West Bromwich Albion FC / Re: Carlos Corberan

I've defended him in the past and i will still maintain he is the one to take us forward but he got so much wrong today.

I can understand going with Wallace after the Leicester game but by half time everyone could see it wasn't working but the change wasn't made until the game was pretty much done. Mowatt not starting for me was criminal, arguably along with Kipre our Player of the season and i am not convinced with M'Vila at all. Fellows starts all day for me over Phillips too.

I don't know if i am making this up either and the stats don't back it up but i feel like every time a team plays with 3 centre halves we just always seem to struggle. Like i say i am still sure he is the person to take us forward and i have given him a lot of credit for where we are considering some of the circumstances he has had to deal with but equally some of his decisions today were confusing to say the least.

I left just after the 3rd goal went in. Not one of them today were any good but special mentions to YM and CT who were terrible. I'm not at panic mode just yet (depending on what happens in this Hull game) but even if we do limp into the play offs i'm not expecting us to go to Leeds or Ipswich and compete after that.

some people really do have it in for certain players! Townsend does make positional mistakes but then is very good getting forward. You now want Reach in that position who has been lambasted ever since he came to the club!

3 assists in 40 games isn't great, even worse when comparing him to other left backs in the league. If Reach was beaten as easily as he was on Saturday this forum would have exploded.

Townsend cannot start for us again this season if we want to get promoted. Think everyone can see what I’ve said for a long time now; he’s terrible

I agree with this. He has had no real competition for as long as i can remember and i think that shows.

I certainly didn’t see any tactical genius today. Looked like we were playing for a 1-0 defeat as soon as we went down to 10 men.

I'm convinced you're on a wind up.

Results looked good for us tonight, but Preston on a roll??

Preston have to play Norwich, Southampton, Leicester and us so they will have to do well to get top 6. Win both our games this week and i 'think' that might be enough.

Start strong and then rest players if we are comfortable. If we have any chance in the play offs Rotheram at home needs to be a win. On Friday against Plymouth Sky Sports showed their stats and they were 24th for most things like shots, goals scored etc.

A frustrating game today, for sure. The performance, like the first half of Millwall, wasn't anywhere near the level, with the majority of the XI nowhere near their best.

However, I am finding it really difficult with large sections of 'fans' around my seat. I appreciate that the Albion can be a place to let off some steam from a week at work; and when there is time to give criticism at games, I'm one of the first. With our superb home record, I get the impression people just turn up and expect us to win, but teams like Watford are littered with Premier League players - they just lack consistency.

BTA has huge limitations as a footballer and he should have buried that one in the first half. Yet, even after he scored an excellent goal to get us back in the game, when he misplaced a simple ball, there were people swearing and screaming for him to be taken off. I'm also no Adam Reach fan but to boo an Albion player coming on, when we're 5th in the league? I find it really difficult to sit and listen to. Funnily enough, he actually played quite well.

Wondering if I am the only one here?

Mods: I tried to find a relevant thread but this may need moving?

I completely agree with this.

At one point yesterday Palmer had the ball waiting for movement and someone a couple rows in front of me was going crazy for him to kick the ball and hurry up, then as soon as he aimlessly kicked the ball up the field he went mad. We clearly have a way that CC wants us to play with passing it out from the back but as soon as we are losing i really find it frustrating to be there sometimes because some fans make it more nervous for the players with the constant groaning and shouting.

I promised myself to never fall in love with a loan player after Dwight Gayle but it's happened again. What a loan signing he has turned out to be, think we may be priced out now (or Celtic will want to keep him).

You must of watched a different game ,pipa looked far better than reach

I think both were about the same to be honest, i just prefer Reach defensively to Pipa. I think Pipa should have stopped the Willock cross for the second goal, let him come inside way too easily. If we ever played a 5 i'd be more inclined to give him a go but i think yesterday showed that we are heavily reliant on Townsend who i hope isn't out for too long.

Too many poor performances tonight from players who are usually a lot better. QPR are no mugs and showed that the weekend beating Leicester so i'm going to write tonight off as a point gained and hope for a better performance Sunday.

Really poor performance/selection tonight. I never want to see Reach or Pieters as the back left 2 ever again.

His poor selection and poor subs nearly cost us but we got a point and the hell out of dodge with it thankfully.

He's put in 2 of his worst performances both times Patel has been there. Maybe he just needs to clear his head and focus on the match over everything else.

