West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: Carlos Corberan
« on: December 02, 2024, 02:26:44 PM »
Have been listening to Albion analysis and I agree with the guys on there I think Carlos is going to go back to basics and I think the football is about to become very stale. For his sake he needs to pick up results if we play this way as if we start loosing & the football gets more tedious his position is going to become untenable.

We do look very imbalanced at the moment, when we open up & attack teams we look very vulnerable to conceding at the other end of the pitch (Norwich, Cardiff, Shef Weds to name a few) to counter this Carlos has set the team up with a more cautious approach but then we loose any attacking threat going forward.

Yokuslu has been a big miss & a player we didn’t properly replace in the summer, I’d start giving Diakete a chance at defensive midfield as see if the lads started adjusting to the speed of championship football, that would allow us to push Mowatt further forward & either drop a swift / Diangana or have Maja drop deeper and play a 10 role with Grant running in behind.

Yes this isn’t a great run & the football isn’t pretty but we’d be mad to get rid of cc surely.

Reduction in wage bill will mean less quality in the team & we are still fighting for playoffs. Carlos needs to look at his tactics to make us more attacking but the hierarchy would be absolutely mad to get rid of him.

Who do you replace him with? Robbins (good job at Cov but did no better than CC), no-one else out there who’d it take over from Carlos, we’d be mad to get rid of him.

Just got back that was one of the most entertaining games I’ve seen up the Albion in years especially the 1st half. Credit to both teams they really went for it & you could tell the’d punched each other out & were dead on their feet in the last 10 minutes.

Thought Karlan Grant was absolutely phenomenal, Maja, Heggem, Styles & Fellows all impressed me also.

You can see Wallace’s confidence is shot to pieces, he was absolutely dreadful when he came on. Worryingly the subs made us far weaker when they came on.

Any reason why Palmer is missing and Bellingham (who did turn out) is included?

Some of these "Galacticos" only seem to able to operate when surrounded by their foreign counterparts.  This performance seems to justify producing a team with a contingent of players who have been coached together from the Under-19s onwards.

I was more making reference to those players as they started most of the Euro’s & looked very unbalanced & clearly hadn’t figured out how to play with each other. I think it just goes to show we are going to have to leave some star names on the bench & start an Anthony Gordon or Curtis Jones over a Phil Foden, Cole Palmer etc.  to make the side more balanced than the one that played the majority of the Euro’s.

I thought England were very impressive against a good Greece team who have a decent home record. Thought we looked far more like a coherent team to the one that played in the summer.

I think a few of those that dropped out to injury might be ruing that decision when it comes to future squads as I have every faith Tuchel will have also picked up on the fact that England’s big name players (Foden, Kane, Bellingham, Saka, Rice) have issues when they all start in the same team as each other.

Great centre-forward, not great broadcaster - in common with many ex-footballers.

I respect your opinion but in my view I think he’s one of if not the best broadcasters out there. As Hampshire baggies above  said it’s difficult to make presenting easy, he’s been the face of the nations flagship sports show for 25 years. All the more impressive when you think he probably has no qualifications or training in broadcast journalism having been a top professional footballer. I can’t think of many others who have had 2 iconic career’s in their lifetime.

I think the blokes fairly remarkable to be honest, he’s fronted match of the day for 25 years I think the guy would have to go down as a sports broadcast icon. Even more remarkable is the fact he’s done that in broadcasting after scoring 331 goals in professional football & is Englands fourth highest goal scorer.

Very happy with a win & hopefully that gives us abit of confidence going forward but my god we made hard work of it. Hull are a massive relegation candidate for me having seen them twice now, some of our ball retention in the last 20 minutes was dire.

Still the 3 points are very welcome & needed.

Looking back on it I thought we were lucky to come away with a point from that. It’s a good job Sarmiento is more focused on doing fancy flicks & stepovers in the middle of the pitch than he is shooting at goal as he should have buried both the 1 on 1 & the one he hit the post with, nevermind the awful decision that went against Anthony for the goal.

