The subs worked tonight; Swift  Wallace and Dobbin all played their best games for us. They gave us some impetus just when we needed it.
Maja really off it tonight but it ultimately made no difference.
Both goals from shots outside the box, which is something we've been reluctant to do generally.
Pleased with the 3 points and now onto Watford.

I have to concede to Zippy, I somehow missed the first 4 words of the article ..I'm blaming enlarging it on my phone to read it.
The article does indeed mention a specific amount of games and not just losses in the league as a whole.

Or what is factually correct
I get that some are lauding it has a “very hard to heart” run,but some of the draws look a lot better if we chuck in. Just 2 or 3 more wins..
But factually the posters numbers were incorrect.

The numbers aren't factually correct. 19-2 =17. Basic maths and also factual.
The original post referred to Juventus being unbeaten in the league this season  I posted how many times we'd been unbeaten in our league this season...a like for like comparrison.

Except
We lost at home to Middlesbrough,so unbeaten in 11 is the current number .
Not too sure why it needs to be dressed up as anything ,we are 1 win in 13 ,that’s poor .

Not dressing it up as anything. We've played 19  lost 2 therefore we've been unbeaten in 17.
Agreed 1 win in 13 is poor but 2 defeats all season isn't.

He'll be reappointed by the end of the season..

I'm not so sure, the little bits and pieces I've read suggest it is his decision to leave.

The key word being “unbeaten”
It’s not a straight comparison

We've played 19 matches and lost only 2 so "unbeaten" in 17.

I didn't know that Hegel was playing at CB but there is no doubt that his contribution  from "metaphysical issues in epistemology and ontology, to political philosophy, the philosophy of history, philosophy of art, philosophy of religion, and the history of philosophy" will have a great influence on the defence's sense of self worth.  Whether he has any views on launching the ball into the contested area front line or playing  "tippy-tappy" from the back is something that Wikipaedia does not tell me. :D

Made me laugh anyway!

Listened to it on the radio and have watched highlights (mainly just the goals).

Comedy defending for both goals we conceded. Could Palmer have done better for the 1st? Heggem and Bartley culpable for the second but poor defending all round.

Great to see us finally use the height we have to our advantage at a corner, lovely header from Heggem and Fellows showing that if you shoot sometimes you can get lucky.

Sounded like over the whole 90+ minutes we were the better side.

Johnston was busy and getting back to the player we had last season; Fellows beginning to show he can be a lot more than a 1 trick pony. Grant his usual hard working performance, pity he couldn't have got on the end of the Styles shot/cross at 1-0.

A much brighter performance.

The simple answer is that even during a transitional period which we were in last year also , you would expect better results than we have amassed so far, better use of the options available to him and evolution rather than stagnation which is where we are?
Agreed, but that where the need for patience comes in.

I don’t think there are many that don’t appreciate are in a better place than when he came, most agree that he has improved us over the last two seasons.
But that doesn’t mean he’s been perfect and this season finding wins is more difficult than it should be compounded by strange selections ,in game management and refusal to see the issues that everyone else can.
Doesn’t mean I do t see the longer term strategy it means I can’t see him being in place if we don’t start an upward trajectory rather than the current bore draw slide to mediocrity…and the people that invest the £’s will probably have similar thoughts .
The board (or people that invest the £s) said at the start of the season that we are in a transitional period and Corberan is a big part of that and more importantly that fans need to be patient ...which is where I think your argument falls down. You are not showing patience.
The board have said they expect us to be challengingfor promotion and we are...why would they sack a manager that is achieving what they expect?

Apparently my Wolves mate said they have interviewed him and that if O'Neil is sacked he thinks Carlos will be there to replace him, Apparently Carlos hasn't denied this either and said it happened before focusing on the Sheffield United game. I really hope this is Bull

I think your Wolves mate is talking utter nonsense. Why would Carlos deny something that didn't happen?

Deal and not before time....... 000000....... there you go. Thank you for your consideration in taking one for the greater good. With luck and a fair wind the ground can keep it's traditional name of The Hawthorns. Should save on changing letterheads, road signs and maps to the Drawthorns. Best six zeros I never spent. COYB  8) .

