They will stay up, but I don't think they will finish as high as some of their fans think.

Can see them finishing around 12th.

Be interesting to see if they don't start very well, will they stick with Smith.
12th would be a very good season for us first season back up and would give us the opportunity to stabilise and build on it.

Not sure what Villa fans you've seen or heard say we're going to finish much higher than that but every club has their lunatics. I believe we could finish anywhere between 12th-17th depending on how well we gel and this could come back to bite me but I don't think we'll go down. Trust me though that the majority of us would be happy to stay up this season and anything else is a bonus. Not saying we're going to be world beaters though but outside of the top 8/9 teams there is very little separating the rest and there are a lot of poor sides.

There has been a lot of "They're doing a Fulham" banded about but our buys seem more sensible and have more thought behind them. We've kept together our loan players and replaced players that left with better players like Trezeguet for Adomah, Luiz for Whelan etc.

Whatever happens, and I'm sure there will be a few heavy defeats along the way, I think we will try to attack and play good football. I'd much rather see that than the likes of Brighton last season who played with 10 defenders and were scared to cross the halfway line.

Your tactics cost you today. Time wasting from the first half, not even trying to get a second goal and receiving a booking for time wasting after 60 minutes of the first leg is embarrassing. Laughable that you all call Grealish a cheat when you've got Gayle playing for you, karma was served there.

We actually tried to play football so the outcome was right. Beautiful justice that you're putting blame on the ref after the Rodriguez handball aswell. Up the Vile

Listening to my Albion mates and reading on here it sounds like your ticket system, both home and away, have been a bit of a shambles. How can your club get it so wrong selling 23,000 home tickets and 2000 away tickets? We sold 40k tickets in a few days, one ticket per person, and our away tickets sold out in 45 minutes to s/t holders with 18+ aways. Couldn't believe when I saw some of your fans having to queue in person for tickets, I thought that went in the 90s  ;D

Our home leg has sold out already. There will be a scramble on Sunday for the few tickets where season ticket holders haven't claimed their seat.

Heard that both teams will get 2000 away tickets.

From the Express and Star:

If #wba finish fourth they will visit #avfc at 12.30pm on Saturday, May 11, then host the return leg on Tuesday, May 14 (8pm). If they finish third, they will travel to either Derby/Boro/Bristol C at 5.15pm on the Saturday, with the home leg on Wednesday, May 15 (8pm). Clear?

WMP will definitely have been consulted with that and said they didn't want Villa v Albion as the late kick off, as Game B is always the later second kick off.

The result was a draw, nothing to do with technicalities.
It was a draw.
Dress it up how you like.
It was still a draw.
Technically you haven't beat us this season.
Technically we have taken 4 points off you.
The play off games should be corkers and may the best team win so long as its us.  ;)
  :-*

Should be two cracking semi finals I agree and two crackling atmospheres reminiscent of the cup game in 2015.
I actually think us playing at home first will suit us with 40k hopefully spurring us on to a first leg lead. I think it would have suited you lot more to get a lead at home first leg and then come to VP and be able to play on the break.

Villa are the only team we can play who we are unbeaten against.
Head to head

Villa 4-2 won 1, drawn 1
Derby 1-4 lost 1, ??
Boro 2-4 lost 2
Bristol City 6-5 won 1, lost 1

Finish 4th and take the easy route  ;)
Technically we all but beat you but for a last minute handball that would have been ruled out 99 times out of 100 but let's not go there again  ;)

We're hoping Boro get the last spot. They haven't scored against us in the last six league meetings, barely registered a shot against us in last season's play offs and we seem to have the sign over them. Two 3-0 wins against them this season although we beat Derby 7-0 on aggregate.

I think Boro could bore their way through against Leeds and would be the easiest potential final opponents IF we got there.

No chance will Leeds lose at Ipswich so it will be us v you in the semis.

Ive heard villas first game will be the 12:30 kick off.
For the last 10+ seasons Match A 3rd v 6th has been the first kick off, apart from when the police made Norwich and Ipswich kick off at 12 on the Sunday. We will be the 5:30 on the Saturday and then the Wednesday night.

I can't see the police intervening with our kick off time if we play you. We played on a Friday night this season and there will only be 2000 away fans at each game so far easier to police than when you had 6k at the cup game in 2015.

Only speed read the club announcement regarding home allocation of tickets. Given the club's reported desire to go greener I'd have thought it'd be easier/better all around for HSTHs to add the play off game to our existing Stile Cards rather than print PDF tickets off at home. Here's hoping Kev's online rumour of the Vile having the whole of the Smeth' is just that, a rumour. Tempted to get vexed in advance just in case....... (get me Jenkins on line one).......
No chance will that happen. There's no way either club or the police would want 6k of you at VP or 5k of us at yours, especially if it's the 5:30 game on the Saturday. You only have to offer 2000 tickets in the play offs, that's what us and Boro gave each other last season. I can see us and you agreeing the same and limiting the amount of away fans at each game.

we haven’t beat you by more than the odd goal in over 40 years, so a hammering seems unlikely especially with a depleted forward line.
I’ll take a draw and move on as usual.
Our season is done and dusted. Your fans and players will be far more up for it than us.

