West Bromwich Albion FC / Josh Maja
« on: August 01, 2023, 10:05:17 AM »
Express and Star reporting Maja signing is imminent. They claim he had a medical yesterday.

https://www.expressandstar.com/sport/football/west-bromwich-albion/2023/08/01/west-brom-close-in-on-striker-josh-maja-free-transfer/

"Albion are closing in on the free transfer of former Sunderland and Bordeaux striker Josh Maja.
The 24-year-old underwent a medical at the Albion's training ground in Walsall yesterday and an announcement of his addition is likely to be imminent.

Maja checks in after his departure from French Ligue 2 outfit Bordeaux, who he called time on four-and-a-half years with at the end of his contract earlier this summer. The London-born striker netted 16 goals in 38 appearances last term as his side missed out on promotion back to the top tier.

Maja is a long-term target of the club and seen as a coup by Albion in the context of working against their current financial backdrop. Bordeaux were keen to retain his services this summer and there was a host of Championship interest, including from Middlesbrough and Sheffield Wednesday. Rangers were also linked earlier in the window.

The frontman adds crucial competition to Carlos Corberan's frontline at The Hawthorns. The Spanish head coach had only Brandon Thomas-Asante as an available senior striker to call on at his disposal with Albion's Championship campaign kicking off at Blackburn on Saturday. Fellow striker Daryl Dike (Achilles) is sidelined with injury until the end of 2023.

Maja rose to prominence at Sunderland, where he broke through into senior ranks having played junior football at Fulham and Crystal Palace. It was with the Black Cats where 15 goals in 24 League One outings earned Maja a bumper move to France on a lengthy deal for a fee worth up to £3.5million having just turned 20.

He had a mixed time overseas but departed this summer with a goal record of 29 in 93 games, either side of loans with Fulham, where he scored goals in the top flight, and at Stoke – with the latter he managed just one goal in 15 Championship games in 2021/22.

Maja's arrival comes as a timely pre-season boost for Albion, who are working under tight financial restraints due to a lack of investment and parachute payments.

It is believed Corberan is still looking to bolster his forward ranks after Maja joined Brighton loanee Jeremy Sarmiento in Baggies colours, with FC Midtjylland's Sory Kaba, who spent last season with Cardiff, a target."

West Bromwich Albion FC / Albion Tackle Crowd Behaviour
« on: July 31, 2023, 05:09:15 PM »
Some new measures for next season across all football (including fans behaviour).

https://www.wba.co.uk/news/albion-tackle-participant-and-crowd-behaviour-ahead-new-season

"Ahead of the start of the new season we want to make you aware of new measures being taken across all of football to help ensure football remains safe and enjoyable for all.

We are backing the introduction of strong measures across the professional and grassroots game to help improve the behaviour of players, managers and coaches on the pitch, and aiming to address the unacceptable issue of football tragedy abuse in the stands.

Under the new participant charter, match officials will be empowered to take more robust action, while the players will receive cards for any confrontation, surrounding or invasion of the match officials’ personal space. Our academy scholars will also undertake refereeing courses to improve players’ education into officiating.

To challenge the totally unacceptable presence of football tragedy abuse, for season 2023/24, regulation changes and tough new measures have been introduced which will see people who are found guilty of offences face stadium bans and criminal prosecution.

This builds on measures to address dangerous and illegal crowd behaviour which were introduced last year and continue through the 2023/24 season including bans and reports to the police for activity such as entering the pitch without permission, carrying or using smoke bombs or pyrotechnics and throwing objects - as well as drug use and discriminatory behaviour.

These acts are dangerous, illegal and have severe consequences. They have no place in football, or anywhere.

Football should be a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone in the stadium whether on the pitch, on the line or in the stands. We thank you for your support this season."

West Bromwich Albion FC / Fixtures 2022/23
« on: June 20, 2022, 08:32:57 AM »
With the fixtures due to be released on Thursday, who do you want up first?

I'd like Hull away for obvious reasons. Norwich away would also be okay as it would get a long journey out of the way! Swansea or Cardiff would be decent too as we usually play them midweek and it'd be good to make a weekend of it.

I'm sure I read in Brummie Mail that we're likely to be away due to Commonwealth games, anyone know if this is true or just guesswork?

West Bromwich Albion FC / The Lord's My Shepherd photo exhibition
« on: May 23, 2019, 09:33:54 AM »
Don't know if anyone is interested but there is an exhibition of photos of fans at The Vine on Sunday 3-5pm.
The photos were taken before the Millwall away game (or it might have been Brentford) as we were waiting for the coaches.

To be honest the photos have been up for a while so if you've been to The Vine recently you may have seen them already in the outside space.

It's got nothing to do with me, I just thought I'd let people know.

There is a photo of me in there too!

Just to let you know that if you are driving to Blackburn on New Years Day that parking in the council run car parks is free on bank holidays.

I've put a link below. Please note that Fielden St Multi Storey won't be open on New years Day but all the others will.