Yes I realised my error after I'd posted and switched my phone off! Obviously I want a number larger than zero followed by 6 zeros!

So nooooow we know who's responsible for the less than inspiring home results. And to think people have been pointing the finger at Carlos. The truth always (or nearly always) comes out in the end Jonah  ;) .
I could be persuaded to avoid the remaining home fixtures for a not inconsiderable fee....something with 6 zeros would soften the blow.

We are definitely going to win as I can't make it  as I'm going to see The Damned in Leeds. The last home game I missed was the 4-1 over Blackburn last season.

Corberan giving his reasons for playing Dobbin at Sunderland and Preston (from Lewis Cox in E&S)

"West Brom boss Carlos Corberan explains a lack of minutes for Lewis Dobbin - until now
Carlos Corberan admitted the form of others and a change in transfer plans affected Lewis Dobbin - but the on-loan winger has "grown" and is now showing his value to Albion.

Dobbin, 21, switched Villa Park for The Hawthorns on a season-long loan deal shortly after making a £10million summer transfer from Everton to Villa.

But the winger had to kick his heels waiting for an opportunity for the Championship side as Karlan Grant and Mikey Johnston both ahead in the pecking order.

It is understood Corberan, who has a healthy relationship with fellow Spanish boss Unai Emery and the hierarchy at Villa Park, made a play for a loan for Dobbin and the temporary switch was finally confirmed on August 6.

Later that month, however, the goalposts moved in terms of Albion's financial capabilities during the summer window and a £3million deadline day signing for last season's loan star Mikey Johnston from Celtic was made possible. Johnston, too, has had to bide his time owing to the sensational form of Karlan Grant this term. Grant has returned from a loan at Cardiff in revitalised form.

Corberan has started to see more from Dobbin in recent weeks and that has been proved by a full second-half appearance at Sunderland last week and a first Albion league start at Preston last Saturday.

"When you sign one player on loan it means the player needs the loan to grow," Corberan told the Express & Star when asked about Dobbin's lack of action. "He had a loan in Derby County in League One two years ago.

"He was playing some minutes in the Premier League last year with Everton, Aston Villa signed him and we moved on this because the idea at the time was an important loan, but let's say our possibilities at the market changed and this fact made us decide to bring in Johnston. Bringing one more winger affected the wingers we had in the squad. This is normal.

"It (Johnston) was a move probably not more for the short-term needs but more for the long-term project of the club.

"One of the players affected by this is Dobbin. Another thing was he arrived late in the market, the week before we played QPR in the first game. In this moment, when the player doesn't make a pre-season with you, he has a challenge with the competition."

Grant, meanwhile, had returned from a season in south Wales more motivated than ever to make it work in the Black Country and this was noticed in pre-season. It has continued into the campaign and four-goal Grant has been a mainstay of the side and one of Albion's players of the season so far.

"I saw Grant giving an unbelievable step," Corberan continued. "Taking the chance and not giving the chance to anyone. If we add that Dobbin is more comfortable on the left, and we bring Johnston too, it makes it more difficult for Dobbin to have minutes he needs.

"But after, for me, I never make an opinion that you can move off the players. You have a responsibility to open your eyes to see what the players are doing. The level of Grant has been excellent. Did I expect this? I didn't have expectation. But I saw a player who took responsibility to change his form and situation in this club. You have to have a lot of personality to make this, it is not easy, and commitment to football skills. He showed this."

Dobbin spurned a chance to win the game at Sunderland two Tuesdays ago and pleased Corberan with his first-half showing at Preston last time out.

The Spaniard sees Dobbin's strengths better suited to physical 'man-to-man' defences, whereas Republic of Ireland international Johnston suits running from deep with dribbling qualities.

"Dobbin is still a young player," added the head coach. "But what I watched with Dobbin is that he is growing. The amount of minutes he is having right now is increasing. Why? Because I am seeing his level increasing too. In every training I am watching what they are doing, every time they are on the pitch I am watching what they are doing.