We haven't played well since we played you lot in December. Whilst Grealish doesn't always deliver with goals and assists, we miss him massively and he hasn't played since that game. He draws two players to him and creates space for others and he gets us up the pitch and relieves pressure on our dodgy defence.

Our wide players, Adomah, Green, El Ghazi and Kodjia look good on paper but are all flattering to deceive. Again, El Ghazi hasn't played well since the game against you.

Our forums and Twitter are pretty unanimous in that we're going to lose and quite heavily. I thought a score draw before the Brentford game but watching that performance made me think our players have thrown the towel in already this season. Play like that tomorrow and you'll win by 3 or 4.

0-0 !
What are those strange numbers? We've got Alan Hutton and Neil Taylor in defence, we don't do 0. You'll score at least 3.

Even the most ardent Albion fan will admit that 'goal' papered over the cracks massively for you lot. If Abraham has his shooting boots on, we win that 4-1. Even if he doesn't we win 2-1 with a linesman who can see.

We looked head and shoulders above you lot second half. Our midfield ran the show and our team looks much more balanced.

We will be well ahead of you come May. Smith is a million times better than Moore and you'll regret not getting him in the summer.

I think we'll score at least two against your defence but I also think you'll score at least two against ours. 2-2 or 3-3

Viler in peace

My Mrs is an Albion fan and season ticket holder but she's worked her points out wrong so can't get a ticket. I know you'll probably tell me to sod off being a Viler but if anyone knows of a spare reference or ticket keep her in mind. Score me some husband points  ;D Cheers

no doubt some of them still believe
We don't, trust me. Read our forums and Twitter before today's game and you'll see everyone predicting a hammering. I said 5 or 6 nil myself so I was close! In my opinion we've been gone since those two away defeats to Norwich and Sunderland over Christmas, these weekly defeats now are just the final nails. Just want the R next to our name now and get it over with. The only positive thing about the club at the moment is the away support, Stoke fans said we were the best there this season by a mile last week and our fans were full of gallows humour again today. The players don't deserve the support, worst Villa team I've ever seen.

Any other team in the premiership and a lot of Championship teams would have beaten us today. It was one of the most abject performances I've ever seen from a West Brom side.
I said to my Mrs and her family who are all Albion season ticket holders that you're lucky we're rubbish. If we'd had even a tiny bit more quality we'd have won that today. That's why we're going down, as the song goes.

I thought McClean was poor for you. Yacob and Dawson were your two best players. Your strikers looked as poor as ours, there wasn't a decent one on the pitch at any point.

While I would never want Pulis managing us (I know we're bottom but I couldn't watch his football every week) he knows his limits and his team's limits. If you had of been more open and expansive today we might have won because you may have been easier to break down. That's why you'll never go down with him because when it comes to it you can grind out a 0-0 or a 1-0.

Oh and it was a stonewall penalty but you get some and you don't, on another day that would have been given. That's what happens when you're down there though and you're desperate for decisions to go your way.

That was embarrassing from you lot, playing for/settling for a 0-0 against the worst team in the league and one of the worst sides in our history. When all is said and done though it's still a better point for you than us. You were there for the taking but we still couldn't win which sums up why we're where we are.

We looked alright in the first two thirds of the pitch by our standards. Our trouble is the final third, Gil is on a different wavelength to everyone else and is wasted in our team. Kozak and Gestede are as bad as each other and have no mobility or movement. Our crossing for a Premier League team is laughably bad, we hit the first man nearly every time. Worst culprit is Bacuna who couldn't cross a road. If we could cross a ball I think we'd have won that today but our final ball was poor and for all our possession I never really thought we'd score.

It was a shocking game though, so devoid of quality on both sides. I knew we wouldn't score before the game as you're hard to break down and you've got some old heads at the back. That's what we lack leaders in the team, and a 30 goal a season striker!

Vile supporters seem much more confident of a victory c/f to us lot :(
Not me, or any Villa fan I know. All of my family and my mates think we'll lose and most think it will be 1-0, including me.

Can't decide if it will be Gardner again, Berahino signing off with his last goal for you and having a statue built outside the East Stand for 'scoring the goal that effectively relegated the Vile', or James McClean after getting booed all game.

We have been slightly better the past couple of games, it would have been hard to get any worse but even so. Maybe what happened at Wycombe was a kick up the backside for some of them, who knows. It's obviously not great football, the second half against Leicester was direct and almost hope for the best but needs must. We haven't got the quality to play our way out of trouble, our only hope would be to be direct and 'get stuck in'. The fans have appreciated the effort in the last two games, albeit probably too late now. We realise the majority of our players are lacking in any real quality but all we ask is that they give 100% and show a bit of fight. The lack of quality though is why I still think we're already down, fight and character will only get you so far. Our lack of a good striker/goalscorer will also let us down, there isn't a decent one amongst them.

Ayew has been our best player, especially the past few weeks and is our main threat although I wouldn't class him as an out and out striker.

As for the game I hope we throw everything at it because we've got nothing to lose and a point is no good to us anymore. I think it will be cagey though and I can't see us breaking you down, Gestede/Kozak up front is playing into your hands and perfect for your four centre backs in defence. We haven't got any pace in the team which I think would have troubled you. Sadly I think you'll put another nail in and beat us narrowly.
