Berihino deserves a pat on the back. Played for the team tonight in a defensive first role. It will make him a better player for it in the end.

Hard to understand why he has been so overlooked recently. Give him that job to do..what we bought him for in the first place and there aren't many too much better in the league. Had he a bit more pace then he would be absolute top drawer.

Brunt was, by and large, terrible.

Shouldn't that be excellent? Executed the coach's game plan to the letter. Will be remembered as a great club man. Hopefully he'll see out his career as a baggie and become a remembered player and club servant.

Daft lad..had his head turned by the money. Im pretty sure thats not what inspired him to become a footballer. He would be in and around our first team quite possibly by now. His career may well go the way of many others seduced in this way.

I must be the only guy in the country who doesn't find him annoying.

He will be pleased about that then everyone needs at least one fan....... :D

Hopefully Michael Owen of BT next for the chop.

Hope not. Personally think his commentary is usually insightful and to the point.

What exactly does Paul Jewell bring? Can't say I've been awestruck by any of his sides up to now.
I hope we have at least someone on the training staff that will help develop players technical skills.

A fair enough point but im not sure Pulis is in to player development. Think hes more interested in results. Probably just thinks Jewell is a good man manager and motivator

Wonder if Irvine has been stood in his back garden all afternoon staring at his watch?

......in his trackies winter coat and boots. Nice bloke very sincere but not tough enough or experienced enough at PL level. Never was going to be.

Times change, what was considered good enough a few seasons ago isn't now.

To judge a coach then you look at players. Has the individual shooting, passing of indivdiual players improved or declined ? Have free-kicks or corners improved under the current coaching set up ? Has the goalkeeping coach improved the current keepers ?

For me the answer is no. Nothing personal against the coaching staff but they have not improved the players how coaches should.

Time for change. I'm not sure Downing or Kiely will go at this stage but I would expect to see more change in the Summer when Pulis has looked at the who set up and has his feet under the table.

Quite correct. Even the most myopic baggies fan could see the individual improvement in players under good old Roy. morrison was a revelation for example. wheres all that gone since?

Will you look at that Keith....a thing of beauty......a 5.4 litre supercharged convertable Jag in metallic red with white leather trim. You gotta love this job old son. By the way what are you planning to do in the future?

Mcauley has to play for me. Although im possibly a minority voice I have always believed Brunty is better in a central role for his passing abiity. Im not one of the Brunty boo boy im afraid.

But aren't the Newcastle fans the best judges?  :-X

The Pardew out campaign has about 200 supporters worldwide!! And that came from the bloke who organised it. A complete and utter numbskull. True NUFC fans must have cringed with embarrassment.

See Irvine is spouting the same old rubbish at this afternoons presser. "Everyones fit"...... (good good go on al).....but lets not expect too much from some of the players as they are STILL behind the rest.....and so on. Doh!!......and you were doing so well Al. But not to worry im sure they'll all stay fit for the rest of the season and we'll have 40  points by February.

Agreed, but didn't we already try that with Pepe Mel?

With the squad we now have (once they are match fit), a decent coach with passion could do very well for us.  There were and are plenty of them around who would fit the bill.  Pay compensation if necessary.  Sherwood was NOT the answer.   It is the most important appointment in the club, and as JP well knows we can't afford to keep getting it wrong.

Nigel Adkins was the type of appointment who would have fitted the bill perfectly.

Was Pepe ever given a fair chance it could be argued? At least he appeared to have some idea about how to play attractive football. I'm not sure even now the club have a clear direction about footballing style.

If we want to be anything other than a great footballing side this club turns it's back on our legacy and joins those clubs who only care about dancing to Sky's tune. I want to be in the best league playing our best football. Like I said before if football no longer becomes about entertainment there is no need for us to be there.

You want more fans and a bigger stadium, you play good football. You want to be a world known club, you play good football in the best league. You want to come back every Saturday, regardless of result, happy and entertained, you play good football. You want to attract the best players you play good football. The fact that John Walters, Alan Hutton and Stuart Downing being linked with us was met with widespread anger shows we care about who plays for our club.

I personally agree with your sentiment psalm. But truth in this day and age seems that to be that as long as the team is winning people are appeased. Most fun I've had at the Hawthorns in recent years was the promotion under RDM. Attacking football with flair. Do we have the budget to reproduce it at the higher level. It seems on the face of it not.

If Pulis comes to this club I'll give my season ticket away. If your only concern is staying in this league at the expense of any entertaining football you can't sit and slate the chairman for his actions. I want to watch my team play well and winning games come from that, not play badly but efficiently.

Anyone who wants Pulis at this club needs to really consider why they follow us.

If we were in the championship id say yes psalm but the current malaise needs urgent attention. In that respect a really strong manager like pulis would likely pull things together just as Roy did. I mean I didnt think it was that pretty under Roy but competing in the PL is no easy task. Swansea should be the playing model we aiming for imo but that would take time to develop. That could be the question. What do we want to be? A great footballing side or a PL survivour?

Couldnt agree more adder. If Mel had been allowed to bring his own team in from the start things may have turned out different. I mean it was the players who rebelled wasnt it.So the question was Who exactly was in charge? Look at LVG at  Utd. No one is going to rock his ship are they?

Anyone. There are people applying for the Leeds job. He'll be gone by 9 pm the Sunday of the Burnley game. I'm hoping there is an emergency meeting occurring as I type!!!

Agree. If a coach is what he wants then fine but we need a younger man imo. Shame the Mel experiment failed. Some good coaches overseas I suspect.

Playing in a poor side at the minute but usually really good players usually stand out in any team. Needs a fair crack. Can't see it under this coaching team.

If this result came before the Swansea one, I think people would be saying things like we were unlucky, individual errors cost us, could have gone differently.

Obviously that's no excuse. We weren't good enough. But I think there are some massive knee jerk reactions on here.

Knee jerk? Four games 1 goal. Dreadful overall. How can that be surely.

Yeah well done Alan for you awful clearance and dreadful goalkeeping error.

Its his job to coach and motivate so that doesn't happen! We're going backwards despite our best transfer window for some time
