake on again once we score

Harsh on styles if purely picked on tactics, also worry for our midfield with no molumby Racic and Mowatt are hardly athletic
You have to think Dobbin deserves a start purely by the fact no one else has nailed down that left side other than Grant

We lost our best and most comfortable on the ball centre half and the best cdm in the league, that massively effected us and signing like for like we can’t afford
All of our centre halves are capable at this level and if Heggem carries on performing like he is he will be a premier league player sooner rather than later
We need a Ben Sheaf type player (Cov wanted 10 million for him) in central midfield
It’s a work in progress and CC has plenty of good grace left in the tank with me

After watching his interview after the game last night it does come across that he cares about the club he mentioned how the players need to give the same amount of effort has our fans who made the long trip last night as a minimum
He also said how disappointed he was ar our use of the ball when we had a chance to break so he also saw what we all saw
I think he can see the issues and is shuffling our somewhat similar and stretched squad
You have to look at some of our recruitment again and if Carlos actually signed off some of these or they just haven’t materialised as hoped

Wonder how serious his knock is?
You would presume a muscular strain has he did it in the warm up
Might give Whitwell a chance to shine from the bench

A very good point, and when you consider we had a mish mash of a team second half an excellent defensive display even if we did try a couple of times to throw it away
After all that we still created the best two chances and given better passing we had 3 or 4 good opportunities to break again
What disappointed me most was our first half showing with a pretty strong line up
Fellows and Johnston lost the ball so many times
In midfield if we had a player like mowatt/molumby combined it would give us so much more balance
I like mowatt when he’s on the ball and made a cracking block tonight he’s just so slow, molumby had his normal dynamo bunny game but lacks the passing range
Maja linked play well when he had chance
Grant run his socks off again
Heggem and styles outstanding, Holgate ok fellows ok when defending
That’s what 10 undefeated but we drop to 7th
A couple of additions in January needed to stay in that top 6

Another two chances to play is in and both Grant with poor choices, he has run his socks off tonight though

Please take mowatt off he can’t move when we have to defend
Good player with the ball but my god he runs in treacle

Looking tired, we’ve gone from half a yard off a press to a yard off
You can only see a goal coming at some point
Please no Wallace from the bench

Bit of an hodge Podgorica of a line up now
Dobbin has pace and offers glimpses of being a decent player

Half time. We look half a yard off any kind of press hence we are sitting deep
Maja has played well with what he’s had but our main problem is our wide men have been so poor
We seem half between a back 4 and 5 at times which has an attacking force is negating it
Centre mid mowatt again looks a yard off the more younger Sunderland players
I think we need another player in midfield, I’d have said diakite but not an option now
I think I’d be tempted to swap Johnston for swift, swift holds the ball better and can keep possession
Back four doing ok apart from when palmer plays them into trouble

Poor choices from fellows and Johnston continually stop us breaking
