West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: Express and Star Albion Reporter
« on: August 08, 2021, 10:58:54 PM »
Over the years I have been Press Secretary to both rugby and cricket clubs, often paid expenses. I had cover in local papers but some years back they stopped using my efforts because they were reducing staff and cutting costs. I did some local reporting for the BBC which was done for nothing but did get my club reasonable coverage.
Local papers do not have a dedicated Sports Editor so less sport for readers as it saves them money.
The quality of coverage is not as good as it used to be 30 years ago because some reporters used to become specialists in sport and nothing else hence the lower quality.

Watching on TV you get a far better view than the ref so i can see how he missed it. Try refereeing as most local leagues are short.

leis WBA. I can assure you a baseball pitcher certainly does make the ball move in the air just as a cricket bowler uses the seam and his fingers.

Maybe he will find a better keeping coach who sort out his shortcomings.

Baseball is a very skillful sport. The batters hit a ball quite often further than a cricket batsman hits a cricket ball. If you have never watched a game then your comment is unfair.

The PEARS keeps cropping up. The club has never adopted the word. As I once wrote, "The only place you can find pears in Worcestershire is in a garden or a greengrocers.

I feel a shamed to hear  English supporters booing any countries National Anthem and then continue booing when the game started.

I have said for years that players spend time in training to get fouls. I cannot name a particular England player for many reasons, but he has it off to a fine art. One of the well known former refs said of this player, "He goes down too easily" I also think that when a player pushes a ball past an opponent and  runs into him he usually draws a foul. He does this deliberately. There is no law in football that suggests the player has to get out of his way.

Jacko "The rub of the green" is a golfing term which roughly means "bad luck if your last shot  landed somewhere that is not helpful"

I don't think Grealish will get so many free kicks from foreign referees.

Not a very good spectacle. Only one batsman in form with the rest poor. A one man band that produced very poor  music.
Conway 136[ the rest scored 110 which included Nicholls 46. I dozed off once or twice.
I had no complaints about our bowlers.

Well done Leicester. An amazing game with Casper in top form. I can't remember the Chelsea keeper making a save.

I nearly fell asleep watching Selby. Top player, but he is using gamesmanship to perfection. I would have loved seeing him play Alex Higgins because "warfare" would have taken place. Verbally and possibly physically.

Good idea. i lost money on the Grand National but took money off Wm Hill. I had 2 bets on the Chelsea match. I backed them to draw and to win. With the price at at 14-1, as they would say in the Black Country-"I woz loffin"
I still think we could survive.

I don't think any of our batsmen would  have fared better. Broad would have been out inside 3 balls.
There is no doubt there should be concern for the quality of the wickets in every game so far.

Don't forget our wickets are not designed for spinners as those in the middle east. I think the wicket in Chennai should have been subject to a report.

I have read online that the yearly number of deaths in the OK, before Covid started, has usually been around 600,000.

Here we go again. Everyone appears to know everything about Diange but how often have they seen him play?

Re ANDERSON. How can anyone criticise him? It makes a change from the usual unkind remarks about anyone connected with WBA.

I was a mused by Dean Smith saying that the Man U player tripped himself up to get the penalnty. POT AND BLACK. Grealish goes down if a puff of wind touches him.
