Lots of warm words from TM for Swift tonight. You can see what he can bring to the team, spreading the ball around, spotting where the pockets of space are, and an excellent kicking technique which he showed tonight. TM was trying to explain he is best when we need to hold onto the ball whereas in other matches chasers are more important.

He was my man of the match tonight. He got stuck in and was tidy in possession and when we did have good attacks he was normally involved. Great goal also

Has reminded me of two former Albion keepers in the not too distant past one currently up the road and the other went to Reading !

Yes he isn't as bad as button in the error department but he has the same cross taking ability as crisp packet hands Johnstone without the same ability at shot stopping.

He has cost us 2 points tonight. I would like to see what Griffiths has got.

Yes the gamble has paid off in my eyes he is worth another contract. Long term he plays cm with molumby.

Saying that he was excellent at cb tonight

I definitely prefer him in a back three or five that we saw at times tonight. He looks more comfortable too.

He had a good game. He's not a cb in a 2

He should be burying that chance really. That’s what he’s here for.

Yes and other than that he was a passenger. V Hull I would start lankshear or dike and see if that gives him a shot in the arm. Presuming we have Fellows and Johnston back slinging crosses in we really need a presence in there and that ain't Armstrong

Even if we don't make it this season I think you give mowbray the summer and you get rid of swift diangana and ajayi and perhaps frambotta and Cole if we aren't going to play them and let mowbray keep building and working with what we have then we really could be a force to contend for the title.

Total football Tony has morphed into Total Grind it out Tony. We look good going forward and pretty resolute at the back- minus the keeper who looks suspect for me and we should try Griffiths.

Great to see the manager rotate his players not rely on the same people game in game out. Different tactics v different teams.doesnt feel obliged to make 5 substitutions.

I think 8 of the starting 11 were very good or excellent today. Keeper I would only give a 6 he flapped at lots of crosses. Diangana also would only get a 6 he had 15 minutes at the start then disappeared for me. Armstrong was again a non entity fir me (I know that's not his game but he struggled).

Special mention to Price for playing out of position whilst not spectacular he did the job. Styles was excellent both ways and for me probably only behind 2 other performer; Diakite I thought was immense. And my man of the match was swift he was dogged in defence, tidy in possession and when we did attack he was pulling the strings. Also a great goal. Hopefully he finds form until end of season.

Holgate in for Furlong or would anybody play price there? Allows us to bring Diakite in midfield for even more steel...

Mowbray got his subs spot on yesterday and I don’t think that bringing him on with 10-men, battling away, would have been the right sub.

He’ll have his moments here and there but I expect to see him much more next season.

Yes games haven't quite fallen for him don't think we will see him at turf moor either but hopefully for our next home game

Excellent use of the dark arts yesterday.

Go down on the floor and receive treatment to allow Heggem to go off the pitch and get some treatment.

When Heggem arrives back onto the pitch all bandaged up, style put the move by putting the gloves back on slowly  :D

Yes was genius. Stud issue to get a new boot brilliant

After a promising cameo he hasn't had a sniff. I imagine he won't see much game time v Burnley either. Think at home he's worth a go in the number 10 role

Nice to see his tactics and ideas coming over by having more sessions with the players. Still not convinced he has his best team yet. Armstrong up front along doesn't work. I feel confident that if we didn't get promoted that he has a good crop of young players and when a few more old heads leave in summer he can continue to build and grow his side

His run and pass as good as won us the game via the penalty it lead too. Hopefully mowbray can keep working with him. It's nice that the club have sellable assets

15
I know he scored the penalty, but he really doesn't do anything if he isn't scoring, and again didn't look likely today.

Hopefully, today will give him some confidence to push on.

Agreed. Be tempted to start with lankshear at turf Moore and see if he can hold it up.hes not a loan striker he's like Grant he's a secondary forward. Maja different level all together

Looks a very astute signing. The type of player profile we should be signing young hungry and clearly on an upward trajectory we will get a good amount for him before he plays 100 games for us. Long term this is mowatts replacement. He and molumby in cm must be a nightmare for opposition. So much energy and tenacity

We never really got going in an attacking sense. We haven't quite got our best team sorted. Armstrong is very much a non entity when he's a lone striker. You put Maja in front of that midfield and we would be a very different prospect.

Second half we fought for everything and really dug in. Price and molumby were excellent. Bartley and Heggem also did very well. Diakite also made some key interventions in his little cameo. 2 clean sheets now at home. Mowbray slowly getting there. Hopefully we can get a positive result against Burnley but it's very much a free hit.

After Leeds game we need to follow up and get 3 points. I would start Fellows and Bany with Johnston and really go after these.

.massive point very much goes in the good draw section. Out problem this season has been we have too many bad draws.

Thought the defence did well and we defended from the front. Price and Johnston were excellent. Mowbray got it tactically spot on. Better finishing from swift and a better first touch from Fellows and the game could have been different (although for measure they hit the bar twice so perhaps a fair result)

Need to follow this up with a win v qpr

Hopefully nothing to serious can't fault his efforts unfortunately time has caught up with him.

Sometimes things like this are a blessing as it takes an option a way from the manager.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: Tony Mowbray appointed as Head Coach
« on: February 16, 2025, 05:58:14 PM »
Taking this all in perspective. In the summer we lost; Kipre, Okay, Townsend, BTA, Phillips who were all first teamers we have since lost Palmer and Maja has gotten injured. We have brought in younger hungrier players and brought the wage bill down.

This summer we have a chance to get rid of Swift, Diangana & Ajayi. We should try get shot of the likes of Cole & Frambotta if we arent going to use them. Mowbray needs to get through to summer so he can finish his rebuild.

Mowbray will find his system and his personnel, it's slowly getting there. We still lack a specialist left back. Eventually he will know diakite is his mulumbu and that Fellows and MJ have to play or we have no threat. This season was always a free hit and it still is. Yes mowbray has 2 wins in 6. But the team only have 11 wins in 33. They really aren't that good collectively- carrying too many bits of deadwood. Keep the faith.

My team for this one is;

               Wildmsith
Furlong Ajayi Holgate Heggem
        Molumby Diakite
    Fellows Grant Johnston
             Armstrong

Bench: Griffiths, Frambotta, Mowatt, wallace, Diangana, Bany (if available if not Lankshear) Dike.

Wouldn't have swift in the squad. You could argue for styles on bench over frambotta but would rather a specialist defender.

Mulumbu and Yak were hardly Xavi and Iniesta but they did amazing at screening the defence so others could create, sadly now our only creativity is out wide or on the bench (fellows / Johnston)
Swift is supposed to be the midfield creativity but he checked out at the end of last season, he is walking his contract out and needs sending to the stiffs in my opinion.

If you play with a base of molumby and diakite it allows us to play Fellows Grant and Johnston off Armstrong. Which until Maja or Dike are fully match fit is about as good as it gets.

Diakite was probably only second to wildsmith today. He had another good game.

2 more points to avoid relegation 17 to guard against any penalties for breach of FSR. On to the next one and hope mowbray is closer to stumbling across his team