We looked very laboured again for large parts of the game especially 2nd half. I do think Corberan may have a solution I’d like to see a front 4 of Maja, Grant, Johnstone & Dobbin on Sunday. He played it for 10 mins last night until Maja came off & it was noticeable that we looked more threatening with Grant running in behind & Mikey on the wing.

I thought Grant was superb & Styles impressed with the ball at his feet. Swift was awful, I wonder if Mowatt is injured as he was very poor.

I think Corberan will be able to get the better of Parker & be able to nullify Burnley’s attack but they still possess the quality to be able to produce something from nothing. We’l get 1 or 2 decent opportunities we have to take them.

Too intricate, too many touches & not enough chaos created in the box. We also look far more vulnerable at the back & we are easily cut open.

Racic was a positive though, he was at the heart of everything we did well.

1 goal in 4 games isn’t good enough however you want to look at it. I love the bloke but we are starting to border Val territory of stubbornness with Carlos. The system isn’t creating enough clear cut goal scoring opportunities,we have averaged under 1 XG for 3 games running now.

A change of system, playing style & personnel is needed. We play walking football at the back because the 2 cb’s he’s stuck with all season arent great passers of the ball, we’ve also got a centre half playing left back in Heggem. Fellows has been pretty poor for a few weeks now as had Jed all season but both are still getting in ahead of Dobbin, no back up striker on the bench again.

We seem to lack a real identity of play style which is very worrying, the subs & decisions at times have been baffling to say the least. I still love the guy & I think he will get it right eventually but I agree Carlos should start shouldering some of the burden with the decisions he’s made recently.

That one is more on the players than Corberan for me. We were so frustratingly sloppy at times & when it came to every big moment we made either the wrong choice or mis-placed an easy pass. Fellows not shooting, Grady not shooting, Grady not been able to play an easy ball to put Grant in 1 on 1, Wallace not playing Grant in & then his cross getting cut out, Palmer shanking his kick to give them the throw.

Jed Wallace needs some time in the stands I’d like to see Dobin come on over Jed now, he’s been bloody awful this season & shouldn’t be ahead of Dobbin, Mikey & Styles at the moment.

Grant man of the match, was superb again.

Haven’t been good enough to win the game again for the 4th game in a row. Becoming a concerning run of results & performances now.

We’ve been guilty of trying to walk the ball in the net at times both Grady & Fellows should have pulled the trigger.

Grant pick of the bunch, Racic & Maja also very good. Hopefully we can get a 2nd early on 2nd half & kill them off.

2 years with a further year on appearances / clubs favour is a great deal for the club. Very glad he’s re-signed for me he’s made the most improvement of anyone under Carlos however the thought of been stuck with him on high wages at 32, 33 wasn’t appealing.

Tuchel named boss, madness

Not really for me, he’s a better manager than any of the potential available English candidates. I couldn’t give a monkeys what nationality he is as long as he wins a trophy with England.

Really really poor that, miles off it first half & then to drag ourselves back in it to then concede 2 minutes later from our own mistakes is really shocking, I have no idea what Swift was attempting to do for the 3rd giving the ball away at the edge of our own box.

The defending has been awful, I’d have either Bartley or Ajayi off at HT for Holgate who will help with us playing out from the back. The midfield 2 were shocking although Diakete grew a little bit as the half went on, I’d get Racic off for Molumby. Johnstone for Grant needs to also happen.

Shocking, half hearted attempt that 1st half. I hope the Albion fan’s o.k as well, if it’s a medical emergency the ref should have stopped the game.

If reports are to be believed Molumby maybe struggling for tomorrow & Racic is set to come in. I think this could be the start of Racic been a permanent member of the starting 11, would be harsh on Molumby who’s not put a foot wrong but I think this Racic could be a step above in quality.

So long as we keep Corberan & have no major injuries we are going to challenge those top 2 places this year. First half not great but completely dominant 2nd half, thought Racic looked very classy when he came on.

I’m bloody excited by this team, we have it all

Had the better chances & could be 2 up bar a great save from their keeper but we are miles off Portsmouth’s intensity and have no real control in the game.