"And after, when you make the first XI decision and the bench, you have to understand which type of context the game is, what is the player that his strengths are better for the game we expect?

"In the games the other day I've seen the man-to-man physical contact be important to attack. In this body contact I thought Johnston is not in his best condition and this is not his maximum strength.

"Dobbin helped the team with this body contact, with space in behind, he feels comfortable. So depending on the needs you give more or less minutes. On how the player is using it you give more or less minutes. Now Dobbin has arrived to a time where he is more useful for us than in the beginning because even without minutes he has shown good growing."

I think there is a middle ground on both.

Asking supporters what they expect?

Most supporters will have expected more than four goals at home this season (two of those in one game btw) and a bit more than bore draws against the likes of Plymouth, Cardiff, Millwall.

The financial parameters are no excuses for our performances at home and are reflective of their coaching (or over coaching) as some may call it. Our record for goals scored at home this season is the lowest in the football league.

I do also want to see the manager making the most of Maja and Fellows who between them have 10 goals and 8 assists. They are by far our most productive assets and I'm not sure management of them both is where I would expect it to be. The constant withdrawal after 65 minutes and as we seen on Saturday, Fellows being shunted to left wing back is affecting us going forwards.

Do I think he has done a great job given the on-going turmoil at the club? Yes, I do. He has worked wonders.

Do I want him sacked? No, I don't.

Do I think he is at times too conservative which hamstrings us? Yes, I think he is.

Our very conservative nature is a reflection of the head coach moreso than the pressures we're facing in the boardroom.

Good job we beat them then!

Totally agree with the rest of your post though!

Figures from Transfermarkt,

https://www.transfermarkt.com/championship/einnahmenausgaben/wettbewerb/GB2/plus/0?ids=a&sa=&saison_id=2022&saison_id_bis=2024&nat=&pos=&altersklasse=&w_s=&leihe=&intern=0

show expenditure related to transfers from season 23/24 until now, that we are 25th out of 30 teams on the level of expenditure. We spent in this period 4.7m euros. Burnley spent 161m euros Birmingham 41m euros and Cardiff over double our expenditure. Despite this we are 7th.

It is widely accepted that expenditure goes hand in hand with league position. Clubs with higher spending tend to have bigger squads, more expensive signings, and arguably better depth. So, when we are 7th despite spending so little, it speaks volumes about tactical efficiency, coaching, and other factors beyond just the size of the transfer budget.

What do fans expect? If Pep had the lowest spend in the Prem do you think they would win the league most years? CC job his hard enough. Its Lai that fans should be inebriated with not CC.

Maybe fans would prefer if our season ticket prices matched some of the teams above us, giving us more spending potential. Only Burnley’s are cheaper. I suspect there would be even more gripes if management decided to do that.

I agree with all that however it doesn't mean that I can't criticise Corberan for the playing style at the moment, or the fact that he subs off Maja and replaces him with a winger/wide forward when there is a centre forward/striker on the bench. His subs affect our shape and nullify our attacking intent.
No comfort from that mate, as it stands they are the worst teams in the league, and despite a couple of the scorelines we did'nt beat any of them "comfortably" IMVHO

maybe no comfort for you, but they weren't the worst sides in the league when we beat them.

I thought we beat Plymouth quite comfortably, we were a lick of paint away from being 3 or 4 up at half time.
Against Swansea we should have had 3 or 4 with Fellows and Racic missing easy chances...Racic missed 2 easy chances.

Whether we comfortably beat someone is meaningless in regards to the result, I'd argue in the 2 games we've lost we weren't comfortably beaten either so it's swings and roundabouts really.

I never hoped for, expected , or even desired promotion this season, but wins against only Stoke, Swansea and the bottom 4 teams in the league, is not good enough.
Much improvement is required or he will be sacked
They weren't bottom 4 when we beat them though.
As 79 says, Corberan won't be sacked this season..the owners have said that we are in for a difficult transitional period and fans need to be patient ( good luck with that) and that Corberan is a part of that.