I think his hands are tied with the left back position, Pipa came on and was just as bad and arguably should have been booked. The triple sub was very questionable but i was screaming for a change so i can't moan that it didn't work. I'm hoping we see Bartley and BTA back fit for Sunday because we desperately need them back.

I do also think we possibly went to a back 5 too early, could argue it just invited pressure.

I can't remember the last game i watched that was this one sided, no idea how we're winning.

I know it might be a bit harsh but i would bring Bartley back in on Wednesday. We looked a lot more calm with him on the pitch at the end of the Coventry game and his leadership was key.

Really excited for the new era. Would be great if they could get him out on the pitch before the game on Friday.

Came across this interesting article from someone on Twitter.

'Shilen Patel, former chief executive and owner of HealthAxis Group in Tampa, has confirmed to Tampa Bay Business and Wealth that he will acquire the West Bromwich Albion Football Club, a professional football club based in West Bromwich, West Midlands, England. A move that makes him the first Indian American to own a club in any of England’s top leagues.

Patel is an active early-stage and private equity investor, as well as the founder of multiple other enterprises. His investments range from small local startups to more visible and remote assets such as a minority stake in Bologna FC, a soccer team currently in 6th place in Italy’s top league, Serie A.

In his 2022 TBBW cover story, he expressed acquiring a controlling interest in a soccer team as another goal he wanted to achieve.

“I think your outlet was the first to report on that aspiration,” says Patel. “The seed had been planted for quite a while. It’s something that I’ve been thinking about for more than 20 years now. I have been evaluating opportunities around the world with different levels of interest, and West Brom is a perfect fit.”

It was confirmed in November that Baggies owner Guochuan Lai, who bought out Jeremy Peace in September 2016, was trying to sell the club, according to a report by the BBC.

“There’s an opportunity here. This club has most of what it needs to return to the Premier League where it has spent most of the last 2 decades,” Patel says.

This acquisition for Patel not only checks off a substantial business bucket list goal but also further expands his international footprint in the business world.

“I think [soccer] is unique compared to many other sports, which might be more regional or constrained to a handful of countries. I love that global aspect of it. I think my global perspective in business and our family’s international business and philanthropy can complement this project well,” Patel says. “SeediSucceeding in the sports business takes qualities I have been developing my entire career.  It requires long-term thinking and tremendous patience. It demands the ability to tolerate a lot of unpredictability and setbacks and reckon with forces beyond your control. Operating in an entrepreneurial environment for my whole career and constantly pushing against constraints to secure growth and success gives me the perspective, and the ability, to  bring pride and success to West Brom.”

It’s a new line of business for Patel, but he’s also excited about the community aspect of it and stewarding a club that fans will continue to rally behind.

“The fan community in West Bromwich and around the world is the heart and soul of the club. The fans have shown up and shown their support even in the toughest times,” Patel says. “A big part of our goal is to build the profile of the club and to build the reach of the club to be something that’s touching the whole world.”

There is a slight update on another article written on The Athletic today by Matt Slater. I don't have access but i think the update was along the lines of that senior officials want the American Consortium but the combo of Farnell/Hearn think they can get it done with Lai and are flying out to China next week to try and force through a deal.

I try not to go on twitter too much now but it's as if some fans don't realise the hole that we are in and how badly we need a takeover. I'm seeing people blast the club for not doing enough business in January and referencing other clubs, time to turn the phone off i think.

Smacks of utter rollocks to me.

I agree. I wouldn't be surprised if this has come from the man himself.

Am i right in thinking they are unbeaten since TM has taken over in the league? We need a win here with a couple of difficult away games coming up.

West Bromwich Albion FC / Callum Marshall Joins Albion on loan

Reporting on twitter that were signing Callum Marshall on loan from West Ham. It's come from someone who is very reliable on West Ham news so looks like it could be happening.

Edit: Bit more about him, scored 16 in 10 apparently in the PL2 and 3 in 4 in EFL trophy. Centre forward who it looks like can play on the left as well.

I don't think we were great but i also don't think it was a complete disaster.  I think it was more individual errors that cost us today, a really poor pass from Yokuslu, poor defending from Kipre and i really think Palmer should have saved it. At the other end, Swift really should have scored. I also understand the negative comments about Reach but i don't think he starts if Fellows is fit.
